  1. Muggle, that is incredible!! Even if some, as mentioned, might be enhanced slightly. Thanks for posting it!
  2. Well, since recommendations are going on, I'll add one of my all time favorites. As Time Goes By....with the inimitable Dame Judi Dench.
  3. I'm 160-odd pages into The White Princess by Philippa Gregory. It's good, but I have to say I enjoyed some of the previous in the series more.
  4. Found a great article on the New York Times...it comes, if not very close, at least in the ballpark of my husband and myself. Except for the triage..... ....One Book Out We are, at least, when we find duplicates, sending the dups to Daughter.
  5. Ratlines by Stuart Neville 4/5 Neville has done it again. His characters are real and nuanced, brought fully to life. Albert Ryan is an Irishman that fought with the English against the Axis powers in WWII, and is shunned by his own for it. The time is 1961, just prior to a visit to Ireland by the American President John F. Kennedy and security is tight, to say the least. Although the story does not include Kennedy in any way, the heightened security for his visit plays a part in the attention paid to what seems to be a serial killer that is targeting ex-Nazis that are living in Ireland. Ryan is a part of what I suppose is a Special Forces sort of security agency and is loaned to a government Minister to track down the killer or killers. He is tasked with finding out why the killings are taking place, and stopping them before they kill their apparent true prey. The story turns into a cat and mouse thriller that takes some unexpected turns. Ryan is a great character, and I hope Neville brings him back for a sequel. Recommended.
  6. Jojo is adorable! I miss having dogs. /sigh/ But I love my cats.
  7. Great pictures, everyone!! It is so lovely to be able to attach a face to names.
  8. Finished Ratlines by Stuart Neville, and will begin The White Princess by Philippa Gregory later today.
  9. In that case, he sounds a bit unreliable. So, it is better this way. It almost sounds as though he went after you as sort of a test, to see if he could break through your apparent disinterest, and when he did......either wasn't interested anymore, or he made his point to himself. Either way, you don't need that sort of person in your life. Unfortunately, it's all a bit of a crapshoot.
  10. Companies that change appointments made 2 weeks in advance and are cancelled 2 hours in advance of said appointment. Appointments that we have switched our entire schedule around for, and now have to wait another week to fulfill. Because "we don't come to your area but 2 days a week".
  11. Oaf. Pox on him then. Good riddance to bad rubbish. OTOH, it is good that he said this up front, and this soon. I still say, the bum! I think you are taking the right attitude, frankie, but I'd amend it a trifle, and say.....for now. I can only speak from experience, but I know that when I "gave up", and decided that I wasn't going to long for, or even want (another) relationship I not only felt better about myself, but was more content in general. It's when a person reaches that level of contentment with themselves that they give off the vibes that attract a person of the same mood or frame of mind.
  12. Oh, we loved this show! Watched it straight through. We are still watching The Sopranos....again, straight through. We began season 6 part 1 last night.
  13. Thanks frankie.
  14. Great list Devi. I especially like the look of Fukushima by Mark Willacy. I also really enjoyed WWZ and Wool, both excellent!
  15. We do buy books online, primarily from Amazon, either new or from their Marketplace. If it is new, it's at least 1/3rd off the "original" price, so not so bad. However there are two nice second hand stores quite close to us (as close as anything in the "country") and they have some selection. I like second hand stores and Library Sales as one never knows what one will run into. We'll find books we didn't even know we wanted. But I tend to be a bit of a scrounger, so enjoy the search, it's part of the fun.
  16. Husband says it is called The Fifteen Puzzle, per google.
  17. Neat! I've seen it over here.

    Cars

The BMW is gorgeous. It doesn't pay to make assumptions regarding Americans and their driving habits/preferences. It so unattractive, and inaccurate.
  19. The Sisters Brothers is one of my favorites, glad you enjoyed it! No use trying to force it, mojo will return faster if not forced. Annoying as that is! Cookies make everything better.
  20. Bonus is a good thing. And, seriously, the parents thing is an excellent indicator of good character.
  21. Excellent review, looks very interesting. Thanks. Good review, I'd read this many years ago, and enjoyed it. I should reread to refresh my memory of the details.
  22. That is exactly the way to look at it frankie. I say this from experience both ways.
  23. Still watching The Sopranos, into the 4th season now. Whoa!
  24. Yes, exactly. Just like when you have a problem, sleep on it, and come to a resolution the next morning. Our unconscious or subconscious mind works wonderfully. I read them all together. Click looks interesting, I had not even heard anything about it yet! Thanks for the info.
  25. When we've travelled other than by auto, we box the books up and mail home. Along with laundry.
