classics.... I do remember a time when the classics appealed to me, a time when I had not read very many at all.. but now? i am finding it very hard to get into Persuasion for the discussion group here, even though I know I have read this a long long time ago.. I have caught myself wondering if watching the movie might have a better chance of holding my interest... :D

What about trying classic children's books for an easier "read"?

"Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell

"The Secret Garden" Frances Hodgson Burnett

"Swallows & Amazons" Arthur Ransom (well ...it's old enough!:D)

"The Wind in the Willows" Kenneth Grahame (a beautiful story)

"Treasure Island" R. L. Stevenson

Try asking your grandparents (or even your parents) what their favourite books were, as kids.
