  1. Do you? I know you're not meant to but I always do. The cover of the book is the one thing that attracts me to it if I don't know the author.

So would you read a book with a dull cover?

I should add that as soon as I get anu hardback books home I throw the dust covers away anyway so it just ends up plain lol.

  2. For choosing what "races," I'd include, I just went with the ones I was most interested in. Vampires almost got left out because I really didn't feel I could add to the vampire myth, but I was persuaded to include them. Shamans I did include, then didn't find a lot of use for...as readers may have noticed.

Most of my rules decisions were based on boring practicality and realism. For example, with werewolves, if you needed a silver bullet to kill them, the logical part of me says "okay, so if they get flattened by a transport truck, do they just crawl away to heal? Wouldn't someone notice?" Or with the vampires, having them only out at night made things very inconvenient when I needed them working with other races--are the meetings only at night? can they only help at night? There is mythology with vampires who have no reaction to daylight, so I used that. In other cases, it was "which part of the legend interests me most or could provide the best plots."

Now Wraith I might get away with as a name. I recently tried to run a "get your name in the Otherworld" contest, only to discover that because I'd be running it from Canada, I hit all kinds of legal hurdles.

Thanks for your reply. What is your favourite race and, if you can tell us, what races would you have liked to introduce but couldn't.

One more, do you think that a secret world of supernatural beings could exist and if it did woud you want to know. (please note, I don't have any information that one does or anything, I'm just curious)

Please feel free to use my name and kill me in any way you want  alot of authors I've read recently have been auctioning off parts in their books to raise money for charity.

  3. I now have the new book in my possession, it is really not what I have come to expect from Anita, again she continues with her many lovers and in no way investigates or solves Preternatural crime.

The only saving grace is Edward, he makes a return. And hamilton has started to destroy him in my eyes, she is giving him feelings and showing us too much of what's inside.

I will post a short message to Laurell K:

    Dear Uncomprimising Author,

I have been a fan of your work since 1995, way back when nobody in the UK had heard of you. I spent ages encouraging people to read your books and moving them to prime locations in book stores. And I did it because I loved your work.

HOWEVER, your poorly written sexscenes, over complicated cast members and lack of real story is not doing you any favours.

Let me guess how your next book will go (because the last 4 have been exactly the same)

Anita is troubled, Richard doesn't like her sleeping with many men and animals, a big bad council member will come to town, there will eb endless pages describing mens hair and eyes, Anita will suffer at the hands of the ardure so badly that she has to sleep with a new species (I mean come on I was getting annoyed at her having sex with Wolves, Leopards, Lions and the like but MERMEN?!?!?! You'd never even mentioned they existed before book 13) and then it'll all be ok, Jean Claude will not do alot but many words will be written (in GREAT detail) about how lacy his cuffs are and how the colour of his shirt contrasts his skin, eyes, hair, teapot. Anita will defeate the big bad with a new power and the book will end, Anita no further along in life and the reader tearing their hair out.

When we send you constructive comments don't wrote to us telling us things like "if you don't like it don't read it", we buy your books, we are YOUR customers at the end of the day, I think you'll find it should be a case of if WE don't like it YOU shouldn't write it. I know you think the people in your books are real, and that you buy them presents at the holidays but for gods sake stop making things so complicated. Anita does not need more than 15 sexual partners and she does need to get back to what the first books were about. I know you write romance under another name and I know you put loads of effort in but leave the romance for Merry Gentry and your other books and get the Anita ones back to Gore, Crime, Animating and the good stuff.

  4. What annoys me about horror.

Supernatural creatures not all following the same rules. For example Author A might have vampires that explode into dust when hit by sunlight but Author B's vamps love the stuff.

Horror authors tend to be quite edgy and unable to accept criticism, I can name at least 4 who have thrown their toys out of their prams because someone has given them a bad review.

And my final tip is thus. The good guy does not always have to win, he doesn't always have to kiss the girl. Sometimes pain and sadness will do him good.

  5. Thanks for the welcome Nici. I see there are more than one or two SK fans here, so we shouldn't Be lonely! :)

I missread that for a second and thought to myself "hang on he doesn't even know her, and if he did he wouldn't be a fan" but anyway enough of the rambles and welcome. I now name and number you as an official Token BCF Male #14.

    W

  6. Hi Kelly. Finally get a chance to ask you some more questions.

While you were writing your books how did you decide on what kind of preternatural creatures you were going to use and how did you decide on the rules that would apply to them. An example is vampires and their relationship with the sun, holy items, stakes ect.

    Cheers,

    Wraith.

P.s any chance of having someone named Wraith getting horridly killed in your next book

  7. Has anybody read it in a whole day? When I was in Borders today, next to the Anita Blake books they had put a note, saying if you love Anita Black why not try Jim Butchers Harry Dresden series. He is a Wizard. Anybody read any?

Yeah Dresden is good, very Anita like, sarcastic, sassy, gets things done. With less of the icky sex.

You shuld also check out the Rachael Harrison books, she has a very good series featuring a preturnatural universe... IIRC the first one is Dead Witch Walking.
