A thousand splendid suns - a better read I think than the Kite Runner, although as you say very similar

After reading one Sheila Quigley book, I will never ever make that mistake in future! I also avoid misery memoirs. I find them all very similar, and as distressing as the experiences surely must have been to the authors, I just don't get anything out of reading them.
I agree with Ruth especially the books that include child abuse. They are just too distressing and yet I know alot of people like this type of fiction.

I guess I may have a long wait for The Return by Victoria Hislop then. I prefer to buy books in paperback and the library has 43 requests for it!

I was looking at this yesterday. It would be good to read more about india, but it doesn't sound like such a good read now.
I have just finished reading this book and really enjoyed it. I never look for any mistakes in the text, just enjoyed the story.

I was wondering if anybody knows how long it is before the paperback comes out following a hardback. Do some publishers skip the hardback and go straight into paperback?

Redbush (rooibos) tea is an acquired taste. I have been drinking it for a few years now and have it with rice milk, as I don't drink ordinary milk. If I ever drink ordinary tea now it seems very weak and bitter!

Where did the expression "chick lit" come from anyway? I also find some of them are real page turners and should be up there with some of the classics!

I was just wondering how everybody chooses their next book to read - do you read one off your TBR pile or get tempted by a new book just bought?
I have about 50 on my TBR pile but have just succumbed to buying two new books from the charts!

Is it as long as her other one, as I felt it did go on a bit!
Yes Inver it is quite a long book - over 600 pages, but I think it is better than her first.

I finished this book last week. I don't normally like books that jump from one year to another and found it hard going to start with, but in the end it turned out to be very good with a surprising ending!

Thank you everyone for your welcome.

Just found this site tonight. I love reading and sometimes have three books on the go at once. I am currently reading East of the Sun by Julia Gregson and Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir.
Anybody reading The Return?

Is anybody reading the Return by Victoria Hislop? I am half way through this and I must say it is not as good as The Island.
