  1. I read a lot of short stories which are great for a relatively quick single-sit reading, but for a full-length novel, I tend to prefer 'savouring' it and taking my time with it.
  2. I tend to set out with specific authors or titles in mind before buying anything, although of course will often succumb to an impulse purchase! If it's cheap and second hand then I'm more likely to pick it up without knowing anything about it - otherwise I may make a note of the title (I often carry a pen and scraps of paper just in case!) and then research on the Internet about it, reviews and such, before choosing to buy it. The aforementioned Fopp was very good, unfortunately it closed down here a while back, but we have two Waterstones and plenty of charity shops.
  3. I love Dennis Wheatley's supernatural/black magic books - actually The Haunting of Toby Jugg is one that I haven't read, so I appreciate the review! But if the original poster still wishes to read more works by him, I would recommened The Satanist, To The Devil a Daughter, The Devil Rides Out and Strange Conflict in particular. It comes as no surprise to see that there is a racist element to The Haunting of Toby Jugg - this is something which often crops up in Wheatley's supernatural/black magic fiction. His view of the world comes across rather blatantly in the way that the 'bad guys' are almost always non-white and left-wing, and he suggests a link between devil worship and communism, that kind of thing! But if the reader can ignore that and try not to roll their eyes at certain sentences, he is able to write some imaginative stuff IMO!
  4. Allo! I'm 33, from the South East of England, and my taste in literature is relatively varied, although my passion tends to be towards older horror fiction - H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, M.R. James, Bram Stoker, Dennis Wheatley's black magic novels, Arthur Machen and the like. I also read some non-fiction, including biographies and autobiographies of people who interest me on some level - ranging from Grigori Rasputin to Vic Reeves!
