rytheguy
After discovering the Vorkosigan Saga, Snow Crash, The CultureSeries, The Expanse Trilogy and rereading The Forever War I'm trying tofind more Science Fiction novels that combine exciting action withsmart/smartly executed story telling. Now to clear things up, by"action" I don't necessarily mean Military Sci-Fi(although thoseshouldn't be excluded) I'd like more variety like cyberpunk or presentbased science fiction. saintmark
If you have never read Jack Vance, I have some good news for you. There is much to look forward to. You can start right here. The Planet of Adventure / Tschai series is perhaps not quite as edgy as Tales of the Dying Earth: The Dying Earth/The Eyes of the Overworld/Cugel's Saga/Rhialto the Marvellous, but that only makes it a bit more accessible. The cycle Tschai series consists of four books: City of the Chasch Servants of the fiddleh The Dirdir The Pnume Edited July 24, 2013 by saintmark

Wow, I'm surprised this is the only place Snow Crash come up upon doing a search! Anyways, I was recently given Snow Crash as a gift along with a high recommendation from more than a few admirers of the book. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the tale, and writing style? Karsa Orlong
^^ The only one of Neal Stephenson's books that I've read is Cryptonomicon. I wasn't overly keen on it - the writing style was fine, but it was too long for its own good and became a chore to read in the end. Snow Crash is about half the length, though
Calexa
Thanks for the input, Karsa. I've not read even a single page of Neal Stephenson, and I'm always dubious of writing styles when it comes to authors unknown to me. I don't mind a lengthy book if the style is not tedious, or overly verbose. I'll give Snow Crash a chapter or two to show it's goods then decide whether to read further or not, methinks. There are lots of sites which are offering variety of novels. Some novels you can prefer to read are: 1 Dune (Frank Herbert) 2 Ender’s Game (Ender Quartet) (Orson Scott Card) 3 Starship Troopers (Robert Heinlein) 4 Foundation (Foundation Series) (Issac Asimov) 5 The Stars My Destination (Alfred Bester)
