  1. I started reading these books when I was a child, and I really love them! In France the serie is simply called Les Orphelins Baudelaire. I remember going to the library to read them again and again ^^. When I went to England last year, I found all the books at a very loooow price in a bookshop, so I bought them all.... My suitcase was heavy after that ^^. But I definitely recommend these books.
  2. I just read the book a few weeks ago with one of my best friends, and I really love it! Margaret is an amazing character, and I enjoyed the author's style. I'm even surprised, because I've never heard of Elizabeth Gaskell in class (I study English and English Literature), because she is extremely talented, and this novel is simply fantastic.
  3. Actually that's Gustave Flaubert. ^^ In France, this book is totally a classic, and every student works on it at least once! The story is extremely powerful: Emma can be seen simply as an unfaithful woman who can't stand her life because she always expects more, but Flaubert makes a criticism of the power of unrealistic, idealistic novels. Emma used to read romantic books when she was younger and thought her life would be the same as the characters of such books: she thought she would live all her life in passion, true and deep love. The whole book is about a woman who is extremely disappointed by life, and tries to find a meaning to it.

    Jules Verne

I discovered Jules Verne when I was in "collège" (from 11 to 14/15), we studied The Carpathian Castle, and I really liked it! The ghost stories, Jules Verne's style... Now I try to read one of his books from time to time, and I'm still fascinated by his style and imagination. He is a good story-teller, as soon as I open one of his novels, I know I won't be able to stop reading.
  6. Oh why? I love Germany, I live near it, and Germans are amazing Well I hope you enjoy it! Thank you so much I've worked really hard and I'm still working on improving it, so thank you!! Thank you
  7. Thank you I love your avatar!
  8. I first read the book when I was 15 or 16, and I really liked it. I was in a situation similar to Holden's, and this book quickly became one of my favorite novels! We studied it last year in class, and it was fascinating
  9. Hi and Thank you @Chesilbeach: I'm reading l'Oeuvre, by Emile Zola. And you?
  10. Hi everyone! My name is Angee, I am 21 and... I am from France! I don't know if they are other French people here ^^. I'm a student in English, my aim is to become a translator, and to translate books because (amazing transition ^^) I've always loved reading. I mostly read French and British classics, but I like discovering new writers, new books, new universes. I subscribed to many French websites about literature, but I really wanted to practice my English when I'm not in class, that's why I came here! I am also a huge fan of TV shows (The Big Bang Theory, Game Of Thrones, American Horror Story, Sherlock and many others), movies, and music (I mostly listen to bands with guitar players and weird haircuts). So I think that's it. If you have questions, I'm ready!
