  1. As he accidentally deleted the post that he had been working on. He shrugged and put his phone down, things like deleting something by accident happens sometimes. There is really no point to getting upset about it. His thoughts turned back to important thoughts of world changing questions such as, where dose ones keys go when one can't find them and is there a secret island somewhere where all missing and odd socks go? ...
  2. I have to say that what makes a book good is: 1. Good writing 2. A plot were the end is actually a surprise and I don't know whats going to happen until the last page 3. Characters that I like, (you know your main character needs a personality transplant when the person reading you book is willing the bad guys to kill him/her ) And finally 4. A good ending!
  3. The eternal problem, to many book and not enough money to bye them all lol
  4. I am going to sugest the only young adult book that I have ever read (that I knew to be YA) :-) , The Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper are great books. There are five books in all : Over Sea, Under Stone The Dark Is Rising Greenwitch The Grey King Silver on the Tree They are magic adventers based on a little bit of Arthurian legends, Celtic mythology, and Norse mythology. Really good books :-)
  5. "ruben-For me a good book has balance (or harmony) " I agree with you on this a truly good book ought to (in a way) be Zen. The words must have a flow and a rhythm to them while you are reading that slows you to not be aware of the words them selves, but what is happening in the story. "Sakura-I think it's about how well the language flows and how believable the author makes it for me. If the writing is engaging and imaginative, if the dialog and characters are realistic and believable, that can make up a lot of failures in other levels of the book. " And if they don't make me want to give them (the characters) a swift kick ! But yes one can forgive a great deal if you characters are well rounded and you can get behind them and want to know/care about what happens to them. "BSchultz19- If I'm on the edge of my seat in excitement, I usually consider that a good book. But even if there isn't constant action I can enjoy a book and call it "good" if it has good themes. If I finish reading a book and it really makes me think, then it's a "good" book. " Yes, a book that can stop and make you think is a wonderful thing to find and I think that there are to few books write. These day that are like that. P.S sorry for the odd quotes, haveing problems with quoteing more than one person. Sigh
  6. I have been on a long search for a book to read since I finnished the series that I had been reading. Thankfully I have finally found a new series to read, but while I was looking a came across books that should/could have been good but weren't. It wasn't like the ideas for the plots were bad or even the writing, and it got me to thinking. What makes a book good or bad? There must be an "it" quality that some books just don't have. But then what defines a book as "good" differs from person to person. So what do you think makes a good or bad book? And what do you think is missing from those books that should have been good but weren't?
  7. I have always found it amazing how books can change things in so many ways, be it how you think about a subject to so many other things.
  8. Over the years that I have been reading, I have read books that have changed how I have seen, felt about the world and things in it. They have often been books that you wouldn't have thought it have that effect, but they did. ( I'm talking about books like the Tamuli series by David Eddings .) What if any books have lead to a change in how you see the world?
  9. To be honest I am not really sure, I have only read the first one and yes it was more set in victorian times than modern mordern. But where they are and what era the story is set in is very much secondery to the story itself so you don't notice it so much. Or at least I didn't :-)
  10. Well here areba list of books that might fit what you are looking for. Bedlam Bard series -Mercedes Lackey (they are about a bard and all of the stuff be go,'s through. I have read most of them they are really good.) The Serrated Edge series-also Mercedes Lacky (elves raceing cars what more do I have to say?) And the Elmental Masters series (set in london also very good, they are all based on fairy tales and don't have all of the same people through out the books.) :-) hope this are what you are looking for!
  11. Well of course Terry Pratchett (the Discworld books are an, if in doubt read, for me) and Piers Anthony, be wrote the Xanth books which are side slittingly funny :-)
  12. I watched the Avengers movie yesterday and I have to saw that the script writing was shocking! I think that you could drive a truck through some of the holes in the plot. On the other hand I also watched journey 2 the mysterious island and it was surprisingly good. I found myself injoying it more than I thought I would have.
