  1. I've just bought 100 Classic Books for my Nintendo DS, so I've got 100 there to be read straight away :)

Other than that I have :-

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill

Three Men in a Boat by J.K. Jerome

    The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro (for next months reading circle choice).

Is the book thing on the DS any good?

  2. I don't know if there is already a cricket thread, I couldn't see one, and as we have a football one and a tennis one, I felt it was only right to have a cricket one.

So, am I the only cricket fan on here?

    Hey,

I've just joined the site and like it lots so far! I searched in sport for a cricket thread because I love it!

I'm a big Durham and England fan and my son has just been selected for the 2009 Durham Under 12's team :)

  3. I agree with lots of what's been said in this thread. I have worked with children with Autism and Aspergers for several years so, obviously, I was interested to read this book.

I agree that Mark Haddon isn't necessarily the greatest writer in the world but, in my opinion, he managed to create a pretty accurate insight into the world through the eyes of someone with this syndrome..

As far as it being an adult book, I think that it kind of bridges the gap between what is a childrens book and what is an adults.

I got my son to read it when he was 10 and he didn't really enjoy it that much. Now he is 12 and has just read it again and he got a lot more from it. He was more ready to take on board what was going on and embraced the difference in thought processes that was being highlighted.

It isn't a literary masterpiece but what it has done is bring some of the issues around Autism/Aspergers to the fore and that can only be a positive thing, right? That's one of the roles that literature plays in our lives and I applaud Mark Haddon for it.

  4. Is anybody on here a Slimming World member?

I'm thinking of joining this week but feel quite unsure and intimidated by it all as I have never done anything like it before.

Or does anyone have any better suggestions? :)

    Hey

I've been in a Slimming World group for a few months now. I find it really supportive and pretty easy to follow. They've just introduced a new version of the diet for the new year which is even easier to follow. No need to worry about red and green days so much if you don't want to. I'd recommend it..

    I've lost a 18lbs so far...so I guess I'm proof that it works :)

Good luck, if you decide to go for it :woohoo:

  5. Ohhh I simply adore the idea of this! I've never read a Charles Dickens book (*shame* :)) but I planned to this year - I want to read A Christmas Carol, The Old Curiosity Shop and David Copperfield, as all three have caught my eye repeatedly over the years.

I think I'll get this book first, read it and THEN start reading Dickens =D

I'm going to give this a go too. Looks interesting! Thank you

  6. I love Dickens books. My Dad read lots of them to me when I was a really little girl..they were my bed time stories!

My favourite has to be Great Expectations. Without a doubt. I've read it lots of times!

I think I might re-visit some more of his books again this year...they take me back to some good memories.

  7. I just wanted to start a thread about the books of Beverly Barton.

I tend to pick up a lot of books in charity shops/car boot sales etc.. and a while ago I came across 'Close Enough To Kill'. I thoroughly recommend it. It got me hooked and was hard to put down! It wasn't the most amazing book I've ever read but it was a real page turner and I read it in only 2 sittings.

I'm currently reading another of her books 'The Murder Game'. Was just wondering if anyone else here has read her books and what they think of them? :)

  8. This is the first time I've posted on this site. Had to start by saying that I too love Karin Slaughter's writing. I enjoy how her characters draw you into their own stories, without detracting from the great plot lines. I do have to say, though,I was slightly 'upset' and shocked at how Skin Privilege ended. I won't give anything away but I hope some other of her avid readers agree with me??

I'm looking forward to reading her latest addition to the Atlanta series 'Fractured'..when I get the chance!
