  1. So excited for the weekend! :)

    1. Nici

      Nici

Oooo what have you got planned?

  2. Weekend over here! :( We went out hard Friday night, so spent the next day pretty much useless.. and today just doing all the usual Sunday errands: grocery shopping, washing clothes, etc. We're trying to spend as much time as possible relaxing and hanging out w/friends before my mom arrives in 2 weeks -- She'll be here three weeks, so we'll be go-go-go then!

How was your weekend? Anything fun going on?

  3. LOL.. Of course you're already bored at work! That's hilarious. :D

The trip was very nice.. golfing, spa-ing, eating/going out (Cebu's actually a really fun city!), and laying out.. such a relaxing wkend. :) Raja accidentally forgot and drank the water though, so he's felt pretty rough for the last 24 hours -- he's much better by now, though! :)

How was your first weekend after working regular hours for a while?

  4. I need a drink, is what I need. Raja called me today and said his boss here in Singapore brought him into his office today and asked him if he'd considering staying on his team here rather than continuing on to Hong Kong. Both of us want to go to Hong Kong as planned, because HK is supposed to be so much fun, but now we don't know what to do.... My life is like a snow globe.. Someone just likes to pick it up and shake it every once in a while.

What's the project, just in case I decide not to go the alcoholic route.

  5. I'm so glad to hear you liked The Crimson Petal and the White.. I've heard really good things about this after finding the title yesterday! I'm excited to read it now.. so many books and just not enough time!

I think your job sounds like a very rewarding job.. tough at times, and probably a major challenge, but what a rewarding position! The "good days" at this job must make you feel so needed and like all the tough work is worth it.

A police officer up next, eh?? I could never .. I'm way too much of a scaredy-cat! Doesn't it make you terrified? What drove you to want to do the police thing next?

Alabama is actually nice and fairly atypical of what you think of when you think "Alabama." ;) I only have TWO distant relatives with farms ;) .. although I do think the way of life and work they do is cool, secretly! I was from Birmingham, which is the largest city in Alabama, so I had a fairly "normal" upbringing, as boring as that is ;)

  6. I can hardly believe it myself, but I'm still online because Raja's still reading here in bed.. He's reading "Pillars of the Earth" and I've never seen him read so much EVER! I'm so proud.. ;) So w/the light blazing on, I figured it was a good chance to get caught up w/BCF :)

Good luck w/your business proposal by the way.. that is VERY exciting!

  7. I'm really excited about this author.. I've been living under a rock with you apparently (hey.. there are worse people to be under rocks with, okay?! ;) ) and haven't heard of him previously. I've only read reviews and synopsis of "The Crimson Petal and the White" but Mac gave me a suggestion to look up, and I'm going to look up the other 2 you mentioned. Let me know if you get your hands on any of his soon.. it may be a while before I do since I have a few books sitting here that I need to get through!

  8. Just a quick note that I finished Grave Sight today.. loved it! :) Such a good book.. Can't wait to get to her others. Thanks for your reviews and recommendations for it. :)

  9. Hey, I was just grateful to FIND a hair salon that was actually written in English! ;)

Yes I think we're going to really enjoy HK.. I like our apartment a lot, and HK seems like a really fun city with more than enough to do. Plus Mom is visiting in less than a month now.. yey!!

I have a few blog updates set to be posted this week.. I did them this morning and am posting them one day at a time. That way I feel more like I'm doing work instead of just being behind :)

How much longer do you have left in school now? And have you done like ii yet and bought champagne for when you finally graduate?? hahaha.. :) Is balancing work and school tough, or do you have it pretty much down to a routine by now??

  10. It never hurts to try! I'll send good wishes your way and hope the proposal gets somewhere!

And Raja means "king" in India.. waaaaaay cooler than "border" so I'm going with that one. ;) Unless he makes me mad, then I'll be like "Oh, really?! It's like that? Well your name means 'border' in Finnish, so there!" ;)

  11. Well. I was slightly off, but close enough, since the book has pictures!

    What? You need security people?

  12. Hahaha.. "soup" !! The name may as well mean "rock" or "hair" or something else equally dumb. I love it! Too bad she now knows her name means "soup" in the Slovenian language, or whatever it's called..

Does "Beth" have any meaning in the Finnish language?

  13. Hi Mac! Things are moving along over here.. Mom's visit is finishing up tomorrow morning, then Raja's family comes in Saturday night, so I'm going to do a lot of laying out at the pool and reading in between the two visits. :)

How are things with you? Still staying busy?

  14. Just passing along that I LOVE your newest avatar.. That kitten is just precious all curled up! Love love love it! :)

  15. Ooh you're reading a new Erica Spindler now! :) Let me know how you like this one!

  16. I'm enjoying it so far and hope to get through a lot of it today.. It's a pretty short book but I just haven't had the time to devote to it. Thanks for your feedback. :)

  17. We're leaving Wednesday evening, so packing today and relaxing tomorrow before the trip :)

  18. Hi Paula! :) Thanks for the msg!

Things are good here.. My mom's been visiting for the past 3 wks, and her trip finishes up tomorrow, so she'll be heading back home to the States. Then Raja's family arrives for 8 days on Saturday night, so I'll be starting the sight-seeing process all over. ;)

How are things going with you??

  19. Oh, I feel your pain... My dad is NOT a traveler, and my mom looooves touring around and seeing new places. She just goes with me instead. ;)

The journey is about 2 hours by flight.. not super long, and the rest of the traveling will be by train or car and will take a bit longer as we go from stop to stop. I'm a bit excited.. but also a bit nervous, as this isn't really my idea of the perfect holiday -- Lots of early mornings spent on bumpy trains, staring at old buildings, and "light packing" isn't really my favorite way to spend time, but I'm hoping for the best! We'll see how it goes... ;)

  20. Oh, I'm fine.. We got the news today that Raja's boss would love for him to stay in Singapore the entire 6 months, rather than move to Hong Kong as planned in 10 days. So that's a little bit of a tumble, and we're not sure what decision to make, but other than that it was a great day. Laid out.. Finished a book.. started a new one.. Really can't complain too much. :)

How is your day going so far? Anything good, bad, funny, sad, etc going on?

  21. That is SO neat that she's getting to travel so young.. Those things are experiences that people take through them all through the rest of their life, and it can really make an impact. Traveling is such a blessing.. It really lets you see the world from a different perspective, and it's wonderful that your daughter is getting to start so young; these experiences can really help shape her!

Hey no worries.. Everyone but me calls him "Raj" anyway, so I didn't even notice that you'd said it! :)

  22. Just okay? Anything on your mind?

Mom's had a great time in HK.. there's so much to see and do here, so she's had a great time exploring and learning about the city. Three weeks wasn't even enough time to do everything, but she got to do a lot!

I love HK.. the weather gets really hot and humid, but other than that, it's pretty much a perfect city for me. :)

  23. Oooh you took your mom to some wonderful places!! I am DYING to visit several parts of Italy, and would also love to go to Paris. And other than that, would love to see the English countryside, and also Sydney! I'm going to stuff myself in your mom's suitcase the next time she goes to visit you so I can see where all she gets to go next. :)

And yes -- I am sure this trip will be fun -- I'm just a bit nervous as I haven't ever done this type of "rural traveling." I've hardly traveled at all until recently, and it's mostly been travel to nice, modern places. This should be a throwback.

  24. I haven't heard of either of these, Mac. What kind of things do they write? I'd love to check them out and see if maybe I'd like their stuff.. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

  25. Hi, Karen!
