The Big Hunger. Stories 1932-1959 by John Fante

My first read of Fante’s short stories. This is a good selection that covers more autobiographical themes from the writer, mainly growing up in an Italian-American household and the volatile dramas between family members, he also details the life he lead as a young aspiring writer. Fante’s novels are very to the point and refreshingly unflowery and his short stories bear these hallmarks as well. A good dip-into collection.
