  1. Morality for Beautiful Girls (No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Book 3)- Alexander McCall Smith Amazon Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Audible.com Rating: 4 out of 5 stars LibraryThing Rating: 3.86 Audible blurb: Between intriguing new cases and troubling personal developments, Precious' hands are full. The four Miss Beauty and Integrity pageant finalists may have questionable moral fiber, and the brother of an important government worker has allegedly been poisoned. On top of all that, Precious' reliable fianci might be hiding something. Life is more difficult than ever at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but it's nothing a little clear thinking and a few mugs of bush tea can't candle. My thoughts: These books just keep getting better. I began the series a short time ago on a whim (usually how I end up deciding what to read next) and have really enjoyed them. I am already anxiously awaiting my chance to read book 4!
  2. Will The Skin Gods keep me from sleeping nights???
  3. I see one of my favorites is included in a challenge. The Crimson Petal and the White was a very good book. I couldn't put it down.
  4. Well then I need to make sure to keep them at the top of my list! Thanks for the input!

  7. Well, I've been trying to decide HOW to go about this...and thanks to those of you who've already posted, I've gotten some pretty good ideas. Here goes...
  8. I just finished The Golden Compass earlier today. Having seen the movie first (I know, I know) I wasn't sure if I'd get into it, but I couldn't put it down! Can't wait to start The Subtle Knife!
  9. Following advice here, I read Mort first. Great advice! I liked it so much I decided to give The Colour of Magic a go. Snore. I just can't get through it. So, I've begun Reaper Man and am already hooked!
  10. I loved that book as well. Have you read anything else by M. Faber?
  11. Chorizo with black bean soup, warm tortillas, and rice.
  12. I just read a review of this on The Book Bag, after having looked it over at our local Borders and was thinking about getting it. I'm glad I've read your thoughts on the story...perhaps I'll leave this one off the tbr list for now.
  13. I haven't read "The Golden Compass" yet, but saw the movie. I really enjoyed it. Now I need to read the trilogy! It may just be me, but before the movie caused such a stir here in the U.S., I'd never even heard of the books.
  14. Thanks all for the warm welcome!
  15. The narrator is Nigel Planer, and it is unabridged. I haven't had as much time to listen as I'd like, but am really enjoying it so far. Doesn't feel like I'm "jumping in" in the middle of a series at all. I'm sure there is some interesting background on death's daughter in previous books, but not knowing that doesnt seem to be hurting the story at all. 12/10/2007 Update: I finished Mort! I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading my next Discworld novel. Never would have even picked one up if it weren't for what I read here. Intersesting note...what do you think of the difference between the U.S. and the U.K. covers???
