  1. I wish one could make a career out of being on the forum so one didn't have to worry about all the school assignments and all...

I actually did have access to a computer and internet when I was away but I made a voluntary decision to take a little break from it. I was at my BF's and he was sick and I had to do the shopping/cleaning/cooking/dishes/etc all by myself and that took up a lot of time (he usually does all the cooking cause he's great at it and I on the other hand am not ). We watched a couple of movies and I did a little reading too (mostly Vikas Swarup's Q&A which I thought was brilliant!). Oh yeah, and during the weekend I found this place where you could play Toulouse (basically Carcassonne, but due to copyright things or what not the internet version is named Toulouse) for free and spent ages playing :tong:

  2. I'm so glad you're back :friends0: I was away from my computer for almost a week (voluntarily, I was at my BF's :D) and I was sure that when I'd get back you'd already be here. You almost made it in time, I reacquinted with the forum yesterday myself. It feels like it's been ages, doesn't it??

How does the house feel? I hope you've set up your library already! Yeah I bet there's loads to do and so much to unpack, you having a family (stuff and things seem to multiply when people do, too). When I was helping with my BF's move to another appartment it seemed like there was no end to the stuff that he had, and that was just his stuff. (I happen to love moving though so I didn't mind at all :D I think it's so nice, wrapping everything up and then finding my things their new place at a new appartment...)

  3. Hiya Nicola, how are you? I've been away from computer for almost a week (excluding a couple of short visits) and off the forum too and it seems like it's been ages! Have I missed anything? :)

  4. I know what you mean. I watched the movie just last night with BF and while he was able to watch the end part without having any problems, I stopped watching and started to talk about baking another badge of rolls tomorrow, thinking hard about the recipe and so forth

The movie wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected :( I think the whole movie was about John Grogan and Marley was just a sidekick. Some people felt that way already about the novel too but I didn't notice it, not until I saw the movie. They had also changed a lot of the Marley scenes and omitted some of the parts completely =/ I don't think I'll be watching this movie again.

  5. Hi, I haven't seen you in a while here so I suppose you're doing the moving now? I hope everything goes well and see you back here soon!:smile2:

  6. Gosh I've never had that problem of having too much to say on my paper and having to cut down on the material  I think that taking a break from the paper would do you good, you'll have a fresh point-of-view for it after a refreshing break with maybe a recreational read or two ;)

Wow you were quick to start your own blog! But I'm glad you did, I'll be a frequent visitor! I'm off to take a peak at it after finishing this message :smile2:

I had a really quite weekend (after a not so quiet Friday night in a couple of bars) mostly watching TV. I didn't do as much reading as I would have hoped :irked:

  7. Hm that Noughts & Crosses doesn't sound too good the way you put it. But it's only 100 pages so far, maybe it'll pick up for you :)

Reading blog is a blog where you keep a list of books you want to read or have read, your thoughts on the books etc. When you go to the main page of Book Club Forum, there are subsections, and one of those is Reading Lists/Blogs. Check that out if you want :)

  8. BTW, have you considered keeping a reading blog here? :)

  9. I did a little research and it turns out Alcott first wrote Little Women and then by popular demand she wrote the second part Good Wives and these were later both known as Little Women, so I guess I'm reading the second part of Little Women now. But there are "actual" sequals too, Little Men and Jo's Boys (apparently these are about the March sisters' children). I'd like to see the older movie version, it might get Winona Ryder out of my head  I like Claire Danes as Beth though, she's fab :)

I've seen Nought and Crosses mentioned and praised so many times on this forum that it's impossible to miss it  I researched it in wikipedia but it didn't sound like something I'd like though (I guess it sounded complicated with all the different classes or whatnot). But you never know... Let me know how you liked it! :)

Why why why won't they allow books in the Disney School?? That sounds so medieval. And sick. Now I'm sad :(

  10. Your last post just proved how great a subject you picked for your paper! Disney truly sounds like a nazi dictator. And yet it's most known for the children's books and films... really controversial stuff!

I've been reading about reading but I've also been a good girl and actually read books! :smile2: I just finished Little Women by Louisa M. Alcott (my first time!) and I immediately started the sequal Good Wives. I've avoided Little women before because I can't stand Winona Ryder (she's in the movie) but I decided not to let that bother me anymore because I wanted to read the book. It was very good!

How about you, still on Anansi Boys?

  11. All them restrictions and matching curtains make me think of an X-Files episode where some people on a similar kinda suburb died under suspicious circumstances. There turned out to be some kind of a monster who killed the people who didn't live according to the many, many various rules and restrictions.... so good look to the people of Celebration :tong:

  12. I ain't going nowhere near that place in the nighttime, too creepy

  13. I'm glad that our dispute over Nightwish didn't stop you from making this request :smile2: It's nice to know people who like the same bands that I do. I haven't come across with another Anathema fan here yet :)

  14. Oh oh! (O'ou!) That's not good... Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

  15. That's probably a good idea. I think Ceinwenn's thread was great :D We just have to keep that up. But that should be easy enough now that we're all getting those new Dexter books at some point in the near future :D I can't wait for them!

