  1. He did one book but for the life of me I can't remember the title but it was a prequal where Reacher was back in the Army. I really liked that one, it helped him develop in my mind. I'd like to see a few more like that. And bring back neagley lol
  2. Yeah I agree. I do hope he doesn't go the way of Colin Forbes. That guy brings out a book a year and I've read about 15 of them and they're all almost exactly the same. I don't see why people still buy them.
  3. I've read all his Jack Reacher books and I think they're great. He's one of the few authors I activly keep surveillance on to check for new books.
  4. Obviously the fact the curator's body is posed as the Vitruvian Man and has a Pentacle (pre christian symbol relating to the Goddess Venus) plays a large part in pointing th eplot in the right direction.
  5. As the resident Archeologist. This symbol, combining a Fleur De Lis with some loops and triangles, is a fictitious logo of the so-called "Priory of Sion," a hoax organization created by would be royal Pierre Plantard, apparently for purposes of self-aggrandizement. Made famous by the DaVinci Code and "Holy Blood, Holy Grail," the Priory of Sion is supposedly a secret fraternal order that protects the descendents of Jesus and Mary M. Plantard is rumored to have snuck forged documents relating to this 'organization' into France's Bibliothèque Nationale, including a fantastic list if "Grand Masters" that included painter Leonardo DaVinci and novelist Victor Hugo amongst other luminaries of art, music, and literature. The aim of these creations appeared to be to establish Plantard as a lost son of royalty, and was just one of Plantard's many weird projects. There was once a real "Priory of Sion," a monastic order which may have links with the Knights Templar- but the historical record is extraordinarily vague, and there is no evidence of their survival beyonth the thirteenth century.
  6. When I got home last night all I had left was a bottle of Bucks Fizz. It was lovely

    My Town

Tewkesbury is a historic town in Gloucestershire, England. It stands at the confluence of the River Severn and the River Avon, and also minor tributaries the Swilgate and Carrant Brook. It gives its name to the district of Tewkesbury. The name Tewkesbury comes from the name of a Saxon who founded a hermitage there in the seventh century, Theoc, and in the Saxon tongue was called Theocsbury.
  8. I'm not going to dare type "'How Babies Are Made" into Google. (I know better now ) But do you think those kind of books are more marketing ploys rather than meant to actually be read?
  9. Lol one of the best books I ever saw had a "liquid" cover that felt like blood.
  10. Ok I managed to finish most of these. Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz. Really really liked this one. Felt the ending was quite good but in my opinion it needed to be dragged out a little more. I think I'd figured out how it was going to end quite early into the book but it didn't detract from the story. The Protector - David Morell Again one I really liked. Good strong story and I really clicked with the way it was written. My only criticism of this book is that there is no sequal Sins Of The Blood - Kirstine Kathryn Rusch Meh, it was OK. I don't feel it lived up to all the Amazon hype and I actually got a bit bored reading it. Daemonic - Stephen Laws Didn't get a chance to finish this one. But the start was strong and I've been digging it out of my bag and reading it when I get a chance. Overall I'd have to reccomend Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz because I feel it'd be best suited to this audience. Romance, horror, realistic people and some parts made me chuckle.
  11. Well I get through books at quite a quick rate. Today I'm reading: Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz. Adult/High School-Odd Thomas is just that. He works as a fry cook in the fictional California town of Pico Mundo. Should he ever leave that position, he sees a future in selling tires or shoes. What he lacks in ambition, he makes up for with a special gift. He communes with and sees the dead, some of whom enlist his help in avenging their deaths from foul play. His gift is a secret from everyone except his beautiful girlfriend and the Chief of Police, who never questions Odd's tips, advice, or presence at a murder scene. Quite like this one. Odd is quite a likable guy and seems to know and be happy with his place in the world. I'll be looking for the sequals. The Protector - David Morell Biochemist Daniel Prescott creates a drug that is supposed to help stop addiction, but instead is rumored to provide an incredibly addictive rush by stimulating the body producing adrenaline. Fearing that undesirables will harm him to get at his creation, Daniel hires Global Protective Services, a security firm not squeamish about crossing legal barriers. Former Delta Force commando Cavanaugh serves as the lead "protector" to keep the client safe from the Feds, foreign governments, and drug kings. However, Cavanaugh gets a taste of the elixir, but loathes the monstrous amount of fear he feels caused by the geometric stimulation of adrenaline. When his men die in a firefight that Daniel caused before the biochemist vanished, Cavanaugh assisted by his wife joins those seeking the missing scientist, but unlike the myriad of others in the chase he needs the antidote. Really REALLY liking this one. There are a lot of accurate details about the industry and I find it very well written and the lead is really one I'd like to read more about. Sins Of The Blood - Kirstine Kathryn Rusch Only read the first page but if the reviews I read on Amazon are anything to go by then buying it will be a double edge sword. The book, apparantly, is great but the author is hard to get hold of. Daemonic - Stephen Laws No one has seen Jack Draegerman for 20 years. He lives in a huge fortress known as "The Rock", its interior a crazy structure of labyrinthine, descending corridors, with no way out. But now he has summoned seven apparently unconnected men to visit him, and he's prepared to pay for the privilege Again another one I've only read the first chapter of (in Starbucks with a nice Mocha). But If the blurb is anything to go by it's the typical kind of book I enjoy and the cover is fantastic. I should finish those tonight so I'll let you know what they're like in the end and then update as to what new books I've got tomorrow.
  12. I'd suggest if you can get Circus of the Damned from the library then it'd be worth a whirl. I love all the Anita books but once you get towards the newer ones Anita seems to loose her common sense.
  13. Because they cost six times as much?
  14. I didn't fill out one of these but I will now. Age: 24 Starsign: Aquarius Single/Married/Other? Single Children? None Where do you live? In a house, a very big house in the country. Do you work? Yes, some kind of insurance fraud/bounty hunting gig Favourite author? Laurell K Hamilton Favourite book? Guilty Pleasures How did you get here? Google
  15. I'm fairly sure that'll cure anything though won't it?
  16. Last night I had a bottle of Domaine de Chevalier 2003. Wasn't too bad but a bit rich for my liking.

