  1. :D Thanks so much. Yeah, you did make it just in time!
  2. :D Thanks! Yours is perfect of course :tong:. I would love to have a room like that in my house.
  3. :D Yep! Another one of your recommendations. What are you doing to my bank account?! :tong: I'm going to read that after The Time Traveler's Wife. If I ever finish the one I'm on at the minute.
  4. :) I know! I was far too excited when I noticed, hehe.
  5. :) No problem, I'm glad you're enjoying it! I had a look at other books by her but the blurbs didn't appeal much.
  6. :) Thank you! I saw some comments about Twilight again so I decided to change it. A few people are getting a bit fed up, oops!
  7. :5birthday::party:

(I know I already wished you Happy Birthday but I really wanted to use these!) :D

    Have a great day!

  8. Awwh, no! So double the crappiness then. You could try having a nice warm bath? That always makes me feel better when I'm ill/in pain. :soaking1:Hope you feel better soon!

I'm ok thanks. Am just spending the evening on here, doing a bit of reading and generally avoiding any Uni work. I'm going to be spending the whole weekend working on an essay so I figured I could have tonight off. :D

  9. Haha, I can imagine. Luckily, I read them over a six year period else I would've suffered from a lack of sleep too. Although, that did mean that I had to wait years for the next one to be released!

I know, she really is a great author. I just wish that she would writte more novels suitable for adults. All her other ones are for children and young teenagers.

As for another after Double Cross, I read an interview with her in it and she said that she would never say never about doing one. But I don't think it's a definite. I do think she's left it so that another could one could be written but we can only hope! :)

  10. Hehe, that's strange; Me and my BF love Pizza Hut but I've never been to Nando's! I've heard so much about it and so many people seem to love it that I keep thinking about trying it out but we haven't really had the chance yet! :D Ha, yep, both addictive and the reason I have no money left . I've bought so many books since I've joined here. It's good though because I'm trying book that I never would have considered before.

The Reader - "The Reader is a compelling meditation on the connections between Germany's past and its present, dramatised with extreme emotional intelligence as the story of a relationship between the narrator and an older woman".

I've read mixed reviews so figured I'd try it for myself! :)

Do you know what The Book Of Lost Things is about? Everyone keeps mentioning it and I'm a little intrigued but I have no idea about the actual plot.

  11. Hello! :) I take it that you've read Slumdog Millionaire too then? How did you find it? I'm over halfway through but I just don't have much time to read it at the moment. There's several things that I really love about it but others that I'm not so keen on!

  12. Hello! I'm sure it was you who has read Vulnerable by Amy Lane? If it's not I apologize in advance! What did you think to it? I've just started it tonight.

    Have a good week :)

  13. Hey, Happy Birthday!

  14. Hey, sorry for the late reply. I've had such a crazy weekend! It was my flatmate's 21st so we went out Friday and had a house party last night, I feel so ill! I'm not used to it, I'm such a **** student.

About Wuthering Heights, Phoebe was reading it for a literature class and she was talking about symbolism. I'd love to try reading that at some point, I'm just not sure if the writing style will appeal. I'm ashamed to admit, I've never actually read a classic!

I haven't even started The Book Thief yet and I doubt I'll make much progress with it as I've got an assignment in for Wednesday. You have work in for next week too, don't you? Or an exam? I remember you mentioning something like that! Good luck with both. :D

  15. Hey! I love you already! Love your name and your avatars :D. I'm a little bit obsessed with Twilight, hehe.

I read on a thread that you were looking for suggestions for reading after Twilight? When I finished them I bought The Host too and I enjoyed that one as well. :D Other ones I found were:

-The Otherworld Series by Kelley Armstrong

    - Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris.

-Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward.

-The Little Goddess Books by Amy Lane. (Apparently v.similar to Twilight)

-The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith.

Hope this gives you some idea :). Welcome to the forum!

  16. I can only imagine what a novel by Fitzgerald would be like! His writing style not to my taste at all. Hehe, I'm glad I've not got an exam on it! I had exams on Of Mice And Men in school. I always find that if you have to read a book for a class, then you can never enjoy it the same way.

