Ooshie
Pretty much just a list this year, with these few comments: Most disturbing read - Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel Most moving read - Stoner by John Williams Most surprisingly enjoyable read - I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh Most surprisingly disappointing read - I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes Oh, and apologies for not taking the time to alphabetize my list properly - I know it will have irritated some of you intensely! bobblybear
Oh no, why did you find I Am Pilgrim disappointing? I thought it was one of the best thrillers I have read. I have to agree with you on I Let You Go. I enjoyed that so much more than I was expecting to.
Ooshie
Oh no, why did you find I Am Pilgrim disappointing? I thought it was one of the best thrillers I have read. I have to agree with you on I Let You Go. I enjoyed that so much more than I was expecting to. I had been really looking forward to I Am Pilgrim, so was very surprised to find that I didn't enjoy it. I think it just had too many descriptions in it for me! I remember thinking at the time it read as though it was aimed at being a film, and when I noticed afterwards that the author was also a screenwriter that made sense to me. I'm glad you agree about I Let You Go! I really did enjoy it a lot.
bobblybear
I can't remember the descriptions in I Am Pilgrim, I just loved the story. I will be re-reading it again at some point, so maybe I will notice them more the second time around.
Ooshie
I can't remember the descriptions in I Am Pilgrim, I just loved the story. I will be re-reading it again at some point, so maybe I will notice them more the second time around. Maybe I should read it again and see if this time I notice the story more than the descriptions! :-)
frankie
Good to see you back, Ooshie! And it's nice to go over the books you read back in 2016! We read the same amount of books, 52. I wish I'd been able to do more, though... Oh, and apologies for not taking the time to alphabetize my list properly - I know it will have irritated some of you intensely! Oh pish-posh, who cares about that! This is your thread and you do as you like!
