frankie Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 Yes, although rather peculiar too Would you venture to say particularly peculiar? What a particularly peculiar bunch of friends I have here It's quite peculiar how particular we all are Quote
frankie Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 (edited) Ohhhhh!! Chesil, I just saw you edit and add 'particularly' Edit: Hm, maybe you didn't. I'm seeing words that aren't there Edited September 28, 2013 by frankie Quote

frankie Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 It is pitiful how this particularly peculiar (or peculiarly particular ) day has to come to its end Quote
pontalba Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 But, it is, almost..........and all this peculiarity has me thinking I must precipitously visit the kitchen and find the particular bottle of peculiarly chocolate vodka in the freezer...... Quote
frankie Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Not in America it hasn't! I love the way you think But, it is, almost..........and all this peculiarity has me thinking I must precipitously visit the kitchen and find the particular bottle of peculiarly chocolate vodka in the freezer...... I have this feeling that the peculiarly chocolate vodka might be particularly delicious, even though it sounds very peculiar... Oh but it's morning, I must think of porridge instead! Quote
frankie Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 (edited) I just noticed that a person who I'm not too comfortable with has added me as their friend on Goodreads. (A person I know from real life) This is what's odd: usually when someone sends me a friend request, I can approve or disapprove. This time I only got a notification that this person has added you as a friend. Gee, thanks for the opportunity to decide for myself. I went to the settings but I couldn't find anything about reserving the option to approve/disapprove friend requests. Does anyone know where I ought to look? Edit: I was going through some other stuff and noticed this in the apps section: it said the app would include any goodreads person who was an FB friend of mine. So I wonder if 'I' accepted because I had that setting in the apps. Only I've never ever set it that way myself, so the site must've done it by itself. Which leads to another issue that's been annoying me about GR: when I go to the website and start logging in, it'll soon stop the process and it'll say I'm logging in via my FB account, please wait. I don't want that! And whenever I update my reading challenge on GR, it asks me if I want to publish it on my FB feed. No I should've done this investigating ages ago. I wonder how she'd react if I just removed her from my friends on GR ... Too bad she's only joined last month and has only 3 other friends, she'll easily notice if I've removed her. Hmph. poppyshake Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I thought you always got the opportunity to approve them?? .. that's odd. I only know how you can delete friends but I don't know if that helps you. They shouldn't let anyone automatically become your friend (it took me ages and I put a lot of effort in ) Hope you can sort it .. you don't want to see their horrible updates Quote
frankie Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 I thought you always got the opportunity to approve them?? .. that's odd. I know!! That's why I'm so peeved. I wouldn't have approved. Why would the site approve someone whom I wouldn't have approved myself. Usually the friend requests I get are from people I want to approve, this was a rare occasion, so it's like I've got bad karma or something because now the site approved of her by itself I only know how you can delete friends but I don't know if that helps you. They shouldn't let anyone automatically become your friend (it took me ages and I put a lot of effort in ) I know, you wouldn't give up at all, would you... You are too funny!! Hope you can sort it .. you don't want to see their horrible updates The thing is, I've already set my FB stuff in a way that I don't see her updates. They used to annoy me so much. I didn't have the heart to fully remove her, because we have a lot of mutual friends/pals. I'd completely forgotten about her, not having had to see her updates. I actually just went to see her FB page just to see if that was the case or if I'd removed her at some point. Nope, she was still there, and her updates were just as annoying as ever. If she's going to be an active updater on GR, I'm going to get rid of her. I won't stand it! Quote
pontalba Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 The delete button is your friend. Delete the witch....er, yes. Witch. The particularly peculiar thing about a chocolate martini is this. Combine vanilla vodka with Godiva chocolate liqueur. Add a bit of cream. and enjoy. Quote
frankie Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 The delete button is your friend. Delete the witch....er, yes. Witch. I'm sure she'd never understand why I did it It's not like she's done anything to me, it's just that she's very me-me-me and has a loud voice and will interrupt and talk over and turn every discussion to herself. That's one of my pet peeves. Luckily she got involved with someone who lives in another town and has now moved so I've not had to see her in a few years I'm so mean! Kylie Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Your thread is so entertaining, Frankie (just caught up with the past week). I *hate* how Goodreads has integrated Facebook so much that it's such a pain if you want to log in via email instead of FB. I use FB a lot, but I don't want it integrated with everything else in my life! BTW, have you seen my thread lately? I've added all of my book fair books. Quote
frankie Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 Your thread is so entertaining, Frankie (just caught up with the past week). Entertaining? I think the word is particularly peculiar I *hate* how Goodreads has integrated Facebook so much that it's such a pain if you want to log in via email instead of FB. I use FB a lot, but I don't want it integrated with everything else in my life! I *hate* it, too!! I use FB a lot, too, but my book life is MY book life, I don't want to share it on FB. No! It's too precious for that. You should do what I did. Go to 'edit profile', go to 'apps', and just disconnect that stupid FB! BTW, have you seen my thread lately? I've added all of my book fair books. I haven't, I'm so behind on reading logs again, and I've been watching too much of Criminal Minds For the last month I had to read too much on screen and I haven't felt like I'm ready for very detailed reading of threads on here yet. frankie Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 Have I ever told you guys that I love getting book packages? I got one in the mail today. A book swap with chaliepud! I got One Dog And His Boy by Eva Ibbotson and The Kindest Thing by Cath Staincliffe. I have a feeling I shall like both books! But this was not all... I also got this lovely, darling postcard, with a dog in the cover. Beautiful! And I got a hilarious bookmark, there was this golden retriever lying on the floor, a book between his paws, and he had glasses on, and looks like he's reading the book. It's a hologram bookmark, so when I turn it a bit this way and that, the dog's head is moving from left to right, like he's reading the book! So funny, and really beautiful, too! Thanks chalie, you know me really well And I hope you enjoy the book I sent you in turn I was talking to ex on FB, I told him about the package and how there was also the card and the bookmark. He said that our book club and the people on here are amazing! Which I of course had to agree with When I was still with him, I of course told him about everything in my life, and the BCF as well, but even after we split up I still sometimes tell him about stuff that's happening on here and the people. He's always commenting how great the place and the people are Sometimes I will run into a pal when I'm on my way to the post office to send a book package to a member or collect one, and when they ask what's up, I might say that I'm just sending/getting a book in the mail and they might ask further details, and everyone's always just so surprised that people who don't even know each other would send each other books. To foreign countries, at that! I love to be apart of this forum and the people Quote

Hmph. x I had the same thing, GoodReads automatically added my Facebook friends. You can disable this in the options somewhere, but by default it's enabled. I removed the GoodReads app from Facebook because it had added half my books as read/TBR but not the other half. This incompleteness bothered me so that I removed the app and then had to delete every book individually because Facebook works the way it does. x I *hate* how Goodreads has integrated Facebook so much that it's such a pain if you want to log in via email instead of FB. I use FB a lot, but I don't want it integrated with everything else in my life!x I agree. So many sites have Facebook integration, I prefer to keep all my accounts seperate. If everything's integrated into one thing, a stranger who gets in or has access to your data, could know so much about you. I'm not comfortable with that, so I prefer to keep everything seperate, no linking. x Have I ever told you guys that I love getting book packages? I got one in the mail today. frankie Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 It is delicious! And it would go straight to my hips.. But they always say, hips don't lie! I shouldn't go and buy it just yet, I've spent too much money on books in the last couple of weeks I should look if they have it at the library... That's just stupid, that it happened automatically! Quote
