  1. Ah okay, that makes sense. I thought I was going mad there for a second, or that there was a secret part of the board I didn’t have access to when I couldn’t find it.
  2. I spend all day at work sitting in front of a computer and so I’ve deliberately cut back on my screen time out of hours, so this is another reason why old-fashioned pen and paper is working well for me. It’s easy to update them at the drop of a hat.
  3. Sorry! 9 weeks today is New Year's Eve though, so it's not that far away! Would you mind pointing me in the right direction because I can’t seem to find this thread you mention? But yes, I would be interested in a Christmas reading group.
  4. I was just wondering if you had given any more thought to a Book Club Forum Book Club. With the new year just around the corner I thought it would be the ideal opportunity to start putting some plans into action if anyone was still interested.
  5. In preparation of the next DI Kim Stone book being released next month I’ve started a re-read. I’m about halfway through Silent Scream by Angela Marsons and I’m hoping to get it finished later today.
  6. I started watching Downton Abbey earlier this week and I’m watching one episode per day. I’ve never seen it before but must admit I’m rather enjoying it.
  7. The Holiday - I’ve started my Christmas movies early this year as I feel like I hardly saw any last year.
  8. The only books I have read that are under or around the 100-page mark are novellas and I generally don’t like them. To be fair the only ones that I have read are part of a wider series and I just don’t think they add anything to the overall story. They usually feature more minor characters and how can you relate or get to know them in such a short number of pages. It feels like the author is just cashing in and writing them for the sake of it. No, the longer the book the better in my opinion. Although saying that there are a few shorter novels mentioned earlier in this thread which I would like to read at some point so maybe they’ll help change my mind.
  9. I used to be the same and keep track of my daily page count, but I was finding it was beginning to have a negative effect on my reading. Like you I would berate myself for not hitting my target and some days it was becoming almost a chore as I felt like I had to keep reading until I’d hit my page count for day, and I never want something I do for escapism and enjoyment to feel like that. So, I had to reset my mind and get out of the habit of keeping track. I found that 100 pages is the general average for me and a number I can (usually) quite easily hit, so I still have it as loose target but I’m not quite so hard on myself if I don’t quite make it.
  10. I am a fiction girl through and through. I would like to try and branch out a little and read a few autobiographies because I’ve seen a few that have interested me, but for me reading is an escape from reality and fiction hits the spot perfectly.
  11. I like to try and aim for about 100 pages a day but sometimes I can read more than this, other days a lot less, it really does all depend on how busy my day is. I’m lucky in that I only work Monday to Friday so weekends are completely my own so I can obviously read more then. It also depends on what book I’m reading; the writing style, genre, subject matter, font size etc. can all impact how much I can read in a day. To be honest with you if I can read a little each day, I’m not too worried about how much I’ve read.
  12. I’m about to start Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Read. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but she seems to be extremely popular at the moment and as this one is about tennis, which I love, I thought I’d give it a go.

    Folio Society

I know these editions are stunning, but I really can’t see how anyone can justify spending that on a single book. I’d be terrified to even touch it, let alone read it, in case it got damaged.
  14. I watched Jurassic World Dominion for the first time this week after hearing very mixed reviews about it and I must agree with those that said it’s not the best. It’s my least favourite of all the Jurassic Park/World movies (I think), but it has put me in the mood to go back and watch the original one so I’m planning on doing that this coming weekend. I may even watch the entire franchise over the next week or so and then read the original books they’re based on. I’m pretty sure I have read the first book but can’t really remember it all that much, mainly because whenever I think of Jurassic Park I automatically think/remember the movie so it will be good to be able to compare them properly.

The competition is also available on their website. I may have gone through their site earlier picking out the books I’d select if I won!
  16. I’ll aim to post some pictures of both journals towards the end of the year. To be fair the book journal itself is straightforward and there’s not a whole lot to show – it’s just a list of book titles and authors – but the author journal has a bit more to it. It’s where I’m keeping track of which books from an author I’ve read, and which ones are still to read. It’s also where I’m keeping track of series and I can see at a glance which book in a series I’m up to. It took a bit of trial and error figuring out how I wanted it to look but I’ve got it down now.

I’ve always wanted to try Zumba but have never had the courage to go to a class. Plus, I have absolutely no rhythm whatsoever so I’m not sure how I would get on. It does look fun though!
  18. Yeah, I really do need to try and pick them up again and continue with the series, but I think I’ll probably end up having to re-read the first one as it’s been a while since I read it. I might try and aim to read one a month starting in the new year.
  19. This is going surprisingly well; keeping it simple seems to be the way to go for me and the journal is filling up nicely. If I can keep up with it throughout the rest of this year, I may post a few images if anyone is interested in seeing them. I had a couple of weeks of annual leave a few weeks back and whilst off I made the decision to restart a book blog where I am posting reviews of all the books I read. So far this is also going well and at some point, I will copy and paste them all into my reading thread on here, which has not gone as well.
  20. This is good to know, It’s just a pity they’re still so expensive. You would have thought the price would have come down a bit by now. I wonder if they ever have a sale.
  21. I’ve just started The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. For some reason I thought it was a thriller but turns out it’s in the horror genre; it’s been a while since I read horror, but so far so good.
  22. I listened to a couple of the samples of the Stephen Fry versions a good few years ago, and they sounded amazing being narrated by him. He has the perfect voice for them. I didn’t know his versions are abridged though so can understand why Hayley went for the Jim Dale version. I think the only reason I didn't buy them at the time - and I was tempted - was because they were super expensive at the time, and I really couldn't justify the price of them!
  23. This is a very interesting topic with some good points having been made with regards to audiobooks but, in all honesty, I really don’t know how I personally feel about whether I would count audiobooks as having been ‘read’ as such. I watch a few booktubers over on YouTube and some of them listen to audiobooks whilst working (both at home and whilst in the office) and to me I just don’t understand how they can really absorb or concentrate on the audiobook whilst doing something like work – one of the Youtubers I watch is an accountant! To me there is no way they can be able to do both equally well so either the audiobook is just background noise and not something they are really taking in or concentrating on, or their work is not being done to the highest level. I personally have never listened to an audiobook although I have been tempted a few times by the Harry Potter books as I think these would be amazing in audiobook format.
  24. I don’t think I have ever regretted reading a book. Yes, there have been some I haven’t necessarily enjoyed reading but I don’t think I’d go as far as saying I’ve regretted reading them in the first place. If a book is that bad to begin with, I wouldn’t spend any more time finishing it.
  25. I used to be a book blogger back in the day and was a member of a couple of non-book related forums so it seemed logical to join a book related forum too. I’ve had to look back at my old posts on my old account to find out how I found BCF specifically and apparently, I joined after seeing a link in the original owners profile on Amazon, which I came across after reading one of her book reviews.