Yeah, I always tried to re-read the previous ones before starting a new HP book or I would've forgotten! :) Good luck with it

  17. I did worry that I wasn't going to like it. Obviously if you have such high expectations of a book, it rarely reaches them. It's definitely different to what I expected though. I can think of only two criticisms at the moment but I'm waiting to see where the book leads before I'm set on those. :)

Wow, Victorian Lit, that sounds like that would be really interesting. I've just got Social Psychology and then Developmental Psychology tomorrow. The first we're doing about Social Representations which is quite interesting but I'm not overly fond of Social Psy. Developmental is all good though. We're doing about language at the moment.

Haha, I always go into places that sell books alone. People have suffered with me before. Even my boyfriend won't come with me anymore! :tong: If you go, happy raiding. As it's all for charity, you don't have to feel bad about buying more books! :D

  18. I guess for most it comes down to the prospective of choice and having that control over your life. Or at least, believing you do, even if you don't. If your life is pre-determined then that concept could be perceived as totally depressing. That lack of choice and inevitable fate. I guess that's why I'm not keen on the concept of determinism.

*Understand why Roxi is a philosophy student* :D

This conversation reminds me of The Time Traveler's Wife. :D

  19. I guess that's what interests me about morality though. The fact that it is created by us as humans. I'm interested in the differences between people and how these morals are developed and applied to their actions. It fascinates me how there can be that underlying understanding in someone of what it means to be 'morally correct' and yet their actions may not reflect that. Or even when they have no concept of morals at all.

The free will idea is definitely interesting too. And yes, loads of studies suggest that free will has little to do with how we turn out. I'm not sure if I'm too fond of that whole deterministic idea!

  20. I haven't had dinner tonight. Or at least, not food that could be classed as dinner. I need to sort my diet out! :chef: Enjoy yours!

What's your essay on again? I remember reading it somewhere but I've forgotten, sorry! We touched on a little bit of Philosophy the other day, all about dualism and such. I actually understood (most of) it, I was quite proud of myself.

  21. I'm finding the Fitzgerald stories very tedious. I can't wait to finish the book. I'm tempted to give up as I've read four out of the seven.

Ooh, wow :). The 7th HP book. I really hope you enjoy it! I want to re-read it just because I feel like I've forgotten most of it. Happy reading!

  22. I'm loving the insight into India and the variety of the culture, it's really fascinating, if not very harrowing at times. I also really like Swarup's style, he's a great story teller, I think! I love the idea of the book, how events from his life has led to him knowing the answers but I think due to the nature of that, it reads a little like numerous short stories linked together. So starting each chapter kinda feels like reading a different book for a few pages. I'm also not completely hooked on it at the moment and am not that attached to it.

I'm off to read your review now! :)

  23. I'm pretty good thanks! Hows the reading going? I'm about halfway through The Reader and am really enjoying it at the moment. :) I read that you liked it too?

Bookmark still hasn't arrived, can you believe that?! It's been over 2 weeks now. He said they were waiting for new ones to come in and that they'd give me two for the trouble. As long as it's not two of the same, I'll be happy! :tong: Hehe, I hope your friend likes it. Actually, that's given me an idea, I might send the second one to my Twilight obsessed friend (the one kissing Edward in my photos!)

    BookBee

  24. Oh, good. :D It's been such an amazing read so far and it's got such a heartbreaking feel about it, that I think you assume a happy ending is unlikely. Sometimes happy endings just feel forced and unrealistic.

:crazy:I know, I'm usually up quite late because I drink a shed load of coke and I'm seriously like a hamster. I function better in the hours when everyone else sleeps! I need to sort it out really, hehe. How come you're up so late?

  25. Ooh, well I think I'll have finished it by Saturday so I'll have to let you know what I think. I'll be glad to have finally read it; people mention it so much that I've always wanted to know what they're talking about. :D

 Tell me about it! I rarely go bed before 4/5, even when I have a 9am lecture. It's terrible. I've got an 11am start tomorrow which is not too bad I guess!

Is it snowing over there? It's snowing again here. Which could possibly mean that my lectures are cancelled, again!
