How to use a reading guide?

Hi all,

 

I am currently reading Nausea but I find it very difficult to follow. Would you recommend reading the book itself and the reading guide at the same time to enhance the reading experience? Or you think it is better to finish the book first then the reading guide? Please share your own experience. Thanks!
