  1. gosh, so glad I read this thread, I thought it was me! I have adored all of Phillipa Gregory's previous books, particularly this Tudor series, but I really didnt like The Other Queen at all. I persevered with it because I kept believing it would draw me in, but it didnt. I couldnt get to like any of the characters at all. I was glad to finish it, to be honest. But I will read the White Queen and hope it will be so much better.

  2. I have read the first 3 books. the second took me months to finish - i really struggled with it! I have found that I have to make these my main holiday read as thats the only way i can see I will get through them. I do enjoy them, just find them a bit hard going. I really enjoyed Voyager by doing this as I found I had more time each day to read. i will definately ensure I do that when i get to the Fiery Cross.

  3. Did anyone get to read this one and what did you think? I have just finished it and found it a really good absorbing book, perhaps a bit too long, but then I didn't want it to end!!! cant wait to get hold of the 2nd in the series now - its on loan at my library and cant find it on any swap sites - reluctant to pay WHSmith or Waterstone prices. I understand some of the later ones in the series are really hefty books!

  4. I am sorry to say I agree with you about this book Kell. I read it some time ago and you sum it up exactly for me too. Its strange because I love Nicci French books, presumably only one half of the duo is not as good as both of them together. I have Solace which is the other book that Nicci Gerrard has written on her own to read, and I am reluctant to give it a go because of this one.

  5. Years ago I stubbornly refused to read the Harry Potter books, not thinking they were my kind of thing at all and the hype put me off. Well the hype was there but when I gave in and read them, I loved them and as on a previous thread cant wait and also dread the final book. Since then I cant say I have stubbornly refused any, because I think you can be pleasantly surprised.

  6. Definately, sometimes you dont want to think when you are reading but then another time the stimulation is just what you need.

Have only found this site a couple of days ago and cant believe with the amount of reading that I do that it has took me so long - picked up a link on the read it swap it site, so thank you whoever that was from.

As you say, looking round the site you do pick up new author ideas, and I have already written a couple down that I will try.

    thanks

  7. Hi

No nothing specific, I read a wide range. I love thrillers, although they can get a bit formulaic at times. I like Martina Cole, Dan Brown (and similar to the majority prefer his other books, and not DVC), Lindsey Davis, Colin Forbes, Nicci French. I also enjoy chick lit for holiday reading -Jill Mansell, Belinda Jones, that type of thing. I also love all Lesley Pearse books and have been anorachy and read them all in order!

  8. Hi Not only do I have to read a series in order, but I also like to read an author's books in order of writing as well. Perhaps a bit anoracky I know but i think authors develop their styles as they write and you can see this in the writing. Sometimes if you read a most recent book and then go back to the first you can see the difference. Also I feel a lot of authors do tend to reuse characters from previous books, even if they are only a background character, and I like being able to say to myself, oh he/she was in such and such a book. I know its sad, but its all part of the reading experience for me.
