  1. I'm glad I got you interested! You'll thank me later =P (And no I won't be a reviewer until I get you to read the sheep story :irked:)

And I'm okay in other ways, I just don't feel like writing on the forum for some reason. For once I'm actually doing more reading then writing about reading! I'm quite enjoying this reading mojo at the mo :readingtwo:

I hope you had a nice weekend and are okay. How about that Monday weigh in? I weighed 82,5 but that's neither here nor there cause I'm menstruating and bloated. I hope you had better results :) I'll see you later hon, I'm off to read more of Sweetheart :smile2::friends0:

  2. I'm glad you're enjoying Dexter! I love it how you get both the book and the TV series and they're both excellent yet very different when it comes to storyline (except for the 1st book & season). I'm dying to see season three! :smile2:

Thanks for your words on the scales thing! It really cheered me up :smile2: I'm feeling motivated again. This forum's just great, the support is awesome!!

Our bank holiday was on Thursday so it's gone already. I wouldn't mind having a bank holiday every two weeks :tong:

Oooh man I've gotta dash, I'm making spring rolls. (Not from scratch! I'm not that handy)

  3. I'm going to have to give you a heads-up: I might give up on The Vampire Lestat. I just can't seem to get on with it, I only read 5 pages before going to bed and feel bored and fall asleep :irked: And yesterday, when I could've read all day, instead I just cleaned the house! Usually it's the other way around. :/ I'm gonna give it a couple of more gos but if it doesn't work out then I'm gonna start something else. (Which by the way bugs me like hell because I really wanted to like this book, I even ordered it online! And I haven't given up on a book in ages... :()

I hope you have a lovely weekend and I hope you're enjoying Lestat far more than I am :)

  4. I'm just glad I've saved money for food and the student housing was co-operative and were okay on me paying the rent later. It's still annoying though, but I'll be fine.

I'm sorry but ceiling painting does not sound like fun, sounds like a strain on the arms and muscles. I don't blame you for ... hm... taking a wee bit break on the work ;)

And how on earth have you added 6 books already today?? Just you wait, the way we're going you'll be soon having my kinda monstrous TBR and I'll be left with only a couple of books to read. Oh it would be pleasurable!

My black wings turned out great, really crispy and juicy. Mmmmmm. Now it's time for coffee.

  5. I'm not sure about the movie idea either but I guess they can expand on the theme and make more things happen. It might even make a really good movie in the end. I'm thinking it'll be a tearjerker. (You can cry at the stupidity and selfishness of Bruno if there's nothing else )

Wow you really like Gaiman! Wouldn't it be great if he said yes?? Then you could get him to come over here at the BCF and let us prod his brains so we could see how it all works and makes literature! And I guess it would be nice for other reasons too, I suppose you'd know more about that.. ;) And if he doesn't accept, you might still get an autograph out of him! Remember to bring your collection of his books along so he can sign on them.

Oh BTW, I noticed you're doing urban (or was it modern) distopia for uni, that sounds really intriguing. Which books are you going through for that?

  6. I'm not surprised that it's difficult to find somewhere to take lessons on Swedish in Canada :( But as you're so motivated yourself and keep up with it it's good. I'm sure you've know of Astrid Lindgren's children's books. Have you read any of them? The ones I've read are brilliant :)

If you visit Sweden it would be so easy to come to Finland for a visit! Just take the cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki, they're great! :D Helsinki is a beautiful city in the summer (the only big cities I've been to are Helsinki and Copenhagen so I really wouldn't know better). I live in Joensuu which is about 500 kilometers from Helsinki to the Nort-East so it isnt' very close.

  7. I'm okay I think, my flu's gone but I'm just not able to do heavy exercise yet as I get tired easily. Including normal activity like bikeriding  BTW, I didn't have a hangover on Sat, I had a pretty great day. I watched a lot of TV shows I'd taped and just enjoyed my sofa+TV time :)

I sure know what it's like not having the highest motivation to weigh yourself and do the thing you know so no worries :D (But if you'd like me to kick your butt let me know! Otherwise I'm not gonna harrass you.)

I'm off to make meself a cuppa coffee, first cup of the day :D

  8. I'm saving my other comments for that PM you're gonna get this week but I just have to say this one thing: you, boring people?? Are you silly, woman?!!! That's the last thing I would associate with you, honest to s/he-who-will-not-be-mentioned!!

Now you go and have your quality time with OH! :D

  9. I'm so glad you're back :friends0: I was away from my computer for almost a week (voluntarily, I was at my BF's :D) and I was sure that when I'd get back you'd already be here. You almost made it in time, I reacquinted with the forum yesterday myself. It feels like it's been ages, doesn't it??

