  1. I finished The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas last night and it was brilliant :smile2: although I thought it was quite predictable that Bruno would go to the other side of the fence at some point and that it would turn out to be a really bad idea...

I cannot believe that I have to agree with you about Bruno. I think he started out as a sweet innocent boy, but man, he was stupid! He listened to Shmuel's stories everyday and didn't really understand any of it, just kept going about his own problems after a curtious line of sympathy to Shmuel. Okay he was only 9 but I think you gotta give 9-year-old kids a little bit more credit than that, I don't think they're that stupid. I think Bruno wasn't as much naive as he was thoughtless :motz:

  2. I guess we had it coming, we had such a lovely and hot week and a half and it was so hot people got a bit too weary and started perhaps wishing for a bit cooler climate... So I guess the phrase 'Be careful what you wish for' does have some true to it :)

Lucky you for going on a holiday, let's keep our fingers crossed the weather keeps :D Where are you heading if you don't mind me asking?

  3. I guess you forgot that it's Christmas time and Santa's little elves are watching over everyone, including you! And you must be aware that Santa lives in Korvatunturi, Finland. So it's pretty easy for me to know these things. Santa has gone quite contemporary and modern and he gets his info online and me being computer-literate makes it real easy... watch out ;)

It's good to hear you're able to drive again and therefore your back is good and your general happiness is increasing  I'm good, too, I just visited my godson this weekend, he had his first birthday! He was pretty shy with me at first and so was I (I don't see him that often unfortunately because there's 500 kilometers between us), but after all the other guests left we started bonding. It was so much fun playing with him and everytime I made him laugh it gave me a happy jolt! :smile2: Good times!

  4. I had a change in plans, I'm staying here instead of going home this weekend. Long story. But I get to go to a friend's housewarming party instead so it's good. The weather's excellent :D

Do start something else on the side of Hunchie, maybe that will help. Hunchie is surprisingly long, the book itself didn't seem thick when I bought it. The text is very small and dense :(

Oooh, sweet sixteen! :D Congrats to your son! They're having a manly slumber party  It sounds great, I'm sure they'll have fun. Why wouldn't they with you delivering pizzas and other snacks! I hope you give some to Kookie as well!

Wow Green Day tickets?? That's an amazing present! Does he know about it yet? He's bound to be impressed. And yep, he probably don't want Mummie hanging around, no matter how cool you are :D

Get some rest and relaxation on Sunday. I hope it all goes well :D

  5. I have to admit though that I'm glad you still haven't finished the book because I've only read about 50 pages of The Vampire Lestat. Plus I was visiting my parents this weekend and went to the local library in which I practically grew up and I borrowed my favorite teen romance fiction from my teenage years, Katherine Applegate's Making Waves -series. Very nostalgic :smile2: There are 7 books of those and I want to read them immediately, but luckily they're all very quick reads.

The Swedish vampire book we were talking about (I can't remember the name at the mo) was in English so there you go :) I wonder when I have the time to read it... so many books, so little time...

Ahh, I see I said I posted in the Deaver thread but I meant the Lincoln Rhyme thread. Ceinwenn read it already too and loved it even though she'd read it before. Charm's getting quite keen on it too, I think she's reading The Bone Collector at the mo.

Good luck with the presentation tomorrow! :)

  6. I hear you about the toilet thing... It ain't the best things about nature... Especially doing a number two. I don't think I'd manage that, I'd just refuse to do it

Oh my you're actually going to go to London!! I'm so jealous!! Bloody hell you must be excited!! How's the list of things you want to do there coming along? I wouldn't know where to begin, there's just too much stuff to do and see. Do you think you'll have time for shopping? You need it!! For clothes too, obviously. When I was in Helsinki (which is soooo much smaller in comparison to London) I felt like there were so many shops I didn't know where to start and then felt frustrated and exhausted and didn't do any clothes shopping  I'd love to visit vintage stores and secondhand boutiques. Oh my. Joensuu seemed like a really really small town when I came back

  7. I hear you, it's just better to stay out of those conversations. Things might get too heated otherwise. It's so funny how we agree on these things, I always find new things that we have in common (like the naughty little ciggie when having drinks and whatnot :tong:).

But do play it safe, you don't want mods on your back :D Anyways you need to redeem yourself and polish your reputation since you already confessed to liking Twilight. You're on probation, woman!!

Have a great shower and reading session, I'm gonna watch The Apprentice. Catch you later luv :friends0:

  8. I hope the physio wen't well and left you feeling goooood :D

I've heard of Stuart McBride but I've never read anything by him. Are you trying to get me to read a book of his so I could tell you whether it's worth a read?? 'Fess up!!

By the way: I bought this weird detective book about sheep maybe a year ago and I keep meaning to read it. It's called Three Bags Full and it's by a German writer called Leonie Swann. There's a flock of lambs and their beloved shepherd is murdered and the lambs try to figure out whodunnit. Now it sounds really weird but I've heard such appraisal for it I definitely want to read it. And the writing style seems great as well. What do you think? Does it sound interesting? I don't personally know anyone who's read it and who's willing to talk about it so I hope I get somebody interested =P

  9. I hope the weather lasts for you guys! And yeah I got your e-mail but I haven't had the time to respond to it yet. I hope I'll have the time at the end of the week :) It was long but the longer the better! The more I read about what's going on with you guys and how things are like where you live, the more excited I get, every single time!! :D And I can't wait to meet your friends as well, they sound really nice :)

Twitter is creeping me out, I haven't been on since that day I joined  I still need time to adjust and get the hang of it, I thinks. And I guess I'm still hesitant to tweet anything, being a newbie!

  10. I hope you had great hols at your BF's parent's, it seemed like it because of the weather. I'm so jealous :smile2: BF was here for the Easter, and we've left the appartment only for food shopping (shop is within 200 metres), otherwise we've just been watching TV and spending time on the computer (he's studying computer science so he's also working, I'm playing Carcassonne) + reading. Which leads me to Carcassonne which is a popular board game from Germany, it's been Board Game of the Year here in Finland and elsewhere too. I'm not gonna go into details, you can check it out in wikipedia if you're interested :)

I saw the Alice wannabe video on youtube and it felt weird.. I mean teens do things that seem weird to the rest of us, but I'm so glad that I grew up in a time when there was no internet to broadcast my stupid actions on. Sometimes I'm disgusted with how easy it is to embarrass a friend or an enemy in front of the whole world nowadays, before there were smaller audiences.

  11. I just arrived from a bar trip and let us just see how well I do with my English when I'm a bit tipsy!

The actual thing I wanted to say was that we were talking about The Book People in UK the other day and the website they have. They have a great offer on Jeffery Deaver's books, 10 books for

  12. I just had to come here and tell you something and make you proud  You remember asking me if I'd already done my Chrismas shopping and me answering "nope " Well! I started my shopping last Wednesday and was done with it by Friday afternoon! :D And I must say that I've never been finished with the Christmas shopping so soon and so long before the D-Day :smile2: I must say it feels good not leaving everything in the last minute, now I'm able to just relax and start doing the decorating and just enjoying my BF's company (he came here to celebrate Christmas and we have almost a week to ourselves :smile2:). Hooooray!

Are you and your family already waiting anxiously for Xmas? You must be because there are kids involved in your household  Awww, the eagerness of the young...

  13. I know what you mean. I watched the movie just last night with BF and while he was able to watch the end part without having any problems, I stopped watching and started to talk about baking another badge of rolls tomorrow, thinking hard about the recipe and so forth

The movie wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected :( I think the whole movie was about John Grogan and Marley was just a sidekick. Some people felt that way already about the novel too but I didn't notice it, not until I saw the movie. They had also changed a lot of the Marley scenes and omitted some of the parts completely =/ I don't think I'll be watching this movie again.

  14. I noticed your latest post in the LR thread and thought I'd pop in here to say hello! What's that 8 book bookring you're talking about? :icon_eek: Sounds demanding! Bloody hell!

How've you been? Is the house already completely finished? And have I missed anything on the forum? I spent the weekend at my parents, their old appartment was repaired after the water accident and now we had to move their stuff back to the old appartment. My parents initially thought they'd do the moving throughout the whole week and I could help as much as I could but I said the hell with it, I'm here now and I'm gonna work my butt off and we'll do it in 1 day. Mum kept saying there's no way we'll pull that off and it would be better to split the task for various days. Dad initially agreed with her but he did say that maybe it would be better to try to do as much as possible in one day (Sunday) because he's a plumber and it's very physical work and he doesn't feel like doing any moving after a day at work.

  15. I remember googling Gateshead while I searched for Coleman for more details and I do remember it being near Newcastle upon Tyne so I thought it might be pretty close to your town but I had no idea it was that close! You were actually there when the police caught the guy?? That must've been so creepy when you found out about it. I would've **** my pants. I just cannot believe that woman had the courage to stay in the house, I would've just ran off. I'm just glad it all turned out okay. And I'm glad there are 5 other girls so you'll be safe. I wonder if you'll get any time to read at all, you might end up going out all night long :tong:

I do hope that you get your student loan in time so you can do at least some shopping. Maybe you should leave some of your money with Ross so you cannot spend everything :D

  16. I saw Ceinwenn's comment, we could start our own social group called "I+toyboy=true" or something :D

I thought I'd mention that I saw your discussion on book activity thread and yep let's do The Coffin Dancer first and then move onto The Vampire Lestat. And just so you know, there's no one stopping you from reading The Vampire Lestat at the same time, as long as you wait a bit for me to join in on the commenting. And hon, use the spoilertags

Ooooh that trip to Netherlands sounds so great! And your project sounds quite devilish, you'll be easily able to combine work with leisure :D Just remember to check out how much your luggages are allowed to weigh on the trip back to UK in advance so you won't overdo it... I wonder if they have bookshops with English books...

Have a safe trip and have fun!!! :D

  17. I see what you mean by that leather cover book comment  I myself was thinking more along the lines of a beautiful fabric that could make nice curtains, or a real fancy evening gown.

Yep I got your e-mail, I'm off to read it now! :D Boy you were really quick!!

  18. I think I saw some of your last BB, I remember there was this cute looking hippie kinda guy, what was his name, hm can't remember. I'd love to see UK BB in our TV again, the coupla two first season were aired here and they were brilliant. But no matter how many pleas we write to the TV companies they ain't showing no UK BB :cry2:

BTW, I just started reading Dead to the World and noticed that the book cover is covered with beer!!! Eeeew!! It's the stupid boys' fault who came here last Fri, oh man I'm pissed off. Well it cleared off but oh man it could've gotten inside the book on the pages!!!

  19. I think I'm glad I missed the Twilight discussion, I'm a bit tired of people swooning over Robert Pattison (or whatshisname). I haven't seen the movie and quite frankly I don't know if I ever will thanks to the forum :)

But well... just out of curiosity, what about the deleted scenes?? (I might have to take a peek at the thread after all...)

Haahaa, good old ii  She's one of a kind she is! (Well, she's part Finnish which explains it ... :tong:)

We were already getting into the spring mode here, the snow melting from driveways and all but now it's snowing again :irked: It's quite warm though so it won't probably stay. I just realised yesterday that I have no excuses for taking up jogging again, cause it seems that the roads aren't slippery enough for my jogging shoes anymore...

Now I'm off to read the 1141 unread posts on this forum... might take a while :D

  20. I think Kylie is the Queen of lists and she does have an affect on people :D But don't you just love making lists! <3

Of course he's gay, all the good men seem to be :D goddangit!! :D

  21. I think my teens were totally awkward enough as it were, without having to find videos of myself on youtube. There were times when I was so shy and clumsy and scared of what people might think or talk about me, the possibility of ending up on youtube would have made it more difficult to cope with. I think the teens of today have it really hard, no wonder there's more people with depression and other mental conditions :( (It's embarrasing enough to read my teen diaries just by myself!!)

So now you got your autumn already? Must be really weird having miniseasons  There's no way one can get a tan there. I've never heard anything good about the English weather though. I think umbrellas are the everyday accessories there.

  22. I took a look at your new home pics and it's just amazing. You people have two showers and two bathtubs?? Is the other one connected to your master bedroom, I've forgotten?

I seriously love the style and I'm just so jealous. It looks like the coolest place ever. I wouldn't mind shacking up there! Although, to be honest, my only concern is that I'd be a bit scared to be myself there, I'd hate to mess anything up! It's so pretty and clean :D

Now I'm more serious about you needing to fix your own design agency

  23. I wish one could make a career out of being on the forum so one didn't have to worry about all the school assignments and all...

I actually did have access to a computer and internet when I was away but I made a voluntary decision to take a little break from it. I was at my BF's and he was sick and I had to do the shopping/cleaning/cooking/dishes/etc all by myself and that took up a lot of time (he usually does all the cooking cause he's great at it and I on the other hand am not ). We watched a couple of movies and I did a little reading too (mostly Vikas Swarup's Q&A which I thought was brilliant!). Oh yeah, and during the weekend I found this place where you could play Toulouse (basically Carcassonne, but due to copyright things or what not the internet version is named Toulouse) for free and spent ages playing :tong:

  24. I'll either stay home, see friends & read (I did that last year, the neighborhood was quiet&peaceful with the neighbors gone, it was pretty cool and I enjoyed it) or visit my hometown where a coupla my oldest girlfriends are having a gettogether+BBQ+booze =P

I understand your son, I'd be real happy to stay home alone were I in his shoes. I was 14 when I first stayed home alone for a weekend. I had 4 friends (!) overnight and we had a blast! We snacked and watched Pet Sematary 2 with E. Furlong  Everything went well and I'm pleased I got to stay home alone so young. Which leads me to the issue of trust. I think your son would be pleased to see you trusting him well enough to leave him home.

I do understand that you're real nervous about it. But try not to let it show to him, he'll figure you don't think he could handle it. If he's the least bit wise he'll know that he ought to behave really well because his success will determine whether he'll be left home alone anytime soon!

  25. I'm also torn between LR and Dexter. I think it also depends on Charm and Ceinwenn a little, I'd like to have as many people as possible read the Dexter books at the same time. I still need to reread the first two book of Dex because I can't remember much about them so I think I'm in too much of a hurry to start another LR before Dex.

I know, IWTV was too damn good and really set the standars too high for Vampire Lestat  I'm not sure if I'll read another book in this series. But I am keen on reading the Witching Hour by Anne Rice, I can't remember why but it did sound good.
