lunababymoonchild
Great Expectations, Charles Dickens. Marvellous! Edited July 22 by lunababymoonchild
Hayley
I finished Slade House by David Mitchell as my first book for this challenge and I loved it! Very creepy and brilliantly written. It almost felt like a series of short stories, each one set in a different decade, though they're all connected to each other. Impressively, all of the characters still managed to feel real, well-developed and unique. I'd definitely recommend this one to fans of magical realism. Only part of which is 'why is Miss Havisham permanently wearing an old wedding dress?' . So, spoiler quotes for this bit, did you guess... Spoiler who Pips mysterious benefactor was going to be? lunababymoonchild
Sarah Pearse, The Wilds. ETA This is a GREAT book and well worth reading but it does touch on domestic abuse, to make clear to anyone should this be a trigger. The Cautious Traveler's Guide to the Wastelands - Sarah Brooksn (I really enjoyed this though I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea) Killing with Confetti - Peter Lovesey (As ever, a smooth enjoyable read) One Good Turn - Kate Atkinson, (Just as good second time round, especially as I'd forgotten the very last surprise. I think if the characters are well-written, and interesting, then they can be "enjoyed",but this lot were just pretty annoying!
lunababymoonchild
Ellery Queen, The Dutch Shoe Mystery. Interesting and now I know what they are like. Unlikely to read another one but entertaining enough for what it was.
lunababymoonchild
The Case of Lady Sannox, Arthur Conan Doyle. I’m not sure this qualifies since Sherlock Holmes wasn’t involved and there wasn’t a mystery per se but I’ll leave it here in case it does qualify

It’s not a mystery in genre but it does feature something/someone who is a mystery (without giving anything of the plot away…) Ive just started The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter by Rob Duncan. It features someone working as a private detective, who’s been given a case to find a missing person - but with a steampunk twist 😄.
