What's up in July?

Can you believe were into July already???

The year is slipping by so fast, It's supposed to be summer, but you can't tell here in Scotland - it's a bit wintery today! We've had some awful weather this last few days, which has kept us from many outdoor activities with Xander, so we've resorted to his favourite indoors activity - baking!

I'm also ultra-busy on the crafts front - I hve a couple of cross stitch commissions - one a wedding sampler, the other a birth sampler - to complete over the next month or so. And I'm also beginning a new enterprise to do with crochet. :)

So, what's everyone else up to?

My last day of work today before a weeks holiday in Spain where I will finally get to see some sun, though the change in temperature by about 20degrees is going to be a bit of a killer. I have downloaded about 9 books onto my kindle and relaxation here we come.

Happy Canada Day yesterday (I can't forget my 1/8th Canadian-ness! ;)), and a pre-Happy Independence Day to my fellow American BCF members.

Abby, it's horribly hot and humid here too. I do believe that Mother Nature is bi-polar with all these weather changes/extremes.

Have fun on your holiday, Pickle!

My upcoming week is not too fast-paced, but I'll be busy at work, except for Wed since it's a public holiday. My mom is coming down for a visit this week so I'll see her which will be nice. Fireworks-viewing is TBD at the moment because it's a school night you know and it's a pain waiting for 10:00pm fireworks then fighting the crowds getting home, only to have to wake up at 6am the next day.

I hope everyone has a lovely week ahead of them! :D

It rained nearly all day .. in July! It was alternately rainy and sunny yesterday and yet we didn't get a rainbow .. I feel cheated :D

Good luck with your Race for Life Laura .. hope the weather improves enormously .. your Nan would be so proud of you :friends3:

Giving my first training session tomorrow. Did a text run with my two colleagues today and kept blanking, even though I know them well and it was all really casual. Am now terrified for tomorrow. Wish me luck.

It's been raining non-stop here - the monsoons have arrived in all its glory!

My neighbour went fishing this morning and gifted us with a crab!

Once its scary pincers were tied - my little one (Alya) - started playing with it. She's taken a liking to it - and it feels wrong to eat it now.

Good luck, Noll!

After staying up late to finish my book on Sunday night, had an early night to catch up on my sleep (after a day of almost constant yawning all day yesterday ), and feeling much brighter today. Shame the weather isn't feeling the same ... :intherain:

The weather sounds as dreary everywhere else as it is here! Lots of sniffles going round here at work, and we think it's probably the weather.

Bree, I probably shouldn't have laughed but I did! I'd feel horrible eating a crab (or any animal) if I played with it! I remember one time seeing a woman on tv talking about how she bought her turkey alive at christmas and it was a sort of pet for a few weeks until it became dinner, and another person on the show couldn't understand how she could bear to kill it after that! Her children would treat it as a pet, and then would just have to accept its fate was to be killed and eaten . She said she was teaching her children about life with it! Bit bizzare for me, but to each their own!

Had my first training session today, and I stressed myself out completely over it. Slept about 90 mins last night, and during that time I had nightmares about it. Couldn't eat today, so by the time half two rolled around I was running on coffee and adrenaline. Right up to going in to do it, I was struggling to remember what I had to say (when practising with my mentor), and it was quite upsetting. But I went in, I just went for it, and amazingly, it went completely smoothly. I blanked once, but didn't let it overcome me, and my mentor said the audience wouldn't even have noticed, it was just like taking a breath. I remembered everything, nobody was confused, all in all it was great. Soon as I got out, the tiredness and hunger hit me, and I've been headachey and weak all evening. Just stuffed myself with bangers and mash now to make up for the missed brekkie and dinner!

It's hard to explain how big of a deal it is to me to have gone in there and given the presentation to a room of people - I'm chronically insecure about public speaking (I feel sick, stutter, blank, etc), but it's something I've always wanted to overcome, and today I took the first real step in my life towards overcoming it. So I still feel queasy and overwhelmed, but I'm really proud of myself.

Anyway enough nattering from me.

Well done Noll, I couldn't have done that.

Hubby finally made it home about 7pm last night, turns out I am going to need a new battery for my car. It fired up ok this morning thank goodness. Hannah was called into work this morning and ended up not finishing till half five as she had to escort a patient to hospital and wait with him until they knew whether he was being admitted or not. Turns out he has pnuemonia so he was admitted, I then had to go and pick her up.

In a way I'm glad it has been a busy day, it has stopped me dwelling and being too upset, it is one year since we lost our dog Jake, we still miss him loads.

I haven't popped in here in months. Been getting used to my new job, and life alone in a small town. I have loads of free time now, I will begin reading once more and hopefully write more as well! Both of that equal more time on this forum :)

I'm also going to save up to buy a Kindle :) I can't keep buying books until I'm settled and I have enough money for a new bookshelf :D or the patience to set up a library in my house.

Busy month here, the last few weeks of school term are the busiest and with three kids at three different school I feel I am constantly at one event or another! My youngest had his induction at junior school yesterday which went very well, the teacher is newly qualified and seems very nice and enthusiastic which hopefully mean a good Year 3 for him. My daughter has her second induction day for secondary today, she went in yesterday with some trepidation yesterday as they were to find out what tutor group they were to be put in, and with 11 of them she was worried she wouldn't be with any of her friends, fortunately she is with 6 of her very good friends so she came out very happy which of course makes me happy too as it will make the transition in September so much easier!!
