  1. You know you'd think men weren't into periods but in my experience they're almost more interested in mooncups than women are! All the men have been interested in the technicalities of the thing and think it's a good idea, while women are either not interested, ready to puke in a second and pleading for me to stop talking, or they already know the product and use it. One of my male friends had even considered buying the thing for her GF when I mentioned the mooncup  But I guess I'll probably not make a thread out of it... I'm quite comfortable with my current, neutral and non-existing reputation

  2. I didn't take pictures because these people are students and they're really shameless! While I'd never do what they did last night and I find their behavior embarrassing (if I did it) I know these people don't mind doing anything!! There are like 5 000 students in Lappeenranta and most of them live in this neighborhood so the police probably won't even bother trying to do something as long as nobody's getting violent or something like that. Believe me, if this happened in the center of the town in a normal weekend they'd get arrested! And you know what, BF told me that the students here have been precelebrating Vappu for 2 weeks here, last night was just the culmination of the festivities. I bet people have the hangovers of their lives... :icon_eek:

  3. I've been busy with packing+travelling to see BF and celebrating Mayday (a big hol in Finland) so haven't had time to reply earlier. How was your presentation? (I hate them, I get very nervous weeks beforehand :( Once I had to do a presentation with my pair in Swedish for 40-50 people in a huge lecture hall, that was awful.) At least you're done with it and the weekend's ahead! Any plans? I hope you have some time off for yourself, you've been really busy for a while now!!

Making Waves series is getting along great, I think I'm in the 5th book. Really easy+relaxing reads. Although I have to say that it's a bit weird, this girl's in a relationship but as soon as there's another good looking guy who looks at her and is in some kinda trouble she seems to get all mothery on him and falls in love with him in like two days and is really torn. And it wasn't the first time either. Was it really like this in our teens, or is this just what the writer thinks people want to read??

  4. Do you think I should have my own member's thread about periods and being in sync? You know with the mooncups and all?

  5. Your brother sounds great, just about the best there could be. It must be so great to actually have a brother you're really close to and not just by obligation but because you really get along. It's kinda funny, I never understood my friend who's really close to his brother and she never really gets how I'm not. Like it just doesn't make any sense in my head that something like that could actually happen in the world.

I agree, just because people share blood they don't have to socialise if they don't want to. I just wish other people would understand this too and try not to make others feel guilty for not loving their relatives. I think it's so stupid to maintain the traditions and family gatherings even if everyone knows no one's enjoying them. People should just mind their own business and leave other people to choose who they want to spend their time with!! I'm glad that you had the courage to "break up" with your OH's family because it was obviously good for you.

  6. Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with packing+travelling to see BF and I've been in a festive mood, 1st of May is a holiday in Finland and the eve of Mayday is probably the biggest drinking fest for Finns after Midsummernight ;) We had a quiet evening ourselves though but BF lives in the biggest+noisiest student appartment "village" in Lappeenranta and I've never seen anything like it before. When I came here there was actually a minisauna in the yard (fit for 1-2 people at a time), people were drunk and I'm not lying, there was this one guy totally naked except for his graduation cap (the Finnish thing to wear during the eve of Mayday) and maybe shoes, and he was peeing quite happily around the yard, not even using his hands to direct his pee machine, and there was another naked guy hosing him with a water hose. The gayeties went on for 5 am I think.

  7. I'm sorry to hear that :( Friendships can be real tricky sometimes. I hope you can clear things out with your friend because they wouldn't be our dear friends if they weren't worth the effort. :friends0:

  8. frankie

Klara vappen, bara vatten!! ;) Have a jolly good vappu! :D

  9. That's a lot of brothers+sisters! I'm so jealous, I've only got an older brother with whom I don't get along at all, we're fighting every time we see each other and nowadays I'm trying to avoid seeing him. I hope you get along better with your siblings! Of course you weren't spoiled because you turned out fine!! :D I can't even begin to imagine what it was like to lose your Dad, I'm so sorry to hear he died :( You still have your dear memories of him though, they'll help you keep him closer (which of course is not the same thing but you know what I mean).

Yeah I know the pics are from the old house but from what I saw in those pics I gathered that the new house is going to be swell too :smile2:

Yeah I know, we seem to be reading same books. The same thing's happening with Nicola too and I just told her the other day that it's like women living together; they'll start having their periods in sync, and here in BCF we seem to be in sync with what we're reading at the mo :D

  10. Hiya Tiger!

Where have you been, I haven't seen you around in what feels like ages! How are you? Getting into the summer mode already? :) It' quite cold here in Finland right now and it's really windy and it seems like it's going to rain sometime soon, brrrhhh! I hope it'll get warmer soon :)

  11. Yep, a man of few words sounds very familiar. Sometimes I wish my family was a bit more vocal about things (so maybe I'd be better at expressing my feelings as well) but I guess I just have to accept the way they are. At least I know they really mean the things they say, when they rarely say something :) And don't get me wrong, I love my family and I'm such a Daddy's little girl

Oh I'd love to see pictures of your house! From the few pictures I've seen of Piper I've noticed the backround as well so I know you really do decorate and have things in order! The word immaculate keeps playing in my head in this context  Immaculate taste!

Oh you haven't read the Sookie S books yet? I thought you had. They sound great and are on my TBR too. I've already bought the 1st book in the series. 8 books is a lot but I think they're quick reads if they're as enjoyable as people keep saying. And they're not the thickest of books either so I guess it's okay you read them now :D

  12. We started at 10 AM and worked through til 6 PM (minus the time we spend eating and a couple of breaks), and my Dad and I did all the moving ourselves because Mum has a bad back so she did the cleaning. And two of my male cousins came for an hour to carry the heaviest things like the sofas, the TV's and refrigerator. I was so beat after that, my shins are still hurting everytime I use the stairs  But I'm so proud of myself because I managed through all that. And I was so pleased when Dad said he sure hadn't thought we'd be able to finish in one day and he said that because I was so determined to do it, he became determined too. That's the closest to a compliment I'll ever hear from my Dad and it sure felt good to hear something like that :smile2: (Our family isn't communicative at all when it comes to our feelings or such)

  13. I noticed your latest post in the LR thread and thought I'd pop in here to say hello! What's that 8 book bookring you're talking about? :icon_eek: Sounds demanding! Bloody hell!

How've you been? Is the house already completely finished? And have I missed anything on the forum? I spent the weekend at my parents, their old appartment was repaired after the water accident and now we had to move their stuff back to the old appartment. My parents initially thought they'd do the moving throughout the whole week and I could help as much as I could but I said the hell with it, I'm here now and I'm gonna work my butt off and we'll do it in 1 day. Mum kept saying there's no way we'll pull that off and it would be better to split the task for various days. Dad initially agreed with her but he did say that maybe it would be better to try to do as much as possible in one day (Sunday) because he's a plumber and it's very physical work and he doesn't feel like doing any moving after a day at work.

  14. I have to admit though that I'm glad you still haven't finished the book because I've only read about 50 pages of The Vampire Lestat. Plus I was visiting my parents this weekend and went to the local library in which I practically grew up and I borrowed my favorite teen romance fiction from my teenage years, Katherine Applegate's Making Waves -series. Very nostalgic :smile2: There are 7 books of those and I want to read them immediately, but luckily they're all very quick reads.

The Swedish vampire book we were talking about (I can't remember the name at the mo) was in English so there you go :) I wonder when I have the time to read it... so many books, so little time...

Ahh, I see I said I posted in the Deaver thread but I meant the Lincoln Rhyme thread. Ceinwenn read it already too and loved it even though she'd read it before. Charm's getting quite keen on it too, I think she's reading The Bone Collector at the mo.

Good luck with the presentation tomorrow! :)

  15. Good to have you back :D

Sounds like you had a great trip! Although I have to wonder whether Holland has any style at all since you didn't find anything at all except for that broach!! I guess their notion of recreation does not include shopping for anything other than the good ole ganja ;) And at least you saved money, I don't know about Britain but in Finland it's dead expensive to learn how to drive. I was lucky to grow up in a small town where it was cheaper than in the bigger cities. You are going to have so much fun this summer, learning how to drive!! :smile2:

I already finished The Coffin Dancer and posted about it in the Deaver thread. It was incredible! I didn't think Deaver could top The Bone Collector but this one was even better! I so want to read the third Lincoln Rhyme novel soon, I already ordered it online :) Now don't you go reading the spoilers!! I hope you have the chance to finish it soon, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  16. Nicola, guess what! I went to a bookshop today just to browse, but then oh my! I happened to find Let The Right One In as a book!! :icon_eek: I just had to buy it because it's a vamp book and it's a Swedish novel (I love everything Nordic). When I have the time to read it, I'll let you know how I liked it, and please do the same for me with the movie, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's popular and they'll show it for another week so you can go see it!

How you doing with Holland and The Coffin Dancer? I'm really engrossed in the book but I haven't had the time to finish it yet :irked: I haven't written about it much yet on the thread because I wasn't quite sure if we should use the Lincoln Deaver thread or start up a new one for that particular book.

  17. Hi Nicola! I hope you're settling nicely in Holland! Remember, you've got a whole week, don't spend all your money today :smile2:

I'm glad your Mom's doing better, meds do really help. I wish meds didn't have such a bad reputation, my Mom seemed really panicky when I told her I'm going to start medication. "Don't start eating them too much!" Like, what..? Meds have really helped me too, and I'm so much better from what I was 2 years ago.

Why would people drop out of a trip to Holland?? By the way, do you have to pay for the trip yourself or do you get some kind of sponsoring for it?

I started The Coffin Dancer last night and managed about 80 pages of it, and I'm eager to continue reading today :D

    Have a great day! :D

  18. You'll be alright as long as you are prepared to read Good Wives in succession. I wish you luck with the task :D

  19. I'm really bad at recognising different dialects but I love them all the same. I might not always understand what people are saying but I love the sound of different accents anyway. We had a course on cockney a few years ago, that was fun. Don't remember much about it though. If I'll come to work in a region that has a very distinct dialect I suppose I'd need to find the kind of job that doesn't involve me talking to local people  I think I'd be in trouble in Newcastle :D My accent/dialect leans more towards the American accent and I feel most comfortable with it but I have to admit that as soon as I'm talking to a Brit I tend to mimic their accent and it happens quite unconsciously.

  20. To be quite honest I'm absolutely terrified of the idea of going abroad to work. The idea of having to organise the whole thing (the job, the living arrangements) all by myself seems overwhelming. I'm also in a point in my life where I lack self-confidence so much and feel so incompetent and incapable of doing anything, that I have no idea how I'm going to do all this. (I suffer from depression at the mo which effects things) I know that it's the opportunity of a lifetime and I'll surely enjoy myself when I get there but I'm dreading the whole thing beforehand =/

I'm quite decided on coming to England though, and one of the reasons is that it's closest and cheapest to travel to and of course I'm interested in the country itself. Other than that I don't know, I'm quite open for different locations. I guess the location doesn't matter as long as I get a decent job somewhere.

  21. I remember googling Gateshead while I searched for Coleman for more details and I do remember it being near Newcastle upon Tyne so I thought it might be pretty close to your town but I had no idea it was that close! You were actually there when the police caught the guy?? That must've been so creepy when you found out about it. I would've **** my pants. I just cannot believe that woman had the courage to stay in the house, I would've just ran off. I'm just glad it all turned out okay. And I'm glad there are 5 other girls so you'll be safe. I wonder if you'll get any time to read at all, you might end up going out all night long :tong:

I do hope that you get your student loan in time so you can do at least some shopping. Maybe you should leave some of your money with Ross so you cannot spend everything :D

  22. It's no use, my copy is in Finnish and he prefers reading in English, especially if it's one of his favorite authors. But I guess that's good news for me, he won't be hogging it for himself:mrgreen:

  23. Oh Nicola, I regret posting about Coleman! I hope I didn't scare you :(

  24. Oh sheesh, I thought Iain M Banks was for scifi and Iain Banks was for fantasy. Although now that I think about it, there was nothing fantastic in The Wasp Factory. Oh well :) I think I might enjoy it all the same. BF hasn't read it yet so he's of no use on this one :)

  25. No problem! I was very confused myself when I read Little Women because I expected some things to happen (because I'd seen the movie) and those things didn't happen at all. Then I decided to read the sequel Good Wives and realised that it was usually incorporated in Little Women and that the movie included both of those novels. Very confusing!
