  1. Sorry for joining this conversation so late in the day, but I didn't have access to the final season when it aired on television and as a result had to wait for the box set to be released. I watched it over the course of 4 days last week ending with the finale on the Thursday evening. I've re-watched the last 30 minutes of The End a few times since then, and even now just thinking about the ending makes my eyes fill with tears.

I personally found the ending to be perfect. I was and still am a little upset about a couple of little factors mainly...

... the fact that Jack died on the island and didn't live happily ever after with his soul mate Kate off-island...

... but at the same time I think the writers did a fantastic job wrapping things up and I think any other ending just wouldn't have been the same. I have to say that I think Lost has become my all-time favourite show and as a result and because I can't stop thinkning about the ending I've decided to do a complete re-watch. One episode per day until I've seen them all. Anyone care to join me?

  2. I was actually looking at the new Shopaholic book in my local Sainsbury's store this afternoon and I did deliberate over getting it. However, after a little bit of deliberation I walked away from it! I want to re-read the others first anyway so I may as well wait for the paperback version as I can't see me getting around to the rest of the series anytime soon!

  3. I really mean to re-read this at some point, too!

I really need to get around to re-reading this again too. It's been many years since I read it; back when I was teenager in fact and I loved it then, so I'd love to re-read it to see if I enjoy it even more now that I'm older and more mature!

  4. Julia, I can completely understand where you are coming from and even have to agree with you in some respects. I love Sophie Kinsella's style of writing and will read anything she writes under that name because of it, however, I do have to admit that I wish she'd left the Shopaholic Series alone after the first three books as I do think they went downhill a little after that. I don't think they're terrible by any means of the word but I do think that they kind of lost their edge. I much prefer her standalone books!

  5. Wow, I didn't know that about the lack of leave entitlement in the US. That sucks!

I currently get 27 days paid annual leave (although this will rise to a maximum of 33) plus 8 bank/public holidays. I'm also extremely lucky in that I get sick pay too and if I remember correctly even on long-term sick we still get full pay for the first 6 months (not that I've ever had to use it mind). I guess I'm quite lucky in that respect.

  6. I don't think I've ever read a book that's actually had pages missing before. I've read the odd library book that has had a few pages loose before but none that have actually been missing. I always tend to flick through library books and those that I buy in charity shops before borrowing/buying them to make sure that there aren't any pages missing.

I've noticed minor mistakes in a few books over the years where one of the characters name has changed at some point, however it usually reverts back to the correct name fairly quickly.

  7. I don't suppose you happen to have a list of the movies handy?

I've found a couple of lists on the net - here (which seems to be more of a general reference list including Television shows, people etc) and here.

Edited to add - I've also found this list which seems quite good!

  8. I was going to start watching this show from the very beginning again, but as my Season 7 DVD box set arrived on Friday I decided to watch this first as I haven't seen it in full before. I've so far watched the first two episodes and as expected it's fantastic. I do really want to move to Stars Hollow though!

By the way I know there is a Rory Gilmore Book Challenge on here, but has anyone thought about doing a Gilmore Girls Film Club?

  9. I've always been a big reader ever since I was a small child, but I can't remember anyone ever encouraging me to read as such... or at least not to the extent that I do. However, saying that they didn't try and stop me. Neither of my parents are big readers and my dad in particular has never really understood my love of reading at all. He just doesn't 'get it'. He always moans when yet another parcel arrives from Amazon and as my bedroom is directly above the living room his favourite thing to say is 'the ceilings going to collapse with the weight of all those bloody books'.

  10. I'm struggling to get hold of a reasonably priced copy of series 6, and series 7 isn't out on DVD until next week, but I'm still hoping I'll be able to pick them both up not too expensively soon. I've run out of new episodes to watch at the moment, so I'm concentrating on the books on the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge instead for now.

Season 6 is available on both Amazon (dispatched within 10 to 11 days) and Play.com (dispatched within 24 hours) for £9.99 at the moment. Season 7 is under £20 at the moment too.
