  1. But we are sharing the joy of reading, it's so much more about the positive than the negative when we discuss them. I read such a variety of genres, styles etc, it would be impossible for everyone to enjoy the same ones that I have. That's part of the joy of reading and chatting about them all. Just look at the 'Top 5' style threads, not just here, but on other sites. How much more varied could they be? It's not killing them, constructive debate is healthy for readers and authors alike.
  2. The mention of the Railway Detective books keep cropping up all around me. I am clearly destined to read them!
  3. Ooh, Ceinwenn - yes,she has just the right feel about her. I'm going to ponder this one and try to think of a few (better-than-Ange) possibles...... *goes away to ponder*
  4. I read about this yesterday, boy what a crossover this will be. Cannot wait.
  5. I also always thought of Scarpetta having an understated sexual vibe thing that attracted the men in her life, rather than an obvious thing that would only produce wolf whistles.
  6. There's a copy of it on the GryffindorGazette.com site I think you can just search for the Harry Potter prequel and you should find it, if not I can pm it to you (800 words).
  7. I think the prequel was set during the first Voldemort era, I know the criteria for the piece was that it filled a postcard (or some such), but I felt it was a bit meh!
  8. According to web based digitalspy.co.uk Maybe it's me, but I just do not see Angelina Jolie as Kay Scarpetta, although Patricia Cornwell apparently does.
  9. Read them and find out! There's an excuse to splash out and get them! DEATH speaks in capitals. When I read any stories with DEATH in I can hear his voice very clearly in my head. It has a slight echo to it, as if he's talking into a cave mouth!
  10. Thanks from me too, MDR124! Interesting link.
  11. OK, I never thought I'd actually type these words, but DEATH Rocks! I love his character. Mr Pratchett should be stuffed and mounted when he expires - that man is utterly brilliant! *quietly leaves forum accompanied by nursey*
  12. Is Kookie available for hire? It took significant bribery to get my son to make so much as a cuppa when he was still living here! We are having roasted chicken thighs, mash potato and swede!
  13. The Tiffany Aching do have some of the other characters in them, DEATH and Granny Weatherwax amongst them. I love them, despite being so far beyond aged 21 it's no longer funny!
  14. Do you have Making Money? If not I do, and could send it on to you.
  15. Oh Boy Melisa - you will without a doubt get suggestions and recommendations left, right and centre! If you are like any of us, your To Be Read pile will be a mountain in no time. Welcome!
  16. Hello Anubhuti! Welcome to the Forum. You will see that there are quite a few Twillighters around the place - you'll soon find the thread for the series.
  17. I found this on wikipedia, I haven't seen Red Dragon, but I have seen Manhunter, the earlier version of this story. Manhunter is excellent, with a very understated Brian Cox playing our favourite cannibal. Ooh, you've got me all Lectered! I may have to dig the books out again for a re read!
  18. That's where I'm baffled. I will read whatever forms a part of the story.
  19. We had spicy sausage chopped up with mushrooms and pancetta with tomatoes, new potatoes and broccoli. (ps Broccoli is the one word I always have to check the spelling. I can never remember. lol) Tonight we are having my version of kedgeree. Yum!
  20. I hadn't picked up a Harry Potter book until I bought the first four together in a paperback set, then I realised that there may be a reason for all the fuss! They were descriptive, humourous in places and had a nice feel about them, so when the next came out I got it straightaway, then the same with the next one, and the next one. chrysalis_stage, the earlier ones have a much younger feel to them, but that's appropriate, as Harry is young, and the first readers would have been quite young. But the books mature, and the plot weaves it's magic until you have to know what happens next. I would definitely recommend them them as an enjoyable read.
  21. Miss Whitlock, pull yourself together! Just remember this.... Now, no more of this namby pamby stuff!
  22. The colours are gorgeous - and what a sultry look on her face. Lovely Kell.