  19. First Published: 1995 ISBN: 0425197549 Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out who and why. Trust is a luxury Anita can't afford when her allies aren't human. The city's most powerful vampire, Nikolaos, is 1,000 years old and looks like a 10-year-old girl. The second most powerful vampire, Jean-Claude, is interested in more than just Anita's professional talents, but the feisty necromancer isn't playing along--yet. This popular series has a wild energy and humor, and some very appealing characters--both dead and alive. Guilty Pleasures introduces the character of Anita Blake Vampire Hunter and her world, an alternate history where magic, vampires, werewolves and other supernatural elements are known to exist. Blake, a zombie animator and licensed vampire executioner, is forced to investigate a series of vampire murders, and in the process comes into contact with many of the supernatural characters of her home city of Saint Louis. The novel blends elements of supernatural and detective fiction. My Thoughts: This book came before Buffy, Charmed and vampirism/paranormal stuff becaume massivly popular. This was one of the first books that showed me reading could be a pleasure. I find Anita Blake a well written and funny person. And the story moves along with quite good pace. A serial killer murdering vampires isn't something I've come across before and I loved the idea from the start. Half of me almost wants to wake up in her alternate world. This was one of those books I wanted all my friends to read and the kind I'd move to a better shelf position in book shops. This is the first of an ever growing series and I'd highly reccomend it to anyone who wants to become addicted to the books. 20. Merry Christmas.
  21. I happen to recall the time my office minion's found out someone was wearing a tie that was heald on by elastic (so the couldn't be strangled) the guy didn't get more than three steps without someone tugging it.
  22. I know if someone turned up in my secret organisation headquarters dressed like that they wouldn't even get a cup of coffee before half the office staff had ping'd them
  23. Quite upset nobody's given his braces a good old snap though.
  24. While I love the whole Torchwood thing I find myself screaming at the TV everytime they mess something up. In the pilot episode Owen was using some kind of alien date rape drug to get women that was a great start. The whole team thing seems to have gone downhill from there and it ends up with them all revolting against their leader and ending the world, after a fashion, then their esteemed leader saves the day and forgives their evil plotting then naffs off in a TARDIS. Needless to say I'm reading far too much into it. But Gwen's use of firearms after a night's training with Captain jack and the whole team's lack of basic firearms safety is bad. I know they have no official chain of command to report to and maybe this is the problem and reason they think they can cruise round the city trashin crime scenes and not following proper evidence custody requirements or even writing basic reports on things. Grr. Other than that I really like Captain Jack's coat
  25. I think I'm good with the ducking. At the end of the day though, my books and nobody else ever gets to touch them