How does the house feel? I hope you've set up your library already! Yeah I bet there's loads to do and so much to unpack, you having a family (stuff and things seem to multiply when people do, too). When I was helping with my BF's move to another appartment it seemed like there was no end to the stuff that he had, and that was just his stuff. (I happen to love moving though so I didn't mind at all :D I think it's so nice, wrapping everything up and then finding my things their new place at a new appartment...)

  10. I'm so sorry Nicola, that's terrible! :( Did he have some sickness or did he just die unexpectedly? It must be really shocking for your mother and you as well. I'm really lost for words, I can't begin to imagine what you are going through right now :( I'm glad that you're staying at your mother's, it must be a relief for your mother. From what I've gathered from some previous posts I believe you have a good relationship and she can really count on you to be there for her.

No one's decided on the next novel yet but there's a new Dex social group and I think people might discuss it there. Join us when you can, but do take your time. :friends0:

  11. I've been busy with packing+travelling to see BF and celebrating Mayday (a big hol in Finland) so haven't had time to reply earlier. How was your presentation? (I hate them, I get very nervous weeks beforehand :( Once I had to do a presentation with my pair in Swedish for 40-50 people in a huge lecture hall, that was awful.) At least you're done with it and the weekend's ahead! Any plans? I hope you have some time off for yourself, you've been really busy for a while now!!

Making Waves series is getting along great, I think I'm in the 5th book. Really easy+relaxing reads. Although I have to say that it's a bit weird, this girl's in a relationship but as soon as there's another good looking guy who looks at her and is in some kinda trouble she seems to get all mothery on him and falls in love with him in like two days and is really torn. And it wasn't the first time either. Was it really like this in our teens, or is this just what the writer thinks people want to read??

  12. I've been hearing about the K Armstrong books on the BCF too and couldn't resist getting the first two. Have you read Adrian Mole before? Their just awesome+hilarious :D

My TBR (on goodreads) is currently at 412  (That's somewhat due to Rory List and the fact that I've added about 100 books that I want to read from the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die -list. Otherwise TBR might be 250-300. I happen to know your TBR is huge too, wasn't it something like 460 now? Sometimes I'm envious of those who have only like 5 books on TBR. What's that like??

(The only thing I'm afraid of counting is the amount of books I've actually bought and not yet read. There's about 200 of them... Am I right to assume you are the same way?)

I'd like to have more variety on TV as well! I think we have more American+British series combined than Finnish series :S Although I have to confess, American TV can be really superb.

I'm off to get more coffee and read, sleep tight :D

  13. I've been really lazy lately with the forum, I've only popped in every now and then but don't feel like contributing right now =/ But I just had to come here to tell you that I really really enjoy the second Chelsea Cain novel and I really recommend the books to you!! I did wikipedia on Cain and found out that there's a third novel to the series and it's going to be published in September and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm glad I found this author :) She was raised in a hippie commune, her parents were hippies and she wrote her thesis on that experience and her prof thought it was so good he sent it to publishers and they published it as a book. She was only 24 at that time :icon_eek:

She's done funny hippie guides before. She wrote Heartsick in 2004 when she was expecting and the book was published in 2007 and became an instant New York Times Bestseller. Sweetheart was published in 2008 and that one was a Bestseller as well :smile2:

I've heard good things about Erlend Loe in so many other forums but for some reason I've never given his books a try. I think Fakta om Finland sounds interesting, I'll add that to my TBR :) It's great to have someone in here who also reads Finnish and other nordic novels, I've been neglecting that area of literature for a while now and it would be nice to get reacquinted with it!

Yep, first step down, eleven to go ... :)

  15. I've read Gaiman's Stardust + The Graveyard Book and though they were alright, I didn't really take to them as much as I had expected to. But I'll definitely give Anansi Boys a go someday. I've heard great things about American Gods as well so may have to read that one too :)

I guess I'm really in for a surprise with Boy in Striped Pyjamas. I mean the blurb says there's no point in giving away the whole story so read it yourself, and for some reason I take it to mean that it's a gloomy book but now you say that it's a light read  I really don't know what to expect so I had better just read it.

If your BF only likes Night Watch series, maybe you could gently, slowly, secretly push him into other Pratchett's books and after that sort of mention about other fabulous fantasy novels.. ;) But I guess you've already tried. Don't worry, my BF doesn't read much more than your BF, just a bit. And when he borrows a book from me it'll take him 3-4 months to give it back :irked:

  16. Is it tomorrow already?? Fuuuuck! Have so much fun and do not get lost. That's it, now you're safe. If you do though, just have a pint and figure out where you at. Maybe buy a map? Maybe ask them Londoners for help? I'm sure they're familiar with countrypeople asking for help

I've been meaning to answer your previous messages but my BF was in town and he always interrups me and so I thought I'd just answer you later. Now I'm in a flu :( Don't feel like I can focus for longer periods of time. It's the stupidest time to get sick anyways, the local music festival being this particular weekend :( Won't you feel sorry for me?? :tong:

Aaa never mind me, have a blast luv!!! :D

  17. It seems like a quite scary bunch, all them black and white stripes. Are you sure they haven't just escaped from prison and forgotten their prison undies under their suits??

