  1. Ah, is it as creepy as I've heard? Not sure whether to give it a try or not as I don't like books that are too scary but I was intrigued with the writing style.
  2. Hi everyone It's been a while since I posted on here, but I'm hoping you might be able to come to my rescue again please? I am looking for a book that I saw in a book haul video on youtube some months ago but the only things I can remember about it are that the girl in the video said that she'd heard that it was quite scary and throughout the book there was just one word that was always in red (or maybe it was blue... it was a different colour to the rest of the text anyway!) It may have had a black cover I think. Does anyone have any idea what I'm on about? I'm hoping that I haven't confused those two facts that I think I know about it and that they're not actually from two different books haha! I've tried googling for it but I'm coming up with nothing! Hoping you can help! Thanks, Selina x
  3. Hi cuppycakes! I love your username too! I love baking when I get a chance Ooo my mum is a big history fan and she's slowly getting me interested too, I see books set further back in time but am never brave enough to buy them. I'm stuck in the second world war haha! What would you recommend? Other authors I like are CS Lewis, my favourite book ever is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; stuck since childhood. I like a huge variety really. I like some YA (even though I'm not one anymore haha!) and enjoyed Veronica Roth and Suzanne Collins. I like some horror/thriller like Stephen King and Karin Slaughter. I also like Crime such as Lee Child (was NOT impressed with the film with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher!), and Kate Atkinson. I'll give pretty much anything a go if it sounds interesting! Selina
  4. Hi, I'm new and I hope you don't mind me joining in on this thread. I love any excuse to talk about books! I've actually got four on the go at the moment. I used to do this a lot a few years ago and had got quite strict with myself since and was doing well sticking to one, but lately I was having trouble getting in to just one; I think it was because I've been buying a lot of second hand books and had got so many that I wanted to start, I couldn't hold back haha! So, I'm currently reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, My Sweet Valentine by Annie Groves and Beyond the Call of Duty: Heartwarming Stories of Canine Devotion and Bravery by Isabel George. I'm loving The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, the style of writing is brilliant and I love stories set in this era. I'm also enjoying Beyond the Call of Duty: Heartwarming Stories of Canine Devotion and Bravery; I love dogs and enjoy reading true stories of their loyalty and bravery. My Sweet Valentine is the 3rd book in the Article Row series by Annie Groves, and I adore her stories, especially this series set in London during World War Two. Little Women is a re-read as I read this when I was younger, but I just got my hands on a Penguin Classics copy and couldn't resist opening it straight away! Would love to know if anyone has read any and what you thought of them. Selina
  5. Hi all, I joined the other day to ask about a book I couldn't remember the title of and realised that I didn't actually introduce myself in here - I'm not usually that rude haha! My name is Selina, I'm 29 and I live in Wiltshire. I've enjoyed reading since I was very small and blame my late father for this addiction haha, as he was a very big reader. We used to go to our village library together after school and my mum would often wonder where we'd got to as we would spend so long in there haha! I'm currently reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and really enjoying it. It's such an unusual style of writing and I also love stories that are based in, around or just after the Second World War. I'm completely old fashioned and sometimes I wish I was born in this era. I love the styles, traditions and the way people act and speak. I really enjoy Annie Groves' books too and I've also started reading My Sweet Valentine in her Article Row series. I was sad to hear when she had died, but I'm glad that her family are still releasing the work that she was still working on. I hope to stick around on here; it seems such a friendly place and the quick responses I got on my post where I was searching for the title of a book was amazing. I've been looking through the recommendations on here too and finding a lot more books to add to my TBR list - not that I really need anymore haha!! Happy reading! Selina
  6. Haha aw no worries, I would've liked to have helped you with your wishlist but I totally understand that there are those fabulous books that it's just not possible to part with Once I have enough posts to look in the swap section, I'll take a look at your list. I'll list books I have available for swap too. Selina x
  7. Hi frankie, I've just looked at your wishlist and saw that you would like to acquire Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson. I have this book and would be willing to swap this with you if you like? I saw that you had The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd on your Read list and wondered if you would be happy to swap it? Selina x

  10. Hey no worries frankie! Hmmm The Midwife's Confession doesn't sound like the one, but it does sound interesting so it's been added to the To-Read list! haha!
  11. Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone could help me please. I was in Tesco the other day and was browsing the books, when I saw a book that interested me. I'm trying to find it again to add to my Goodreads, but I can't, for the life of me, remember what it was called. The only thing I can remember is that it said on the front "inspired by Call the Midwife" and I think mentioned something about being about the real nurses or nuns of Nonnatus House. Does anyone know the book I am describing? I've tried searching the Tesco site but can't find it! Thanks in advance, Selina
