Hi Pixie!
Have you read The Count of Monte Cristo before? It's one of my favourite books. I have The Three Musketeers on my pile of books waiting to be read. I'm a big fan of Dickens to, but I've only read a few of his books to date. I hope you're settling in well and enjoying the forum.

Hi Pontalba,
It's great to see you around the forum a bit more lately.
I taped a documentary on 'Being John Banville' last night; I always like to learn about the background of my favourite authors. And I finally ordered a copy of Ghosts which I'm hoping will arrive today. It's been far too long since I read either Nabokov or Banville. Have you read anything by the latter written as Benjamin Black?
I like your profile photo. You look very cool - just how I pictured you. (I hope that's not a weird thing to say .)
Oh, and after looking at your bookshelf pics (particularly the shelves built into the closet), I started measuring up my own wardrobes to see what I can do.
Cheers,
Kylie

Hi Sara. I hope you're feeling well. I saw you are heading back to work next year. That's good news! I'm sure you'll get back into the swing of things in no time and it will feel as though you never left. (You are going back to the same job, right?)
I've been meaning to ask you about your user name. Does pepperkaka mean gingerbread cookie or something similar?

Hi SBW, I'm well thanks. How are you? Friendship accepted!
I haven't seen Capote yet. I didn't even realise I had it on DVD until the other day. I was very excited when I discovered it I might watch it this weekend.

Hi Timmy! Haven't seen you around for a while but wanted to wish you a very happy birthday. I hope you have a great day!

Hi Val! Is that Kerouac in your pic?
I like old music mostly. I have a very big thing for The Beatles, and pretty much anything from the 60s. I like anything older than that as well: Frank Sinatra, Elvis etc. I was definitely born in the wrong decade!

I don't mind sad romantic movies. I love The Notebook but don't watch it often because it makes me cry too much. Isn't PS I Love You another one by Nicholas Sparks?
I love romcoms like When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle etc. I love a lot of old movies as well. Today I watched The Greatest Show on Earth and I bought The Grapes of Wrath the other day which I can't wait to watch (I read the book last year).

I have officially moved in today . I spent the day going back and forth with my parents moving my stuff. We put together a few bookcases and my TV stand, but I don't have my TV connected yet. I think I now have every single book I own in my new place, except the one I'm currently reading, which I somehow misplaced in all the hubbub .
I've been pottering about, putting things away and trying to clean up some of the mess. I still have a lot more to bring over from Mum and Dad's - I don't know how I ever managed to fit so much stuff into one tiny bedroom!
My Dad's friend was supposed to come today to give us a quote on the air conditioners but he didn't show (that, or we missed him in between moving stuff). I have another quote for $400 though so I'll probably go with that.

I only have an hour left . I don't really have any plans to do anything other than read. I'm really pleased that my current read is going quickly and I should finish it tonight so hopefully I'll start GwtW tomorrow. I'm really excited but also a bit scared because it's just so big. And I plan on starting Macbeth for the reading circle too.
I'm still on for Hawaii! It's not quite as hot here as it has been. I think we have a few days of rain coming up so that will keep the temp down a bit hopefully. I hope it rains all weekend. That would give me a perfect excuse to stay inside and read all day long!

I'd probably cry a lot if I watched RSPCA. I'm such a softy. But yes, it's nice to see people being kind to other things. Sometimes I despair for the lack of kindness in the world, so I'm always glad to be proven wrong.
I think you're referring to the Melbourne bushfires of last year. It was really terrible. So many people died and their communities are only just beginning to be rebuilt. There was a lovely photo that was widely published at the time where a firefighter was holding a bottle of water out to a koala. It was really touching.
The size of TCPatW put me off for a while too. That's the great thing about reading books from the Rory list with others. I have already knocked two huge books of my TBR pile so far this year. I'm pretty sure you'll read TCPatW fairly quickly once you get started. It really sucks you in. I can't wait to hear what you think of it!