No I'm not due!! It isn't June yet :irked:

    :D

  18. It was so hilarious when Andy was talking to reluctant Dwight about wanting to other stuff than just necking with Angela. And when he finally announced he'd made some headway, it was soo funny! Him saying that now they were actually kissing, well, he was doing the kissing and Angela was just staying still, going Oh D, Oh D! It was soo funny! Andy is such an idiot for thinking D's short for Andy and Dwight was so funny for starting to laugh with Andy, egging him on

'Welcome to Scranton' Day for newcomers? D'you mean the people from the Stanford branch? Or is there something else :o And George Foreman grill doesn't ring any bells so I guess haven't seen it! :D

BF's definitely a keeper! It wasn't even his real bday pressie for me, it was just something extra he realised he could do, I have an idea of what I'm actually getting. Not that Dwight+Office would not be enough! I was so happy I cried when I opened the package! :) (Well, I'm PMS'ing too, at the mo... nice.!)

  19. It's done. I can't go back. I don't feel any different. I dread looking in the mirror. I hope I haven't wrinkled up. Or wisened up. We well have to wait and see....

    Have an excellent Saturday! :D

  20. Jim's awesome with his tricks and the way she includes Pam in them :D They have such an incredible chemistry, it's so nice to watch them together... I loved how Jim had told Dwight that you could order a Gaydar online and he sent one to Dwight. Poor Dwight, he happened to point the thing at himself and the machine beeped like there was no tomorrow  I think one of Jim's most cunning tricks was getting Dwight to hit himself in the head with the phone! Jim'd put coins in it so D would get used to the weight and then he'd taken the coins away and D would grab the receiver but as it had gotten lighter all of a sudden he thumped himself with it! Oh, good times!!

I have to keep an eye out for the coffee incident!:D

  21. Just got your PM, and wanted to say that it comforted me so much! I have so many words but don't know how to express them, so I'll just say that xoxoxo my loverly friend  and thank you!

Talk to you soon luv, and do take your time with the PM, no worries :)

  22. frankie

    Kiitos :D

I was just looking for a new forum on books and googled "book forum" and this was the third hit and seemed like the best, and I was hooked!

I noticed that in some thread you were saying that you were in Finland just some time ago and I wanted to ask you where did you shop for books but didn't feel like imposing (that's what you get for being a bit shy, silly me...) and off topicing again.

    How do you know Finnish/Finland?

Oh, and I also want to ask you, living in France, have you been to Shakespeare and Company? I read Sylvia Beach's S&C a few years ago, but I only realized a couple of weeks ago that the place is still running! If I ever get to Paris, that'll be the first place I'll visit :)

  23. Kylie, am I to believe that you've never read Twilight?? (I saw your comment on Janet's avatar in the thread) Why??? Whyyyyy!!! (:tong:)

Maybe you'll cave in, some day... While I'm waiting for that, I think I'm off to bed now. Have a great morning/day! :D

  24. Kylie,

you've just totally ruined the name 'Kylie' for me  The boomerang part didn't do it, you did it with the plain 'stick'

I can never think of Kylie Minogue the same way again... Some director of her music vid once said that directing her vid was awful because she can't dance (I disagree though). Well can you blame her, with a stick in a place where you can't see it??

I'll answer your PM later, I need a bit of time to copy from it :D

  25. Losing one's reading mojo is real bad :irked: How long has it been now? You need t get inspired but how, oh how? Marley and Me would be great I think; very warm, funny and light ;) Or you could try out Twilight.

Of course TBR includes wishlist, duh! Or can there really be other theories on that? For me TBR means the books I've bought and haven't read yet as well as the books that I've heard of and want to read eventually. It's really gotten out of hand because I believe I have at least 70 books in my bookshelf that I haven't read yet.

Yeah we opened our presents after we went to the sauna and had our Christmas dinner (ham, salmon, mushroom salad, sweetened potato casserole etc.). BF got me a bag of chips (crisps you would say) knowing how much I like them  and some rubbing scented oil which one can use in the sauna. Lovely :smile2:

You're probably already a bit tipsy by now and enjoying yourself? Have fun!! :friends0:
