Brill, from what I have seen of the guys in my year in the most part they are unable to hold a conversation with an adult they don't know so he is way ahead of the game, I'm sure there was a guy who ended up working for sir Allen sugar who had little in terms of qualifications, but had the gift of the gab so to speak

I very rarely buy books, fiction not at all, I get books from the libary you can always take them out again...I think of it like an extended personal collection, plus I don't have to hire a van for many trips when moving house, or worry about what would happen if my house burnt down...I keep a hard drive with me with anything I couldn't replace with me..my motto is travel light and I'm not longer as stressed for it...

hiya, am sure I have read it, but watching the film were lost,it jumped four times from present to three years back then another back then back to the present...I think I will have to watch it again and re read the book, didn't seem as meaty as her usual work...Tipping the velevet I think was a three part piece, have seen Affinity too and they were much better books as well as adaptations...

hiya, anyone else used to use a family members lib cards?, a buried memory just jumped up about the little local libarain getting all huffy not allowing me to take out books on my child card she deemed too adult, then my mom putting them on her card for me. I wonder if they have a policy or it's just up to the individual, the kind of books I read at that age were pretty tame. I'm sure that they have lowered the amount I'm able to take out too...must rememebr to be nice to those libarains...

yeah, I get the look too, that's great am jealous of the language skills, I've an auditory form I.e hate loud noises, places...forget things told verbally, have problems with sequences of numbers like phone numbers...recalling historic dates..difficulty with memory, but it also means I have a lovely time misreading signs...it helps to have a sense of humour

Poppy I think thats a good sign considering there wasn't big special effects like guys jumping off exploding things etc!

Hiya, yes, writing too drys up for me. which is also relaxing...think I am just wired odd!, I'm in a reading phase now where I will devour most things in days...

It's when they string together you have to worry!, most of my family are dyslexic (not dignosed while in school) and have had to work twice as hard to get round 'normal' school work, am sorry to hear he feels he is not clever, the reasoning skills you gain from figuring things out put you ahead of your classmates and really the school/college should be supportive, besides alot of books are on CD, there are products out there to help, which can read for you. I like tangents, yes I have trouble recalling names and if the names begin with the same letters like Terry Baker and Tom Barnet (made up!) I get confused or if they are names I have never heard outloud I can't connect with them as phonetics is something I have trouble with, I often know words meanings from breaking them down but not how to say them, I have very few friends who correct my use of language in a negative way.

I forgot about stand by me, with the ever young River Phoenix, Brillant film, haven't worked my way through all of Stephen King yet, have found some are better than others, which brings me to Along came a spider written by James Paterson. The movie was very different from the book, the casting of Morgan Freeman I wasn't sure about as I imagined a younger man, Freeman is a great actor but I imagined Denziel Washington when I read the book, Talking of Pelham one two three anyone? as I have not read the book or seen the first adaptation....

yeah, it's been a long while getting sorted, I think I will have to watch the film then read the book of things because I usually remember the main plot, Mystic river by Dennis Lehane when made into a film lost a critic piece for me

What was the best adaptation you saw and what was the worst? I was disappointed with Timeline made into a film, a Micheal Crichton book, I think I should have watched it years later when I forgot the plot... Lord of the rings is brillant but then I found the books heavy going, would you belive I brought the whole thing for a pound two years before filming and now you need to fork out the best part of a tenner.. Shutter island not bad at all book and film...

I don't buy books generally as I live in a city where I have access to five local libaries, one the main city libaray and I feel like by having them in the house I am leaving less room for life! as I can't afford to buy books and can't afford to move around huge bookcases as I don't own a house but I know what you mean it is lovely to have a new book, they have a great smell (like new shoes) and feel like it's a treat...

I think in the self help section if one book changed my life I'd never pick up a book again!, something that becomes a habit that does you good is more helpful and the theory is that it takes 28 days...I read self help books now and again...but don't buy them. I've been listening to Ekheart Tolle and reading 'Overcoming anger and irrtablity' by William Davis

Denying human rights is a slippery slope reguardless of what the person has done, I think there is a fasination with people who are far removed from our own experiences, I'm not sure prisoners can own property while in prison as it may have been funded by crime but they can earn money while inside, the difference from manual work being a book is in the public domain...tricky question..I've seen films based on true life but haven't read any of the books they are based on...I guess I prefer fiction.

I don't have full blown can't read at all type..if I'm tried the words move about but I just use a book mark to stick them down, at school I was behind mainly because the books on offer were boring and they made you read the whole set before moving up so I felt there was no point, I was reading Dick francis at home at 7/8 years old..so my first book was Hot Money what was yours?

The soundtrack to pirates of the caribbean...classical music calms me down and this soundtrack reminds me of the funny situations Jack sparrow got into...

Have been rewatching the Harry Potters in sequence...alittle OCD much?!, but he last thing I saw at the cinema was the last Pirates of the Caribbean, I think it's a Johny Depp thing..have to say the first was the best...

hiya, I'm an occasional book dipper, I'm dyslexic but not in the traditional sense as I can pin words down to the page but can't have two conversations at once particulaly with a coffee machine dragging grounds through pipes hence joining the virtual book club, if I win the lottery I will open a tea house with only filter coffee, book shelves, no phones and no laptops...anyone else from Birmingham? or a mature student?, studying art?, or only read in fits and starts when stressed?

hiya, I'm new too, if you like Terry Prachett you may like Tom Holt, or Micheal Marshall Smith/Micheal Marshall, haven't tried Chuck Palahniuk yet..looks interesting, the kind of books I like has changed alot, I will randomly pick up a book in the libaray now, try the first page and if I like it take it out, I find that if it doesn't get me in the first page I can't get through it no matter how many friends have recommended it or how many great reviews it has got!, happy browsing...
