  1. I'm not a big Kindle fan but I can see how people are drawn to it. My problem is the cost. The Kindle costs money and the books you download cost more than I spend on paper books. I love books but I hate paying over $8 for them and tend to find some really good sales and so I very rarely pay the retail price. So I'd reconsider a Kindle if downloading books cost less than paper (for me that is because I know it is cheaper to download vs the retail price).

  2. Hi! Nice to meet you! I am a huge reader too and I have the same bad habit of buying too many books and then stressing over when I have the time to read 'em. :readingtwo: Oh the life of a book lover! Glad you found us and I am looking forward to your posts!

  3. A slight aside, I just saw the trailer for the film version of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, looks good, although I'm not sure how good an adaptation it will be.

Back on topic, it's been the best part of three decades since I had these books read to me and I can't remember enough of them to pick a favourite. I do remember enjoying The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when I was a kid though.

I liked the book but from the trailer the movie looks a bit different so I'm not sure if it'll be as good although I'm still going to see it. Dawn Treader is probably my 3rd favorite behind The Magician's Nephew.

  4. Thanks Charm :)

A couple of those book spines look familiar, but I can't remember what they are now. It's been a age since I last read a Star Trek novel, but I still have a huge pile of them somewhere!

Yeah I have quite a few. The ones in this picture are the hardbacks I have and I also have another bookshelf full of paperback. Most of them are from the original series. Which show do you have in books?

  5. I'm a hardback reader because I like to keep my books for a long long time and paperback books seem to get creased and damaged more easily. Plus for me it's less expensive because I only buy books on clearance or from bookcloseouts.com (they have wonderful dollar sales). As for the covers, I tend to keep them on when I read and would still keep them even if they were damaged unless it was ripped.

  6. 1. Age (<18, 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55+)

    2. Gender - Female

    3. What do you read on a daily basis? (blogs, newspapers, books, etc.)

    Blogs and books

    4. How often do you read for fun in a week?

    Every night :)

    5. What time of day do you like to read?

I read for an hour (or two) before I go to bed.

    6. Where do you read?

    In bed.

    7. How many books have you read in the last 6 months?

I have no idea but my rough guess would be between 15 to 20.

    8. What type/genre do you enjoy reading most?

    Fiction and history.

    9. Why do you read? (entertainment, relaxation, learning, etc.)

I read for the fun of the story so I guess entertainment, but I also like to read to learn.

    10. What barriers prevent you from reading more?

Time. Sometimes life just takes me away.

    11. Do you think reading for fun is important?

Yes. I think using your imagination is a great way to keep your brain going strong plus reading for fun can lead to new experiences by introducing new things to you as well as opening your mind to new ideas.

    12. Do you fold page corners or use a bookmark?

Never, that would wrinkle the paper. I use a bookmark (normally the receipt for the book I am reading).

    13. Do you prefer to read to music or in silence?

I can do either but mostly in silence.

    14. Do you discuss books with your friends?

Not very often, that is why I joined this forum :D. It seems I am the only reader among my family and friends.

    15. Do you borrow books from the library?

No but I buy them there sometimes.

    16. Do you borrow/loan books from/to friends?

Only to very reliable people but it's very rare as I don't know many people who read.

  7. Thanks everyone for your warm welcomes! :friends3:

@Kylie - I love to read fiction, historical fiction, biographies, mysteries, mythologies, ancient history, science fiction but only for Star Trek, and I also enjoy books written for children.

  8. :D Hi Everyone! This is my first post and I am excited to find this forum. I am an avid reader and love books! One of my dreams is to own enough books to have a library of my own in my home. I look forward to getting to know you all and learning about some great books to read. :readingtwo:
