I have spoken to the new job and accepted the offer. The Manager where I am then also knows, as do the other Housekeepers - our Handyman wanted to know if there might be a job for him as he is as fed up with being there as I am, and I said I would put in a good work. I have to go there then tomorrow to fill in all the forms and get the ball rolling for my CRB. Once that comes through I cam give them a months notice. It's just a matter of waiting then now.

Thanks everyone - I didn't realise how many friends I had on here, or on facebook for that matter. Tomorrow then is the big day when I have to let them all know at work. I have been walking around there all day today with an insane grin on my face - I am sure they were all wondering what I was on and wishing they could have some ! I will have to though let my Manager know in the morning and ring the new job during my tea break to make arrangements to go down there and fill in all the forms, and ask them about the CRB, whether they want me to give my notice in now or wait for the new one to come through. I am easy either way, although it would be nice in some ways to wait so that I can start after Christmas. I will have to though see what they say. I am celebrating two things tonight then - the new job and the jackets I have just bought on ebay - a top quality waterproof with matching zip in fleece for £49 - normally they are worth mroe than £300. God has certainly smiled on me these past few days - and if I might say so it's about time too !

Love it - it reminds me of a few people I know (minus the wrinkles) ...

Holding Back the Years - Simply Red -
I got the job ! :jump: I was at work about 1pm today having just finished the laundry when one of the nurses came and found me and told me that Coran had rung and to ring her back. When I did, she told me that a letter had arrived offering me the job. I am absolutely ecstatic and over the moon ! I didn't realise in fact how much I wanted this and how important it was to me, and had to go and sit down for a few minutes to compose myself ! I have to then ring them on Monday to accept the offer (the administrator isn't there today) and to arrange a time to come in and fill in all the various forms - CRB, bank details and so on. I also need to check whether they want me to wait until the new CRB comes through before handing in my notice, or if they are happy for me to start using the one I already have. If so, then I might be handing in my notice on Monday ! The other housekeepers are not going to be happy, but I know I am !

You and me both - the home looks great with no nasty smells, and I could tell straight away when I walked through the door that it is a lot more relaxed. I had a long chat with both the Manager and Administrator and was then shown around the home. There were some interesting questions about coping with negativity and so on though that did make me wonder, but I don't think if there is any it can possinly be worse than where I already am ! The fact that this is a charity and non profit making tells me pretty much everything that I need to know, as the focus will be on the welfare of the staff and residents as opposed to the Directors bank balance ... The housekeepers I am told have just had a 4 percent pay rise, which is more than I have had for 3 1/2 years, and there are all sorts of bonusses and other things that bring the pay up to more than I am getting here. It is not of course all about money, but this will compensate for the fact that it is slightly less hours. The fact that it is a later start at 8.30 rather than 7am will make a huge difference also, and no doubt my levels of knackeredness - I will be able to start going out in the evenings again as I won't have to get up at 6am every day. All in all, no matter which way I look at if I am offered this I will be so much better off in every way. They said I should know either tomorrow or Monday, so all I can do I guess is wait.

No, we read both paper and e-books here, a book is a book after all - it is still the same words whether they are on paper or not !

Stuck in the Middle With You - Stealers Wheel -
My interview is at 9.30 this morning - I am up early and have prepared a long list of questions. Having read their latest inspection report and spoken to at least one person who used to work there, it all looks and sounds good, so fingers crossed ! I don't expect to be offered it on the spot, as I know there are other candidates, but I should be able to get at least some idea.

9.30 on Thursday morning. I asked the Director today when I am going to get a reply to my letter which I handed in 6 weeks ago asking for a rise. His response was that his wife deals with this sort of thing, and that we shall have to arrange a meeting. He doesn't know about my meeting with the other home on Thursday, so I am looking forward to his response if I do get it ... I know that he does have the money as our soon to be ex Manager informed me that she when told him about her own resignation he offered to meet her new employers offer - he is then one seriously sad and desperate man ! He no doubt realises that the CQC do not like too many changes of Management in too short a time, and he doesn't want them sniffing round, as the staff might just tell them what he gets up to ...

Don't You Want Me - Human League -
I have the day from absolute hell and an absolute gutful of work - to be honest, if I didn't need the money I would have just walked out today and left them too it, I really did feel that fed up. I got to work today to be told that both of the other housekeepers who were to be on duty (one in the kitchen and one housekeeping) were sick. That left me to do the whole bloody lot - cleaning the rooms and the rest of the house, doing all the laundry and all the kitchen work all on my own. I know that it was bad luck that 2 people were both sick at the same time, but to my mind this situation it not due to that, it is due to the fact that they do not have enough staff in the first place - if they had 2 kitchen assistants, instead of relying on us housekeepers on the Kitchen Assistants days off, then this sort of thing would not happen. It makes me so mad as carers would never be expected to work in this way, they would get agency staff in to help, but not with us. We are not important enough for that, but we are important enough to moan at when there are a few specks of dust. All of this has just reinforced the fact that I have made absolutely the right choice to get out of there. As far as I am concerned, it can't come a day too soon.

I somehow doubt it - 99p wouldn't fund much at all.
-
I haven't finished it yet, but will try and post one when I do !
-
I am reading something somewhat heavier - the memoirs of Osama Bin Laden's wife (first) and son (fourth). Actually its one of the most interesting books I've read all year, and it only cost me 99p.
-
I am currently around 50 percent through my 53rd book of the year, so working on the average for the year of one book every 5-6 days should be able to get through another 8 or 9 before the year is out, which should take me to around 61 or 62 books. This is at least a 100 percent increase on last year, so not bad at all.

I thought the same thing ! I am just about to go and read their inspection report on the CQC website ...

Good for you Muggle - I too have made a decision regarding my work this week - namely that it is time for me to move on. The news that our Manager has yet again resigned has precipitated it - this will be our third Manager now in 18 months. The fact that the Director has still not replied to my letter asking for a pay rise (after 6 weeks) is also a factor, as is the fact that one of the carers has twice this week had a go at me for what she terms "getting in her way", when all I was trying to do was my own job. In short, I have had enough of it, and so when I got home on Wednesday after having made the decision I got straight online to see what was out there. I found a housekeeping job in another home the closing date for which was that very day, so I sent my application off and while I was at work today they rang me to arrange an interview! With a bit of luck, I will soon then be telling my bully boss where he can stick it !

Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With Dragon Tattoo books - the outfit I would choose would be the one she wears in the court scene during the Swedish version of the final film from the trilogy (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest). I am not sure if I could walk in those boots mind you, but it would raise a few eyebrows !
