  1. Count me in as a Barbara Erskine fan. I've read all of her novels, except the latest which I have on my tbr pile. My favourites are still the first two I read, Lady of Hay and Kingdom of Shadows. I love how she interweaves present day and the past and writes characters that you really care about.

  2. I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns at the moment. It's got me completely hooked. I read The Kite Runner and though I enjoyed it, I think I'm liking this one more. Can't wait to get back to it. Will come back when I've finished.

Well, I've just finished reading this remarkable book. I absolutely loved it, even though it was so harrowing at times. I found the characters believable and felt for them every step of the way. I found this book much more engaging than The Kite Runner, maybe simply because the main characters in this one are female. I can't recommend this highly enough.

  3. I've got this sitting on my bookshelf. Haven't got round to reading it yet, and did consider getting rid when I was sorting books out a few days ago. I didn't though, and am now intrigued again. May give this one a go next.

I have started this now and am about half way through. It hooked me from the start but like Kay, I don't really know why. I am loving it though and can't wait to get back to it.

  4. The first few books were her best I think. I still have the first 6 or 7 in paperback and they are my favourites. I haven't read them for a while so must look them out sometime soon.

I thought the more recent books weren't so good, especially once Patricia Cornwell started writing from the third person viewpoint instead of from Scarpetta's. I'm so used to the books being from her point of view that the newer books don't read right to me (I will still always read a Scarpetta novel though!)

  5. I like my bookmark to match the book jacket if possible. I have loads, mainly the Persephone ones that come with each book. They also send out a bookmark with the bi-annual magazine that Persephone publish, so I have a growing collection of bookmarks. :D

  6. I read this book whilst on holiday last September. I had really enjoyed The House At Riverton so had high hopes for this one, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the different time frames and felt that each was so distinct that I didn't get confused which was a bonus! I agree with the previous comment that it is a bit like The Thirteenth Tale, which I also enjoyed. The author does tend to write quite long novels, so if you are after a quick read then it is not ideal, but for a lazy week on the beach it's fantastic.
