  1. Hi Vodkafan, Nope I haven't but will have a look. thanks.
  2. Hi Athena, Thank you!
  3. Oh my god! You are an absolute Star Madame,a gem,a Diamond! Thank you so much...I am delighted. That is the very book....how did you find it with such poor info I gave? I have been racking my brain for around ten years trying to remember the title. ....I don't know why I thought it was set in Newcastle. cheers!
  4. Hi,I only started reading again in the past few years when I got a kindle but I have always preferred the physical copies. I picked up loads of books on the kindle for around £1-£3 and was amazed at how cheap digital copies were.(gave the kindle away to my mum recently) I have also purchased a few brand new hardcovers from amazon a couple of years ago and they come in at around the £10-£15 mark which I think is quite expensive for a hb but I have also noticed that some new paperback books on amazon are priced in the region of £10-£20 and was wondering why so bloody expensive.....I thought paperbacks's should be cheap as chips eg £1-£5. I now purchase 2nd hand Hardcovers and try to pay £5 max. Why are new books so expensive and does anybody know the production costs involved and what profits publishers and authors get? BTW What do you think brand new Hardcovers and brand new Paperbacks should be priced at and what price would encourage you to buy more new books?
  5. Hi,thanks very much for trying but unfortunately it's not it. I think the title was something like ______,______,Jammer and me (the two ____'s are boys names I think. I actually tried to read the very first HP after seeing the movie and my brother, sister and a few other relatives that like a good book were raving about how good a writer she was but I put it down half way and couldn't fathom what was so great about it or jks writing. Anyway thanks again...much appreciated.
  6. Hi....newbie here! My most favourite book from my childhood was Danny the Champion of the World by the great Roald Dahl. And I also loved the Baker Street Irregulars by Terrance Dicks. I can remember vaguely a book i really enjoyed when I was a kid but can't remember the title or author and have tried searching for it online but have had no joy(it's pretty difficult without the author or even the title!)All I can really remember is that it was set in newcastle or roundabouts and Jammer or Jammy was one of the characters in the story. I would like to read Lemony Snickets as I'm still a big kid at heart . BTW I must be the only person in the world to absolutely hate Harry Potter....I don't know why so many kids like it and think it is way over-rated!
  7. Hi Frankie, thank you!
  8. Thank you for the warm welcome Madeleine, I am going to check out the different sections of the forums today. All the best!
  9. Thank you for the warm welcome LAU_LOU, yes it's a beautiful country...I just wish I could get out more to see more of it. I'm glad you don't think my taste in books are strange aswell. all the best!
  10. Hi bookworms My name is Ally and I'm from Bonnie Scotland! I have just started reading printed books again after giving my kindle paperwhite to my mum as she reads much more than me. Just recently I decided to try and get a little collection of hardbacks going of some of my favourite books and some new ones too and decided to join a book forum to get some info on book collecting. I am not very well read and I think I have pretty strange taste in books. The types of books I like are : horror/ghost stories/organised crime/gangsters/ufo's and holocaust/survivor stories. I would like to branch out and try some different genres such as crime thrillers etc. Looking forward to browsing the site and asking lots of questions! cheers
