  1. Just finished The Duke and I by Julia Quinn. Don't know what to read next yet.
  2. Read a couple more pages of "The Duke and I" by Julia Quinn. Hope I can finish it tonight.
  3. If I recall I didn't really enjoy any of the books I had to read at school. It got better in my advanced courses, but we did not read any books I would have picked. But I am with chesilbeach there and think it has a lot to do with being open minded. The books we read in school weren't alltogether bad, but having somebody tell me when and how much I have to read generally raises my hackles.
  4. Had a book in the mail today - does that count as "activity"? Going to continue with "The Duke and I" by Julia Quinn when I finally get away from the computer.
  5. How about Dean Koontz? Though you have to be careful, he is said to have written some really, really good horror stories and others not worth mentioning. I have read "The taking" and except for the slightly odd end found it quite good. Or maybe Bentley Little? "The mailman" actually reminded me a little of King's "Needful things".
  6. I just gave up on "Fire" by William Esmont. What a bullsh...! Haven't decided on the next book yet.
  7. I can second that. I buy a lot of used books, but usually only if they are in good shape.
  8. 2 weeks with myself and only 3 books?!? Oh my... Philip Pullman - His dark materials trilogy Cornelia Funke - Inkdeath Sherrilyn Kenyon - Acheron And I only chose these because they're at least thick enough to get me through two weeks without fearing I run out of books.
  9. Is noise allowed? The TV or the children? Well, yes. I often turn on the TV or music while reading, at least when I'm reading in the living room. No "noise" when I'm in my reading room or reading in bed, though. Indoors or out? Morning or Evening? Usually indoors, because when I'm out I'm doing other things. During the week I only read in the evening, on the weekend whenever I can. Do you read on sofa or do you prefer to snuggle in bed with a good read? Both. Is a cuppa close to hand? Do you feast while you read? Ah... yes to both. Does everything have to be just so? No. The only thing I need is a little time. I couldn't read before work out of fear I might run out of time.
  10. There are a couple. I'm a huge Nora Roberts fan, but the films they made of the books pretty much suck. An even bigger disappointment was "Time machine" based on Michael Crichton's book. I really loved the book, but the movie is just poor.
  11. Well, it's been awhile since I was here, but I hope I'm still allowed to join in. I finished "Hot finish" by Erin McCarthy today. Now I cannot figure what to read next...
  12. Happy birthday. :)

  13. Well, I've been a little too enthusiastic buying books this year. I use "BookCook", which is a great (and cheap) programme. I used to have an excel list, but only with the book titles so I wouldn't buy a book twice, but then I heard about BookCook and immediately bought it. Here's a screenshot: It's especially great since it not only shows you each single book, but shows lots of statistics with one click. I've only had it for six months, but I wouldn't want to miss it anymore.
