  1. Yeah these things definitely can't influence what we read or don't read, which is a real shame sometimes. There are two sequels, Little Men and Jo's Boys but if I remember correctly these are about the girls' children's lives and I'm not overly interested about that so I don't think I'll be reading those. But I think it was great to find Little Women, I always liked L. M. Montgomery's books and wished there were more of these kinds of books! :)

  2. Hi Bethany!

I liked The Good Wives almost as much as Little Women, so it was good :) I wanted to read these for so long but I was always put off by the fact that Winona Ryder played Jo in the movie and I didn't want to picture Jo the book character as her. (Can't stand the woman) I think I missed out on a really good book as a child/teenager because of this :( I'm glad I finally overcame it and just read it :D

  3. Yeah I thought you might mean some other type of shopping but as it is a book forum of course I had to turn it into a book thing ;) I've been neglecting shopping for new clothes for ages, I've preferred shopping for books =/ I guess it would be good to get back to the clothes shopping mode as it's spring and people are able to see more of me because I cannot just wear my overcoat anymore  Do you have something special in mind? Or are you going to the shops just randomly? It's weird how you always seem to find everything much more easily when you're not looking for anything in particular. The minute you know you have to find something quick it turns out to be impossible and takes forever to find.

I've got no trips planned so far but I do have to go to an English speaking country soon enough to work in order to graduate. You wouldn't happen to know anyone who'd be willing to take me in as their companion, to talk about books for example, and who'd pay money for that? ;)

  4. No you haven't done the spoilerslip again, that was just a cheeky little reminder, naughty me :tong: Good thing you got your copy of Coffin Dancer! I'm looking forward to reading it too. And Bone Collector is on TV tonight :D

Don't talk about old hostels! I saw a document about Nathan Coleman, the American who shot a police officer in Leeds and then ran off. He went to stay at a B&B in Gateshead in a very quiet place. He was the only guest at the B&B and the receptionist was all alone working that night. She thought he seemed a bit creepy when he was signing in and after he'd gone to his room she was reading the paper and saw his face in the paper, realizing that the murderer was right there in a room above her. She called the manager who called the police and then locked herself in a room and had to just wait for the police. Oh my god I would've been so scared!!

Sorry, this was probably not a good story to tell you, I'm sure your hostel is much more comfortable and uneventful!!

  5. Helloooo Mac, I just thought I'd come here and tell you I bought Iain Banks's The Crow Road. It didn't seem to include any elements of fantasy from what I read from the blurb but it sounded interesting enough. Any thoughts on that one?

  6. I'm not surprised that it's difficult to find somewhere to take lessons on Swedish in Canada :( But as you're so motivated yourself and keep up with it it's good. I'm sure you've know of Astrid Lindgren's children's books. Have you read any of them? The ones I've read are brilliant :)

If you visit Sweden it would be so easy to come to Finland for a visit! Just take the cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki, they're great! :D Helsinki is a beautiful city in the summer (the only big cities I've been to are Helsinki and Copenhagen so I really wouldn't know better). I live in Joensuu which is about 500 kilometers from Helsinki to the Nort-East so it isnt' very close.

  7. BF's taking a shower so I can manage a quick message ;) I understand your system on supporting Sweden if it's Sweden vs anyone else but I do not understand why you're so torn about who to support when it's your own country vs Sweden: if it's Finland vs Sweden I most definitely support Finland and am really pissed off if Sweden wins. It's such a bittersweet thing. As you probably know Finland used to belong to Sweden but then became independent and now it's a kind of a love&hate relationship. Sort of. But if Finland doesn't win gold (which we haven't done since 1995 which was the best year ever!) I'd be happy to see Sweden win the championship.

I think we need to have a thread for this when it's time for this year's tournament :smile2: I bet at least ii would also have things to say about this...

