  1. Anyone still watching other than me?

    I'm still watching.

I really liked this week's episode. I think it may be the best so far; it felt a lot more like Doctor Who this week than it has been. All the other episodes have seemed a bit rushed.

  2. One of them would be reading magazines like Heat and Closer. I try to stay away from them, but they circulate round our Lolfa (the school's sixth-form lounge) and I can't resist!

Another would be pancakes. We don't have them often, but when we do... yum!

Ooh, and Nigella Lawson's cookery shows. I think she's brilliant; if her show is on, I'll watch it.

  3. Several people have mentioned the physical feel/state of a book. Totally agree - I've got to be comfortable reading the book. Too many paperbacks especially nowadays are printed with an atrociously small print size and grotty print/paper quality. I put those straight back down, however tempting the content - it's got to be comfortable and pleasurable to read. I'm quite fussy with my choice of classics especially as there's usually a choice. (I've recently enjoyed reading the Random House imprint, Vintage Classics, for those very reasons). Oddly, I have some old Everyman editions which, whilst with a very small print size, are very readable. I think it's the print quality - too many paperbacks are smudgy.

I'm with you on this one! I like the Vintage Classics ones too - aside from being the easiest to read, they always have great covers!

An example would be The Picture of Dorian Gray. I tried to read it before (Worsdworth Classics edition) and it did nothing but get on my nerves. I got a different edition (Penguin Classics - the ones with the black band) and I love it! It's funny how much the print size can impact how enjoyable a book is.

  4. Then they're not written properly :D there's no such thing as boring character types, just writers who don't know how to manage them.

    Fair point. ;)

Do you know of any books where werewolves or vampires have been written well? I'm finding it difficult to find anything good - the market seems to be overrun by Twilight (ew) and other books that are just as rubbish. :D

  5. Oh, and I hated Titanic too. I mean, you start the film knowing it's going to sink - LOL!

LOL! That made me laugh so much. :D

I didn't like Titanic. It's not my kind of film at all.

And I must agree with you on Percy Jackson, Kell - it looked good on the trailers, but I hadn't read the books (a friend had) and it was the most predictable film I've ever seen! It was quite entertaining, though, so I didn't mind. I thought Hades and Persephone were the best part of it.

  6. Hi guys! I wanna join.

I've just read through all ten pages of this thread, and it's all very helpful stuff! While I may only be 17, I can't actually remember a time when I was thin/of a healthy weight. I've always been overweight for my age, and now it's just completely out of control and I want to do something about it.

Luckily for me, my mother has recently bough a treadmill and rowing machine to go alongside the cross-trainer my brother's girlfriend kindly gave to us. My main problem is with finding the time to exercise (schoolwork... ugh); and I need to stop snacking! My school timetable means that I don't get to have lunch on most days, so when I get home I'm usually starving so I head straight for the fridge. :tong:

Not any more, though! I intend to formulate a plan tomorrow to be put into effect immediately. :D

This thread is so helpful, though; you can't know how thankful I am for it! ^.^

  7. Oooh, Eddie Izzard! Sexy dressed as a man AND dressed as a woman with full makeup (in fact, he looks rather pretty that way!).

    I agree!

I think Derren Brown is strangely attractive. Oh, and Matt Smith, the new Doctor Who. :D

  8. I read painstakingly slowly; generally I don't mind because I can appreciate the story more, and it means that I don't miss out on so many details. If it's a 'popcorn book', it takes a few days to get through (Skulduggery Pleasant only took about 6 hours, though). Most books take me at least a week, mostly due to the fact that school work takes up almost all of my spare time. I'll be so glad when the summer holidays are here.

  9. I've really gone off Jim Butcher, especially the Dresden Files series. The first one was good, but then he went into werewolves. I enjoyed the characters, so I stuck with the books, and I really enjoyed the third one, but then he went on to vampires! The vampires began featuring far too heavily for my liking, and I just went off the series.

I hate vampires and werewolves. They're bland, IMO. :D

  10. I find it annoying that they keep changing the time, too.

And I got it wrong in my earlier post. It was right when I started writing it, but then I got distracted halfway through. Dr Who is on at 18:25 this week. :D

They should just keep it to being on at 7 o' clock like it was before. It was so much easier to follow when it was always on at the same time.

  11. The second part of last week's episode is on in 25 minutes! Yay! :D

I liked last week's. The weeping angels always make me jump, and I'm not usually jumpy when it comes to TV.

The Dalek episode was a bit silly, though. The new Daleks don't look very menacing at all; in fact, I think I agree with my father that they look like a cross between wheely bins and tellytubbies.

I hope this week's will be good!
