  1. Thanks!!

I'm not opposed to try it out a bit more "lighter," at all.. just a bit nervous, t'is all :) I am sure I will be just fine.. I was worried about all of the other travels before, and I got through those unscathed ;) Thanks for your encouragement!

Not long now until your mom is there then.. Let me know before her visit, and I'll keep an eye out for pics and all that! :)

  2. Hey Frankie! How did you like the Wives book by Louisa May Alcott? I've read Little Women and it's one of my faves.. I only recently learned about the sequels!

  3. Haha! Legoland! The things you can do to keep kids happy.. They are going to have a blast there. Everyone wins. :) Nice job!

I hope his visit goes absolutely wonderful.. That is going to be such a nice break for you-- time off, kids at Legoland.. couldn't be better. :)

  4. How are you doing with The Book Thief now? Any improvement?? :)

  5. Haha.. so funny that you can't stand Winona Ryder.. Cracks me up :) Things like that really can influence whether or not we pick up a book though, you're so right! Glad you liked it.. I will definitely keep it on my TBR list after your comments!

Isn't there another sequel as well?- Jo's Boys or something? Do you think you'll read that one also?

  6. Thanks, Inver! I just google really random things.. like for this one, I think I googled "funky tree" or something like that -- I tried a couple of things first and this is what I finally found. :) Yours is so cute, too! Is that Matilda from the children's books? I cannot place who she is exactly, but I KNOW I've seen her cute little character self somewhere before! :)

  7. Ooh a new job app.. Good luck! When will you know something?

  8. Just realized it's your Profile Pic and not your avatar.. just to clear up any confusion :)

  9. What is he afraid will happen to you?

  10. Isn't it hard to tell what we want to do when we grow up? ;) It's such a tough decision. At least you have until August, at the very least! I did HR / Recruiting for the last 5 years, right after I grad'd from undergrad, so if you ever decide to look into that and there's any questions I can answer or anything, just let me know! I'm sure my level after undergrad would be a lot diff than your level after grad, but I'm happy to help if you decide on that or have any questions while you're deciding. If I don't know the answer, I'll be honest and tell you that. :)

  11. Ah ha! Didn't know that about it being about the childrens' lives.. I'm still learning about the sequels and things . :) Thanks for the info.. Hopefully I'll get my hands on The Good Wives soon!

  12. Thanks also for the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary reference.. I will DEFINITELY look this up, as my husband has been mentioning lately that he'd like to see a wildlife sanctuary while we're there. It's good to have a recommendation of one someone actually liked. :)

  13. Hi Katie! :)

Yes, I've read Slumdog.. I really liked the book actually. And the movie, as they were different enough to even avoid comparison for me. I don't know how to be all fancy and send you the direct link to my review of the book, but if you go up to the Search function at the top of BCF, and type in Beth's Bookshelf.. there's a list of all the books with their reviews. Q&A should be easy to find on there, if you want to read my full review. :)

What are you enjoying about it, and what are you disliking so far?

  14. Hi Mac!

Sorry for my delayed response.. This has been a really busy week since my mom arrived this past Thursday! She's in Hong Kong (yep you were right :) ) for a few weeks, so we've been out and about just about every day making sure she sees some of HK.

Other than that, things are pretty normal here.. It's actually been raining here the last few days, too! I hope it's cleared up by now in your area. If not, that's a long time of rain! ;)

I hope you have a great day... Thanks for your message and saying hello! I'm so behind.. just wanted to come stop by quickly before our day starts. :) Let me know if anything exciting has happened in the last few days for you!

  15. I can agree w/you that each chapter is a little story unto itself.. and the movie is laid out in much the same way, if you haven't seen the movie yet. I do sort of wish there'd been a way to weave his life episodes more cleverly into the gameshow questions.. a little less "Question Number 9" and a little more "flash back flash forwards" maybe? I dunno.. I'm babbling. :)

Glad you're at least enjoying some of the aspects of the book though! :)

  16. It was a good time in my life for Swarup's book to make it big... life is good sometimes ;)

  17. Aww.. that can't be true! I'm sure your life is PLENTY busy, what w/that cute one in the photograph and all... ;)

I WILL tell you a secret.. I LOVE routine. Love it. I actually sometimes miss trotting off to work at the exact same time every morning, laying out my shoes with my outfit the night before, coming home and watching the exact same shows on TV.

This traveling around and moving so much has forced me to be a lot more flexible and it's taught me a lot.. but every once in a while, I really do miss the routine things!

  18. Hi Paula! :) How are ya??

We are doing just fine over here.. all settled into our new home here in Manhattan, and now I'm working on the job search!

What's going on over there? Anything exciting?

  19. Hi there!

I had some time before work so went ahead and started the thread for ATSS .. You can reply whenever you want so you can get your hands on it first, and hopefully the ring will follow from there :) I did specify that it was for the US book ring in the thread title, to avoid confusion.

If you want to post your Year of Wonders book in a thread as well, I thought it'd be less confusing than coming from me.. That way it's clear that it's your book and it will eventually make its way back to its rightful owner. :)

Let me know if you have any questions, or if you need me to fix anything in my first thread.. Going to be a bit trial and error for me, I'm sure. :) But exciting!!

(sorry if this a double msg for you -- The PM function wouldn't work for me for some reason!)

  20. Bribe 'em.. Best method! :);)

  21. Oooh I like your new "BCF Blog Reviewer" title.. Impressive! :)

  22. Maybe some others will join at some point :)

  23. All done with The ABC Murders.. good read, and of course I was way off as to the who and/or why! :) That's all I'll say as to not spoil anything at all in case you decide to read it!

I just read up on The Secret History.. It looks good! I've never heard of the murder case it's supposed to parallel, but it sounds really interesting. Plus, it's written by a lady who was born in Mississippi, which is one state from where I grew up. I always love to read authors who are from my area or close for some reason. :)

Let me know how you like the book.. If it's a great one, I may pick it up for myself sometime.

  24. Oh... My. You certainly picked a challenge of a job this time around, didn't ya? ;) Very admirable that A) someone picked out specifically to recruit for the job and B) that's a job you're able to handle and look forward to. I'd be hopeless at it. Does "challenging" mean mostly behaviour problems?

Things are still good out here.. We're having a great time in Hong Kong. We have a little over 2 more months here, and then we settle on a permanent placement and have more of a "home" setting. So far, we're applying to 2 jobs in California and 1 in Australia. Hopefully some more options will come along also, so we'll see what happens. :)

  25. Absolutely! I was going to do the same thing but you beat me to it ;)