  8. I could talk about icehockey and Sweden for a very very long time, but BF is waiting for me in the livingroom so I must go (he's leaving tomorrow to his hometown so it's our last night together for a while). I'll get back to you tomorrow, have a nice evening! :)

  9. Your family and your 5 year old niece adoring him means that he's definitely a keeper. And he must be good with kids if she likes him that much! Which leads to me thinking that he'll come around to having a baby sooner or later. Just you wait :)

Oooh I saw Sarapepparkaka's message, I knew you were a Sweden fan but didn't know you spoke Swedish! Where did you learn that? Do you also support the Swedish team in icehockey during the world championships?? I hate it when they win over Finland, although I have to admit that they're damn good and I don't mind them winning over USA.

  10. Yep yep! Besides toyboy keeps you young in many, many ways :giggle:

  11. Oh that is a problem. It's easier for men cause they can conceive whenever no matter how old they are but women don't have that luxury. I sure know what you mean, I'm not ready to have a baby yet but I'm starting to contemplate the whole deal and I just know that my BF won't be ready for many many years I think. So I already worry about that stuff and I'm "only" 27... But you never know, miracles do happen and men can surprise us and suddenly mention that it might be nice to give it a go... :)

  12. Plus, it's not like you're 16 and he's 12... Now that would be pretty disturbing.

  13. I saw Ceinwenn's comment, we could start our own social group called "I+toyboy=true" or something :D

I thought I'd mention that I saw your discussion on book activity thread and yep let's do The Coffin Dancer first and then move onto The Vampire Lestat. And just so you know, there's no one stopping you from reading The Vampire Lestat at the same time, as long as you wait a bit for me to join in on the commenting. And hon, use the spoilertags

Ooooh that trip to Netherlands sounds so great! And your project sounds quite devilish, you'll be easily able to combine work with leisure :D Just remember to check out how much your luggages are allowed to weigh on the trip back to UK in advance so you won't overdo it... I wonder if they have bookshops with English books...

Have a safe trip and have fun!!! :D

  14. I was about to leave Nicola a message on her profile page and couldn't help but notice your own toyboy comment  Younger BF's are great, at least they're virile... :tong:

  15. Haa, my BF is also younger than me! He's 25 and I'm 27 so I know what it's like to have a younger BF. I don't think there are any problems, it would be different if we were still in our teens.

I already started Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie but it's a short and quick read so I'll be able to move on quickly. I'm going to the library in a while to get The Coffin Dancer since it's there and am probably going to start it next. Yep we should definitely do mini bookclubs on Deaver! But would you already be up for The Coffin Dancer?

I'm glad you liked Interview with the Vampire :smile2: Yes it was a bit heavy at times, especially after Louis and Claudia left Lestat behind but otherwise it was brill! I also had to get The Vampire Lestat for myself so I guess we could do mini book club on that one too :D It's like girls living together, they start to be in sync with their periods - we on the forum are in sync with the books we read!

  16. Haahaa!! Just be warned, Carcassonne is extremely addictive! The first time I played it online (the name is Toulouse on the internet) I spent 10 hours with it (taking breaks only to eat/"powder my nouse"/do dishes). Scrabble's good too, though I hate it if there's no dictionary available. I study English at the uni and so people expect me to know every single effing word in English and give me **** if I don't :irked: Mini-league system sounds interesting though

  17. I think my teens were totally awkward enough as it were, without having to find videos of myself on youtube. There were times when I was so shy and clumsy and scared of what people might think or talk about me, the possibility of ending up on youtube would have made it more difficult to cope with. I think the teens of today have it really hard, no wonder there's more people with depression and other mental conditions :( (It's embarrasing enough to read my teen diaries just by myself!!)

So now you got your autumn already? Must be really weird having miniseasons  There's no way one can get a tan there. I've never heard anything good about the English weather though. I think umbrellas are the everyday accessories there.