  16. Thanks Kookie :) How've you been doing?

Awww poor horsie, what a sticky situation :(

  17. Yeah I've noticed the discussion on HP thread. I think you not using a spoiler tag was a newcomer's slip and you did apologise. Even the girl herself said that it was partly her own fault for reading those threads before she's finished the series. I think the discussion that evolved from that was just general discussion on when to use spoiler tags. Don't take it too personally :friends0: Besides, if I had just started reading HP I'd steer clear of any threads that were even the slightest bit related to HP, just in case. Because accidents do happen.

Yep BCF is really addictive and might get in the way of, say, studies... ;) I think there are several stages to becoming an active member. (In no specific order:) there's the mount TBR accumulating, staying on the forum instead of doing housework/homework/etc., and reading the posts on the forum (aka reading about reading) rather than doing actual reading. I think people should be warned about these things when they register. :irked:

  18. Yes I was the first to read Dexter but you are the one doing all the promoting! I'm really happy about that :D And if I remember correctly, I didn't suggest Dexter to you, it was you who asked me if it was any good, then I did my recommendation bit. Sometimes I wish I'd manage to write reviews on my blog so people would have a chance to get into the books I read (like you do, for example) but I think I'm just too lazy.

Awww that was truly nice from Ceinwenn to do that :smile2: Like I've said before, I will never stopped being amazed and surprised at how wonderful, warm people there are here in BCF.

Do you mean those special groups? I don't know anything about them, I've steered clear of them so far so I don't how they work. 3 seems like a small group though, I don't know. But there are a couple of people who are reading their first Dexter or wanting to read it soon, so I'm thinking there might be more people eventually...

  19. Oh wow, I just noticed your new artwork here on your profile page, I simply love that bookshelf-library pic. It creates a nice warm bookish atmosphere :D

  20. I cannot believe the good job you've done spreading the joy of reading Dexter, everybody seems to be doing it now :D I believe some credit goes to Ceinwenn too. Just you wait, I'm thinking pretty soon there's a cult.

  21. Oh silly me, I thought urban distopia was a literature course :) That course you're doing sounds really interesting, and so does your idea! I think utopia/distopia is a really fascinating subject matter. Like you said about Celebration, on the surface it is or might be a lot of peoples idea of utopia and even an ideal way to live but when you dig deeper and look at things from a different perspective there's a whole other story. Good luck with the paper, I think you're going to have fun writing it. Just remember to log off from BCF when writing, otherwise you'll just keep posting here and reading other peoples latest posts

  22. But why does he have to live in Minnesota? The plane tickets must cost like a fortune for you and besides what's in Minnesota? He could be more considerate and move at least to New York or something like that if he has to live in the US. You're lucky btw that he's not bad to look at. Oh my, I was going to google for an ugly male writer for comparison but then realised how superficial and mean that would be :giggle:

  23. I'm not sure about the movie idea either but I guess they can expand on the theme and make more things happen. It might even make a really good movie in the end. I'm thinking it'll be a tearjerker. (You can cry at the stupidity and selfishness of Bruno if there's nothing else )

Wow you really like Gaiman! Wouldn't it be great if he said yes?? Then you could get him to come over here at the BCF and let us prod his brains so we could see how it all works and makes literature! And I guess it would be nice for other reasons too, I suppose you'd know more about that.. ;) And if he doesn't accept, you might still get an autograph out of him! Remember to bring your collection of his books along so he can sign on them.

Oh BTW, I noticed you're doing urban (or was it modern) distopia for uni, that sounds really intriguing. Which books are you going through for that?

  24. I finished The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas last night and it was brilliant :smile2: although I thought it was quite predictable that Bruno would go to the other side of the fence at some point and that it would turn out to be a really bad idea...

I cannot believe that I have to agree with you about Bruno. I think he started out as a sweet innocent boy, but man, he was stupid! He listened to Shmuel's stories everyday and didn't really understand any of it, just kept going about his own problems after a curtious line of sympathy to Shmuel. Okay he was only 9 but I think you gotta give 9-year-old kids a little bit more credit than that, I don't think they're that stupid. I think Bruno wasn't as much naive as he was thoughtless :motz:

  25. You know all those little icons above the place where you write you message? Like B for bold, U for underline and so one? There's an S in a yellow box, that's for spoilers. Copypaste the line that contains the spoiler and press that S. And don't worry too much, these things happen sometimes :) (It's amazing that there still are people who don't know how HP books end!)

I'm afraid I've dissed that T-shirt so much that he knows it's me if the T-shirt's gone. I might have to involve other people in my plans
