HI Michelle, good to hear that Empress Orchid has been nominated, must go and vote for it!
Janet, you must try Birdsong again. It is one of the best WW1 novels. Yes, Human Traces, that's it. I saw it in WHS the other day. Might have to treat myself next time I'm in town.
Birdsong....and another one I have on my shelf I have forgotten about. Thanks for reminding me....too many books not enough time.

It is very well written, with verses from literature here and there and descriptive passages (supposedly from a book of Inman's). All of these are cleverly inserted. This book is designed to make the readers think about the other side of war. I have not looked up yet whether Charles Frazier is anti-war, or what his views are.
I found this book a bit of a disappointment...all though well written I found it a bit of a chore to get through. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. Wouldn't do if we all liked the same...and I was a bit disappointed with the ending.

Yip would agree with all that.....the one and only of hers I have read...laughed out loud a few times I seem to remember.

Chocolat is by far her best book and although the film is good I love the book and imagining all the characters myself.
One of the few books I would give 10/10 for.

September?
Love the Cornwall nits although have nt read any for ages
Yip read that one too....think the Cornwall references is what makes her books....although I have never been there myself it sounds a lovely part of the world.

I'm reading a short book of hers just now.....Sleeping Tiger. Haven't read any of hers for a while .
My all time favourite is 'Shell Seekers' Think I have read it about 3 times. One I will always have on my shelf. Not sure what it is exactly that I loved about it, but it was one I recommended to my mum and sis many years ago.
To my delight it came to the Pitlochry Fesitval Theatre where the premier of the play was held. I managed to get to see it (my sis and bil work there) and it was very well done. Would recommend it as a play too.
What is your favourite?

I have only read the first one.....I didn't think I wanted to go through them one after the other....although now if I went back to them I'm not sure I would remember much about it

I loved it once I got past trying to keep track of how old he was etc. The story kept me interested and page turning.

They gave it a good review on Richard & Judy yesterday....might get it for a read.
-
Haven't read it but recently joined up for a bookring for it on 'Bookcrossing'.

My favourite was Pilots Wife ...was the first of hers I read and have read a few others the names of which escape me.
-
I have only read Sister's Keeper and have my 'signed' copy that I treated myself to when she was book signing in Aberdeen in May.
Have a few others on my wish list though.

I have read Private Peaceful. Was a great read. I manged to get my teenage son to read it.
Brothers experience, trials and tribulaitions during the war. Very moving story. One I think every boy should read.

I have just finished reading this and have to say I skimmed a lot of it. Although knowing parts of Edinburgh did find it quite amusing. Loved the chapter when they end up in the charitiy shop in Morningside...could just imagine where they were. Also I actually worked in the Braid Hills Hotel as a receptionist way back too.

I read this not long after my mum died and it kinda helped me through it a bit.

Don't really do Sci Fi.....but dh does. Doesn't really appeal to me to much in films either.
Also Da Vinci Code....just one of those books I can't be bothered reading because it has been hyped up so much.
