Becks Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I am a new member who has recently come up against a brick wall about what I should be turning my attention to next. I enjoy a wide range of books by different authors but would really like to find something or somebody new to read. I enjoy crime and have read books by authors such as Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen and Jeffrey Deaver. I also like the majority of the classics (Austen etc.) I've just finished the Hunger Games which I thought were fantastic. I also enjoy the likes of Nicholas Evans (The Horse Whisperer is probably one of my favourite books!) I wouldn't be a big fan of "girly" romantic books. I have been told to give science fiction a try but wouldn't really know which authors to start with. So does anybody have any suggestions? Cheers in advance! Quote
Chrissy Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 For some reason, when I read your post (Welcome to the forum by the way!), I immediately and inexplicably thought of Margaret Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale'. It isn't science fiction but is an engrossing and thought provoking read. My second thought which is closer to what you actually asked for is 'Neuromancer' by William Gibson. It reads at times like a Raymond Chandler novel, but contains such believable concepts in it's well crafted plot you will be carried along nicely through the story. Quote
Kreader Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I recently read Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch, it'd be more in the fantasy range, a sort of cross over maybe you'd like that? Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is good too and that's Sci-fi. Quote
