  1. i know lots of books can change the way you think and feel about a subject but have any fundamentally changed your life?
  2. i cant wait for strictly come dancing too, and the x factor live shows. hopefully there will be another series of the book quiz on bbc4 soon too. oh and anything chrismassy... i cant wait for some fabulous christmas cooking shows!
  3. well this will be my first christmas in my new flat and even though there will only be the three of us i would love to make some extra special treats. i have christmas lunch sorted but would love some recipes for some buffet type snacks or smaller meals around the holidays. can anyboby help?
  4. Did anyone else read this as a child? When I was ten I was given all six books in one gorgeous volume and I would absolutely love to own it again as it was without doubt my most favourite series in the whole world! I know you can buy them new but it just isn't the same... can anybody help?
  5. ooh the more difficult the better, i like a good challenge! i must admit though i do prefer cookbooks that arent just recipe books but have lots of talk in them too. something wherer they talk you through the principles behind the food would be amazing:D we do get the barefoot contessa on uk food, i think she is pretty fantastic. oh and american iron chef is awesome!
  6. lol yeah notes from a small island i think is amazingly funny and will be a little piece of home for him
  7. to be honest i have yet to read mansfield park (and sense and sensibility) but im going through a bit of an austen crush at the mo so ill let you know when ive finished them:smile2:whereabouts in gateshead are you? im from jarrow xxx
  8. hi sorry for late reply. im starting approaching literature next february and im pretty excited about it. i did creative writing this year and i really hated it so im looking forward to getting back to what i enjoy! the only thing im not especially happy with is the number of lit courses. i dont particularly want to do shakespeare because of the residential school so it looks like i might have to do another non-litereture course....
  9. i love french food and was just wondering if anybody knows any really good french cookbooks they could recommend?
  10. in bed, in the bath, standing up in the kitchen, snuggled up on my sofa, on the bus, online, in the garden, in the park, on the beach, in waiting rooms...gimme a book and wherever i am is my new favourite place (although i must admit if i have to choose just one place then it has to be my lovely, snuggly, soft, pink bed )
  11. yes feast is divided into sections, although i must admit when im reading it i very rarely make it past the christmas section:Dhas anybody tried her festive ham recipe? by the way i think nigella's making chocolate mousse on her show tonight so chocoholics stayed tuned! xxx
  12. well i have to admit i found great expectations fairly hard going so i think ill give that one another whirl in a month or two. pride and prejudice was spectacular; i read three othar jane austen novels just after pride and prejudice (northanger abbey, persuasion, and emma) and although i enjoyed them it really elevated P&P in my esteem...everything was just a little bit better in this novel:the dialogue, the pace, it wasn't claustrophobic like emma.and of course elizabeth bennett is wonderful...surprisingly modern and witty and by far the most spirited austen creation.
  13. as long as the recipes keep working i dont really mind...i find it quite funny actually. and some tv cooks are so boring
  14. ooh i wish it was a man....actually the one on the new cover would do
  15. i often experience that with jilly cooper novels (i usually only remember the naughty bits ) but i must admit i have lots of fun re-reading her... im tempted spend my whole saturday morning in bed with the man who made husbands jealous. bliss!
