  1. Afternoon here :) Thank ya!

Walked inadvertently into any trouble lately? Any funny stories to share with me? ;)

  2. All done with The ABC Murders.. good read, and of course I was way off as to the who and/or why! :) That's all I'll say as to not spoil anything at all in case you decide to read it!

I just read up on The Secret History.. It looks good! I've never heard of the murder case it's supposed to parallel, but it sounds really interesting. Plus, it's written by a lady who was born in Mississippi, which is one state from where I grew up. I always love to read authors who are from my area or close for some reason. :)

Let me know how you like the book.. If it's a great one, I may pick it up for myself sometime.

  3. And then.. somehow.. one day.. I realized I was making it here. I stopped noticing only the bad and started seeing some of the good, and now I'm quite happy here. I would not go as far as to say I'd be happy if we would be living here for 5 years or anything.. but we are here through the end of this upcoming March, and I think a total of 6 months here is actually a good amount of time.

It's awesome you got to spend some time in the south.. we actually haven't even been south yet. What cities were you in there? And I am willing to bet you learned a TON during your time, especially with the 24 hour thing. India is hard sometimes, and there's no doubt our next place will be easier.. but I probably won't learn as much or stretch myself as much in our next place either. All give and take, I guess. :)

  4. As you can tell from my lack of activity on BCF, we did NOT end up taking it easy or relaxing at ALL! ;) But we had a good weekend and got to hang out w/friends a lot, so no complaining from me. :x :) How was yours?

And guess it wasn't you that mentioned Psych :) Sorry about that! My husband just finished up grad school a year ago, and he loooved grad school. He said he learned so much and is able to use a lot of the skills he learned at work all the time. What kind of work will you hope to do?

I'm sure the end being so close is a bit scary, but I bet you'll be just fine! Do companies come to your school to recruit towards the end?

  5. Aww.. that can't be true! I'm sure your life is PLENTY busy, what w/that cute one in the photograph and all... ;)

I WILL tell you a secret.. I LOVE routine. Love it. I actually sometimes miss trotting off to work at the exact same time every morning, laying out my shoes with my outfit the night before, coming home and watching the exact same shows on TV.

This traveling around and moving so much has forced me to be a lot more flexible and it's taught me a lot.. but every once in a while, I really do miss the routine things!

  6. Awww boo :( I remember the planned trips to see Raja that got botched at the last minute unexpectedly.. It is a horrible feeling! At least he will be there Wednesday.. That saves the whole situation! :) I hope you get to go with him for the 5 days also. So fun! What an emotional rollercoaster you're on over there! ;)

The move was hectic but good.. and now we are all moved in, happily buying the last pieces of our furniture, and taking advantage of being in the city during the weekends. So far, so good. :) The job search is offically underway for me.. Please pray that someone calls me before I FREAK OUT! ;)

  7. Back again, BookBee! :)

I finished "The Last to Know" today actually, and ended up really liking the book.. Just wanted to update you. :)

  8. Boo :( I was hoping you were loving it and couldn't sleep for reading it now! Oh well.. at least you're forging ahead w/it.. I'm impressed! :)

I JUST got housing options from Citi for HK THIS SECOND, so I'm about to go dig through those and pick my future home.. Hopefully we are moving next week! I'm so excited!

  9. fabulous!!

and even MORE exciting... We just found out we're moving to Hong Kong next!! I'm freaking out and so excited!!

    How are you??

  10. Glad to hear the French reception went well! If you have any pictures uploaded on any site, I'd love to see some. :) January, huh? Not much longer.. That's going to be so exciting!

Shenzhen was great.. And we leave Thursday for Thailand. Hopefully it'll be fun! :) We will go back to the States after that.. looking like Manhattan could be the final destination, but nothing set in stone yet. We shall see!

  11. Ha.. I totally figured you got bored for some of that nature! You just seem to move so fast, that I doubt most things in life catch up to you right away. :)

Raja is all better now, and it's already the weekend again! Him being off work Monday really made the week fly by. :) I BARELY play golf.. Raja's the golfer. I didn't even go play with him on the trip -- I just stayed by the pool and beach while he went. Wherever we move next, I think I'm going to go with him more since it's a good quality-time activity that he really enjoys.

I'm sorry you're by yourself now and everyone is gone. :( At least you're going to be around your long-lost friend and you guys can cook up all kinds of stuff!

  12. Haha! I'd say the bulls-eye is quite fitting. ;)

Weekends good.. just moved to Hong Kong this weekend so we're getting settled in and finding our way around.

    How's yours?

  13. Haha! Legoland! The things you can do to keep kids happy.. They are going to have a blast there. Everyone wins. :) Nice job!

I hope his visit goes absolutely wonderful.. That is going to be such a nice break for you-- time off, kids at Legoland.. couldn't be better. :)

  14. haha.. mistaken for an American, huh? Funny!

