Inver
I think this is the place to put this review as it takes place in Wales, WW11, 1944. A first novel by this author. A Jewish refugee, Captain Rotheram, working for British Intelligence, sent to help with the intterogation of Rudolf Hess. Karsten, a POW who ends up in the local POW camp. Esther Evans, the local girl. After struggling a bit to pick up this storyline, once a third of the way in I was enjoying it more. A very personal and human story about the lives of three very different people in Wales 1944 and how war time has affected them. All have their personal tales to tell, but their paths connect at various points partly by their patriotic tendancies and where their loyalties lie. The relationship between Karsten and Esther are explored with some tenderness I thought. Two human beings whose paths have crossed unexpectedly through no fault of their own. The descriptions of the local areas and life in a small welsh town in this era is very well written. 8/10 Bookcrossing link for Review
Roland Butter
That one's in my pile of books to be read - I remember it getting some positive reviews when it was first published. I'll have to shuffle it up the order a bit!
