  1. Well, I'm not in business school for nothing, I can spot a profitable market miles away! *cracks up*

I can definitely see you being a business woman, haha. You seem like you'd be a tough negotiator.

    Migrane. 'Nuff said. *smiles*

    Ouch D:

  2. The Magic Tree House books, for sure! I remember when the 3rd graders at my school made a fake tree house for the school library and the librarian wouldn't let me sit in it because I was a 4th grader. My absolute favorite was the Little House series, though. Some other old favorites of mine are A Series of Unfortunate Events and *laughs* Captain Underpants. I still have my huge collection of American Girl Doll books, too. I miss the old days :')

  3. Don't get me started on the time he and some fellow hockey players decided to fix the roof... *mischievous grin* I almost sold tickets.

I certainly would've bought one, haha.

I do. I love my life. Of course, I'm heavily medicated, so...

Ah, so that's why... (I kid, I kid) We certainly are a heavily medicated generation. But it's good to enjoy life. You've only got one of 'em, after all.

    Oooh hockey players, nice!!

I know what you mean about mosquitoes, HJordan. They too are my least fave part, and we have a ton of them in the upper midwest lake country here. There's even a joke that the mosquito is our state bird, and that's not far off let me tell you!

I would move to NE in a heartbeat though. Last time I was out there we stayed in a lovely little town called Franconia, NH and had the best breakfast in the town next door, Sugar Hill. We even went to the home of Robert Frost and had a fun little tour. He lived there just a short time, but it was so neat to be standing in the same place he once was.

Well, thanks for the info. I now know to stay far away from the upper midwest, haha  I love NH! My parents used to take me to Maine every summer, and we would spend a lot of our time in NH. It was great going into town during July 4th to see the fireworks. And I loved going to the ocean there. We never saw Robert Frost's home, though. You'd think we would've since my mom is a book lover, too. Now I feel like asking the 'rents if we can go back up there one last time, haha.

  4. Oh, exactly! I mean... "yay! A tree! And another one! yippee!" not my thing.

And yes, I'm a big fan of BF chopping wood topless. Last year I made a show out of it; I took the lawn chair over, had some refreshments at hand... I was quite enjoying myself! *cracks up*

Let's not forget the mosquitoes! Yay! ;) Seriously my least favorite part of nature.

Haha, you're a lucky woman. The manliest show I get is the display of scrawny, hairless, man-boys in gym class. Well, I also get the pleasure of seeing my Dad sunbathe every summer *shudders*

Oh, it's quite alright. I've been lucky enough to be able to travel a lot, in addition to living in several cities. It's a good fantasy to have, for sure!

Ah, traveling; another thing I'd like to do. You certainly are living my dream, ii :)

  5. Oh, I'm a city girl, through and through. BF manages to drag me (and I'm being fairly literal!) to his summer place once a summer, but that's about it. And that place is within an easy distance of a town, has electricity and running water and cell phone coverage, and most of all, BF likes to chop wood topless. But that annual weekend is about the extent of nature experiences I'm interested in.

What I meant, deep down, with my statement above, was that the individual feel of Boston is wonderful. Every city has their own feel, their own mood, and I love finding them out. There's cities I adore (like Boston, NY and Chicago in the States), cities I like to visit (like Vegas) and cities I don't feel comfortable in (like Miami). Just because of the atmosphere, their individual world of sounds, smells and moods.

Haha, well that sure is manly of him. The most nature I've ever seen is when I went hiking in Maine. Kind of fun at first, but really boring after a while. I'm not an outdoorsy person.

Oh, I see what you mean. I grew up in the suburbs and the only two cities I've ever been to are Boston and New York. I guess I haven't quite experienced city life like you have. Sorry I didn't cath your true meaning. Cities are more like a fantasy to me than anyhting else. It's my dream to live in a big city some day.

  6. I'm thinking of introducing this novel next year as a reader to my 15/16 year old students. I haven't read it yet. Any ideas whether it would go down well?

I read it freshman year for my English class. I really enjoyed it. I can't remember why my teacher had us read it, though :irked:

  7. And so my list of recommendations begins...

I love war stories, especially ones about WWII. I have this morbid fascination with the Holocaust. It started when a friend of mine let me borrow Night by Elie Wiesel. I read it when I was taking a class on World History, so the two of them combined just sparked my love for World Wars.

  8. I'm in the US too, HJordan, but a couple thousand miles west of you, lol. I love New England though, and hopefully will relocate there one day. I can't get enough of the history either! One line of my family tree came to NE very early on (the 1600's) and I love learning about their history and how they came to move west.

Mine too! The Scottish side of my family came here around that time. I've always loved American history, especially the late 18th century and 19th century. It's almost like a soap opera. Thomas Jefferson's my man. I'm also a very very distant cousin of Abraham Lincoln, which is pretty cool :welcomebcf: I love visiting all the historical sights too, so I don't blame you. Because of this, my favorite city is Boston. I just love the history there.

  9. :welcomebcf: Wow, thanks for all the welcomes :D And I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to my taste in books. As for that huge list of recommendations, I'm up for the challenge. Good thing I'm taking a trip to Borders during April vacation. Borders is such a magical place. Thanks again, guys!
  10. Recently I have found out something horrible; I don't fit in on the Internet. I was contemplating becoming a hermit when I decided to try something new. A forum with serious discussion! Yay! It might take some time for me to assimilate, though. Got to cut down on those sarcastic remarks and cynical outlook. The Internet sure can harden the heart. *Laughs* Anyway, I'm still just a High School student (I'm not sure there are many here. I feel immature, haha.) so my bookcase is basically filled with Twilight and Harry Potter (Don't worry, I've grown out of Twilight.) I'm hoping to get a lot of good book recommendations here so that I can move on to some other books. Anyway, I'll probably lurk a lot at first and try to get accustomed to my new surroundings. I'm a bit timid when it comes to forums :smile2: Well, there's my cheesy commercial like introduction. Um... :irked:
