I'm glad you're enjoying it! It is pretty epic, what with the front line action too. It's an amazing story and like you say his writing style is excellent. I've also read The Girl at the Lion D'or and Charlotte Gray by Faulks, both of which I loved too (but not quite as much as Birdsong!). Have you read any others of his?

Hey chesil! How're you? I've been sat at my desk engrossed in Rebecca all afternoon. I couldn't put it down - then had no choice BUT to when I reached the end of chapter 19 I had conjured up all sorts of theories as to how the story might go, but like you I never expected that! Anyway, I just had to share my surprise with someone Thanks for unintentionally making me go and buy the book

I've not seen the video in ages and then the other day I suddenly had the thought: 'Hold on, why did my friends and I used to go around referring to each other as 'my hard-rocking amigo'?!
I just knew it HAD to be the D (who else?!) and then remembered that bit in the video
I take comfort in the fact that you're that little bit sadder than me though