Good luck as the classes continue.. senior year is tough sometimes!

  15. Haha.. No problem, Mac! :) I'm not so good at remembering birthdays myself, so I never expect anyone to remember mine or send wishes on time.. I like the belated ones JUST as much! :) Thanks for your msg!

I' m definitely experiencing food.. I've been cooking like a maniac for the last couple of months and trying all kinds of new recipes! So 'Suzy Homemaker' over here. ;)

How is the new job coming along??

  16. Haha.. so funny that you can't stand Winona Ryder.. Cracks me up :) Things like that really can influence whether or not we pick up a book though, you're so right! Glad you liked it.. I will definitely keep it on my TBR list after your comments!

Isn't there another sequel as well?- Jo's Boys or something? Do you think you'll read that one also?

  17. Hahaha.. "soup" !! The name may as well mean "rock" or "hair" or something else equally dumb. I love it! Too bad she now knows her name means "soup" in the Slovenian language, or whatever it's called..

Does "Beth" have any meaning in the Finnish language?

  18. Hahaha.. I just cracked up when I read one of your posts. In the BookRing thread, you said something like "How do I get my name on this list again? And who do I send my address to? Sorry.. I ask so many questions!" and someone responded and said "Well, Mac, you're at the bottom of the list." Hahahahhhaa.. I died laughing. It was a perfectly appropriate response in regards to the convo going on, but out of context, it's just hilarious. :D

Anyway.. beyond that.. I see you got a new job! Fill me in, as I've been entertaining and am seriously behind. Hope you're well!

  19. hahaha.. this is going to be an eventful night for you! I, meanwhile, will be eating dinner with a set of bible-thumping newlyweds, of which the female half "is grateful for rickshaw rides because it gives her more time to pray." I mean.. i love the girl.. she is VERY sweet.. but I'm certainly not going to be kissing any women or downing any jello shots tonight. :-/

We should be leaving next week.. could be any day next week, but we'll move in either on April 1st or April 5th, depending on our housing options.

  20. Hahha.. smart one! ;) Jk -- I do that all the time, on here AND on FB!

Oh, I'm not GOOD at singing.. I just can't imagine caring when I'm 4 margaritas in.

and haha! Raja is fairly flexible and totally not the jealous type -- I'd love to see if he batted an eye if that's how I presented it!

  21. Heh.. You joke, but I harbor a secret desire to live in England. I think it's from all these damn books I read by British authors.. ;) Raja and I talked about looking for opps in London, but unfortunately, the London market for Citi isn't the major player it used to be since all of the banking shifts, so it wasn't a very good option. :(

It looks, right now, like we may end up back in Manhattan which is very exciting! I just find something magical about NYC, even after living there a short time. The change this time would be that I'd be working there, and I haven't attempted a job search in Manhattan before.. a bit daunting!

  22. Hello there! I just got your email.. love out-of-the-blue emails! They are my favorite. :)

I am fine.. nursing a raging sunburn that I accidentally got Sunday -- My first since our arrival to Hong Kong! :( Ah well.. it had to happen sometime, I guess. Although it would have been NICE to get it from lounging on a yacht... Jealous over here. ;)

Will write you back straight away -- It's time to find out how Monaco was anyway. :) xoxo

  23. Hello! :)

So Texas it is, huh? :) I've never been there myself, but we have 2 good friends living out there, and they love it! I'm glad you've gotten to spend quite a bit of time there, visiting your partner. My (now) husband and I spent the first 8 or so years in different states most of the time, so I so get the going back and forth thing.. It's definitely necessary, and usually fun! :)

  24. Hey Dan!

Thanks for letting me know how you did with the Bray book.. I'll still give it a try, but now I'll be more inclined to let it go if the beginning doesn't grab me. Always helpful to get a recommendation to work through the rough bits, or just move on to something better. :)

So you probably got through some of "Plain Truth" by now.. We've been out of town for a long weekend so I'm just now getting the msg. :) How are you liking it??

Also, just ran across a series the other day that I'm thinking of trying.. It SEEMS like it will be sort of chick-litty but is set in the early 1900's (if I remember correctly..) The novels are called "The Luxe Novels" and are by Anna Godbersen. You may want to look at them since it combines a time period you like with some chick-litty topics, if you're still in the mood for that. :)

  25. Hey guess what? :)

My husband was searching today for some info on "Pillars of the Earth" since he just finished reading the book. He came home and said "Is someone on your book club named Louise?" And I said yes and he wanted to see the picture/avatar. So I showed him, and he'd recognized your avatar from BCF (he's sitting with me a lot when I'm on BCF in the evening), and saw it again on another book club forum today while he was at work! Isn't that funny? :)
