The Time Traveler’s Wife- Audre Niffenegger (416 pages) "...he thinks there is only free will when you are in time, in the present. He says in the past we can only do what we did, and we can only be there if we were there." Henry, talking to his 1992 self/ The Time Traveler's Wife I have a problem getting through the 30- 60% range of a book. I don’t know why, the middle just bogs me down. But with Time Traveler’s Wife, Niffenegger stages a major event in the smack dab middle of the book and it kept me riveted. Henry is a time traveler (against his will). And Clair is his soul mate. Only 8 years apart, their lives intersect throughout the book, Henry vowing to never reveal the future. As the couple try to embark on a “normal” existence in a marriage, their closeness resonates. Though the end left me wanting (and wishing) for more, I was disappointed in the one chosen by the author. It was a good read though, one I enjoyed. I just wish the ending had been better.

I'm glad it is picking up for you, perhaps the best part of a re-read is remembering why you liked it so much in the first place. I hope you find it! I am having some of the same problems. I have read Elizabeth Wurtzel's More Now Again so many times, it feels like an old friend. But it is a graphic book and I know what's coming up

Well, meant to get some reading time in, during my normal time... but the school nurse called and little one was running a fever and had stomach issues, so now I am playing nurse. Poor thing, she just managed some toast, hot tea with a little milk and sugar.

Thanks! I have a few already ticked off! I've never had a challenge before I love the way Kingsolver paints the setting of her novels. She describes them well, so her Prodigal Summer about southern Appalachia interests me. I liked The Poisonwood Bible though and all of hers that I have read, actually!

That's not bad! I step in here with trepidation every time, hoping I don't come out with something for my Wish List. I think I will have to own these -
One of my favorites, Blue Crush

I'm so glad you liked The Pact! Was there enough "courtroom" for you? I agree, I never knew where the book was taking me. What did you think of the end? I'm not sure if Nineteen Minutes is about a school shooting, the Amazon synopsis is surprisingly vague, but intriguing. We'd love to have you with us Girl With All the Gifts is a... well, I would break it down and call it apocalyptic. But don't read too many of them, because I don't want to you to find out the secret I found out and was ticked! I'd love your opinion on Take Me With You, I think its pretty hard not to like the book. Good luck with I Am The Messenger. I think Girl Waits With Gun is losing my interest and I don't want to stall out this early in the year! I also don't want an abandon yet either. Shame, I was looking forward to this one. I think I will do a "once every so often" read of Elizabeth Wurtzel's Now More Again. But give Girl another day.

First Line of Current Book - 2016

The first time I took Ritalin I had been clean for four months. More Now Again/ Elizabeth Wurtzel -
No, it just sounds very much like a CRH The Pact does move fast, I wanted to be able to have some super power to consume it all at once Gaia and I plan on reading Nineteen Minutes this summer, you (and anyone else) are welcome. With CRH, I highly suggest Take Me With You. Its quite unforgettable. I loved Girl With All the Gifts. It was a different type of story and I liked that in it. I am at 100 pages in Girl Waits With Gun. It's going just ok. Reminds me of Patrick deWitt's The Brothers Sisters so far.

I had a set that I grew up with... falling apart and everything, I was saving them in case I did have a child. Then, my dog (said puppy then) chewed them up one night while I as asleep! I just was able to find my original collection second hand, they arrive a few days ago (and also a signed Clive Barker )!

I think it was because of you I started it But that's ok, usually we agree. Oh, sorry It was a good read though

I want to steal your US States challenge, can I?
-
Oh geez- I hate when that happens! Sometimes Kindle can be so weird. The weight is always a bonus though, now I just need them to release The Little House on the Prairie books (9 books, 1700 pages).
-
I can easily see how that can happen. I read over my normal 100+ pages a day and loved every minute I did think of you in the beginning, I've never known anymore named Clair(e) before I think you would like it. I think you are referring to Time Traveler's Wife? I enjoyed it, but I didn't like the ending. I think I expected something more... climatic. But it was symbolic, the ending. I just didn't like the very very ending. I'm glad you are enjoying The Pact, it's one of the books I miss already this year! If you like Ove, you might like Catherine Ryan Hyde.

Amazon is notorious for spoiling books for me. I can't count how many books I thought, "Well, don't need to read that one now."
-
How are you liking it? I couldn't get on with Devil in a White City. I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife and am now planning on Amy Stewart's Girl Waits With Gun.

What bugs me, is in a series, if the covers give away what is going to happen or what has happened (I give the Gone series covers as an example). It's obvious what will happen in book 6, when you read book 1 and see the cover of 6. Likewise, the cover of book 3, totally wreaks the end of book 2.

I think, just simply based on what you read, you will have a good time with part of this challenge. I don't know if you will like Barbara Kingsolver or not, The Bean Trees is older YA, Prodigal Summer I have listed to read in February and is not YA. I think you might enjoy White Fang, In Cold Blood and Uncle Tom's Cabin. Interview with a Vampire is another interesting notation on the list, I'll be interested to hear what you think about that one. And of course, you can't go wrong with Gone With the Wind, my favorite book ever Good Luck, I hope you enjoy some US literature! Edit: This might be a good one for me

I'm glad you liked Year of Wonders and Happy (belated) Anniversary I mainly stopped in to say

Wow, Gaia, they are gorgeous! I hope my shelves look that good What I think is so amazing is that there is even more books behind the books you can see. It's a beautiful thing Something to be proud of, for sure

That is so neat that his message of peace continues to spread, not just in the US, but around the world Goosebumps was the first thing she asked about when she got home from school. But she has math and a sentence to write about a previous book (Serendipity series) first! At first, I thought it would make me nervous and anxious, teaching her, but when she started bringing home books like "Sam the Clam" I knew it was time to step in! She is at a 3rd grade reading level! I know what you mean with the humans over animals, the way last week went with an old "friend" of mine, left me laying with my dog for a few days

I was curious about this series as well, I am a big Joe Hill fan. How many are there? There is a lot, right? -
I am at 70% in The Time Traveler's Wife and I don't know if I should just go ahead and finish it today or take my time and finish tomorrow. I expect an ending that will need to be digested. I hope to start Amy Stewart's Girl Waits With Gun tomorrow.
