  1. Hi All, We have a large bookshelf at the top of the stairs, and two large cupboards giving up space to store more books, along with about twenty cookery books in the kitchen, and other books here there and everywhere. We have a problem in our house, all three of us are readers, when it comes to getting out a bag to fill with books to go to charity its quite comical, one person puts their book in it another takes it out to go on to their 'to read' pile!

I did think about buying a Kindle but I am really old fashioned and love holding books, turning the pages etc, plus I have never had the batteries run out on a paperback!

    Happy reading and storing all!!

  2. I have kept everybook that James Patteson has wrote, he is one writter that I don't mind reading over and over again

My daughter is getting hooked too, I have to keep putting books back on the book shelf!

She is reading the Alex Cross ones in no particular order, which is how I started - but I am re reading some to start at the very beginning. Has anyone watched the films made from the book, I always find them a let down but I see there will be a new film soon.....what do we think of that I wonder?

  3. I love James Patterson - not that I have met the man lol. I have dipped in and out of his books for the last few years in no particular order, so this year I have decided to read his books in some sort of order so that the character storylines are not lost.

I loved When the Wind Blows and the sequel The Lake House.

At the moment I am working my way through the Alex Cross books – some being re-read to put the story in order. I have finished Along came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, now reading Jack and Jill.

I have been very fortunate with the thanks e-bay to get most of the Alex Cross books in one lot, so I am moving along the bookshelf and my husband keeps commenting that I have another man as James seems to be everywhere with me.

By the rate of his books being published I don’t think I will be running out of reading matter any time soon!

And life after James? Probably Dean Koontz, I have read a few of his, I have recently read the first of his Frankenstein series….worth a look – monster does crime fighting!!

  4. mmmmmmm Paddy and Chas, wow if they got married then he would be Aaron's step dad, not sure I would like to matchmake for Nathen, I agree no one deserves him! Perhaps he mother may be taking him for a walk in the woods too:day:.

  5. Aw, poor bloke. But I suppose that character doesn't really do anything or have any major storylines anymore. He makes me laugh though!

Shadders has an accident next week, don't know if its his Birthday tho!!!

Who shall we matchmake Paddy with.......Pearl? Any ideas??????

  6. :D:D:) The big question would Chas notice? considering she is in the middle of pursuing her 'most embarrassing mother of the year' award :D

Would you dare!!! its like she has been abducted by aliens, where has all the maternal stuff come from.

    Poor lad!:D

  7. :D properly, the shock might just do the job :) or he might actually buy someone a drink :D

oh my, can you imagine shadders getting a round in?

    Shock !!!

    :D

oh my my, shadders getting a round in...........whilst in the BATH!!!!!

    :D

  8. Hey geordie 3.gif I read somewhere that he was leaving but was still making appearances but that may have all changed to the great bar in the sky. :D

annnnnnnnnnndddddddd, its all going to happen on his Birthday......don't know when that is though....do you think its when he has a bath!

  9. Hi Everyone ;)

Both my parents read a lot and my Grandma used to always buy me books. I still have some of my favourites upstairs. I also don't remember my parents reading to me, but saying that I don't remember learning to read either. I used to read to my Daughter when she was young, no matter how tired I was or what needed to be done we always had book time, now she gets through more books than I do and naggs me with an ever growing collection of 'must' reads, I have told her she should come on here and chat about books. My house always looks 'cluttered' with books, the door seems to bring more in than we can store, but its great, I don't remember who encouraged me to read, but I'm really pleased they did!

  10. Do you ever juggle :readingtwo:books:readingtwo:, I am reading two at the moment, totally different stories, Rebecca, Daphne Du Maurier and Mary Mary, James Patterson. Its someting I have never done before I am usually loyal to one writer at a time.

I am managing ok with these as the stories are so different they don't get mixed up, I'm not sure how i managed to get into this situation, am I normal???

    Do you juggle?

    ;)

  11. Nathan is about to be entered in the next print of the oxford dictionary as an expletive..........I can't stand him, I hope he is nice in 'real' life lol, not taking his alter ego as an example!

  12. Hi Von, i enjoyed the Memory Keepers Daughter as well & have Birdsong on my bookshelves waiting to be read.

I am determined this year to read lots of books from authors new to me, any suggestions of must reads?

  13. Hiya Von and welcome back! :friends0: Glad to hear you're enjoying Birdsong, I have that one on my TBR. Is it a part of a trilogy, or am I completely mistaken?

Being the hugest dog enthusiast there is, I'm suggesting that when you have the time, you could post pics of your greyhounds on the Pets -thread  I'm sure people would appreciate cat and fish pics as well

I am going to be looking for more books from the same author, I got quite excited today when i noticed that my husband has another book by Sabastian Faulks A week in December, its in his to read pile, one of his christmas presents I think, might have liberate it from the pile!! I did not realise Birdsong was part of a trilogy, I will have to look into that and maybe read the others, he is all new to me so I will have quite a few to catch up on!

I will pop along to the pets-thread and post some pics of my collection, watch out for them later on!!!

  14. I agree Danny Miller, has worked wonders in the role of Aaron Livesey, I love the transition and the story line which was to my unexpected. More twists and turns to follow......have you heard about Pauline Quirk being cast.

Charlie? It will all end in tears you mark my words!

  15. Hi Everyone, I thought I would pop a post on here to say hello as I have not been on for about 6 months you may have forgotten me lol.

Von here, I live in Newcastle with my Husband, Daughter, two adopted Greyhounds, six cats and assorted tropical fish.

I am reading Birdsong at the moment by Sebastian Faulks, I picked it up at a local jumble sale and have not been able to put it down, surprised me totally and a very poignant novel. I usually read crime, thrillers but I have been dabbling with other genres last book read was the Memory Keepers Daughter, too many books in the house on the too read pile and not enough hours in the day lol!

Catch up with you all soon.

    hugs

    Von