  18. 3436, how did you manage that! I don't really know what's been happening, I'm still kinda off forum mode  I think I have to cut down on playing Carcassonne... Ooooh and I read my first ever Jeffery Deaver, The Bone Collector. I'm so glad I didn't start with The Broken Window because I just became a huge Deaver fan, he's the ****! I wasn't particularly pleased with Rhyme because I just found him really annoying and I didn't exactly fall in love with Sacks either, but I found their chemistry interesting and definitely want to read the books in order :smile2: I was mostly impressed with the plot and the twists in the end. I really really didn't know who the real murderer was, I was betting on a totally different person.

What you been reading? Anything interesting?

Oh and by the way, I think you two look cute together :D

Now I'm off to the forum, gonna read Jeffery Deaver threads :smile2:

  19. I hope you had great hols at your BF's parent's, it seemed like it because of the weather. I'm so jealous :smile2: BF was here for the Easter, and we've left the appartment only for food shopping (shop is within 200 metres), otherwise we've just been watching TV and spending time on the computer (he's studying computer science so he's also working, I'm playing Carcassonne) + reading. Which leads me to Carcassonne which is a popular board game from Germany, it's been Board Game of the Year here in Finland and elsewhere too. I'm not gonna go into details, you can check it out in wikipedia if you're interested :)

I saw the Alice wannabe video on youtube and it felt weird.. I mean teens do things that seem weird to the rest of us, but I'm so glad that I grew up in a time when there was no internet to broadcast my stupid actions on. Sometimes I'm disgusted with how easy it is to embarrass a friend or an enemy in front of the whole world nowadays, before there were smaller audiences.

  20. Hiay! I'm good, just post-Easter bloated. Haven't left the house for what seems like ages, and have been just eating, watching TV, playing Carcassone online and reading. What have you been up to? I just discovered Jeffery Deaver's writing skills, I've been trying to find out which one of his books have been translated into Finnish, he uses a lot of technical jargon and it would be a bit more difficult to read him in English.

  21. Actually I haven't read Hunchie yet and I voted for it cause I've got it on my bookshelf to read at some point. Had forgotten about it though, but I'm thinking if others are reading it too I'll be more motivated to start it :)

  22. Awww, such a lovely dog! :D Is that your own dog? Welcome to the forum by the way! :)

  23. What, only 3406 posts? That should keep you busy for a while. Why, you could take a lovely little break from the moving, have a nice cuppa and spend some quality time in the forum. Since you hate moving so much!! I guess I'm the only one with my friend K who actually love moving, we've been there to help each other move a couple of times and it's so much fun with her cause she likes it too. We've joked about putting up a little moving firm ourselves

Camping might be fun but involuntary camping in a house because of the lack of a kitchen sink does not sound like fun. It must be so rewarding having things coming around finally! Not to mention the internet!! I wonder what people used to do in the 'good old days' before the internet and the TV. What, like, read??! :tong: I know I know, we love our reading but we also love talking about it and chatting with nice people and now that we've found our place to do it, reading just doesn't feel the same without popping in at BCF!

  24. Sorry for posting so many messages but I almost forgot to ask: I noticed your new profile pic and was wondering if that's you with your BF in the pic. (Well I'm quite positive it's you cause the face matches the other pic you had here before!)

  25. I think I'm glad I missed the Twilight discussion, I'm a bit tired of people swooning over Robert Pattison (or whatshisname). I haven't seen the movie and quite frankly I don't know if I ever will thanks to the forum :)

But well... just out of curiosity, what about the deleted scenes?? (I might have to take a peek at the thread after all...)

Haahaa, good old ii  She's one of a kind she is! (Well, she's part Finnish which explains it ... :tong:)

We were already getting into the spring mode here, the snow melting from driveways and all but now it's snowing again :irked: It's quite warm though so it won't probably stay. I just realised yesterday that I have no excuses for taking up jogging again, cause it seems that the roads aren't slippery enough for my jogging shoes anymore...

Now I'm off to read the 1141 unread posts on this forum... might take a while :D
