The Hobbit or LoTR. Do they qualify as YA? I know I read both of them in my early teens.

I haven't seen the recent movie either, but the book is very good. The entire series is worth a read actually.

I no longer have a favourite humourous writer. I used love Adams but his humour has aged poorly and I no longer find it funny. I've never liked Pratchett or Anthony. Apart from Elton are there any others of note that I could try? For picture book style comic writer, that's easy: Alan Moore.

The last series I finished - a few months ago now - was the Fleming Bond books. When I went to add them on Goodreads I had to look at the summaries to remind myself which ones I liked. The only one I was certain of was The Spy That Loved Me, and that was because I thought it was atrocious. The old emotional impact memory recall trick =)

I only have time to finish (at most) 1 novel per month at the moment.

My preference is to read the series as one chunk. That way I don't forget the important information. Of course, with ASoIaF, Martin hasn't finished writing the series yet so there's going to be a wait eventually - unless you manage to stretch reading it over the course of the next 5-10 years =) skribe

Hi: I'm skribe. I mostly read science-fiction, although I also like the occasional fantastical piece or spy/crime thrillers. Stereotypical boy stuff, I suppose, but it keeps me busy =). I prefer genres that challenge me intellectually. I'm looking forward to chatting not just about the genre of ideas, but literature in general. There's so much available and so much to learn.
