  1. Hello!

    How have you been?

I barely recognised you with a new name!

    :)

    Hope all is well.

  2. In my English Lit/Lang A Level we had to study 'A Thousand Acres' by Jane Smiley which is a family saga. I don't know if it's as in depth/'generation-spanning' as you would like but it's an idea nonetheless! Hope it helps.
  3. It's such a good book though! I couldn't put it down!
  4. I have been reading Going Postal on the train and got a few books from Books etc for cheap! Terry Pratchett - The Truth Terry Pratchett - Night Watch Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs - The New Discworld Companion Terry Pratchett (comp. by Stephen Briggs) - The Wit and Wisdom of Discworld The last book is amazing to just dive into randomly if you want something to cheer you up! It's full of the best quotes from all the Discworld novels! Perfect for a Discworld lover like myself!
  5. Anyone in London, theres a Books etc. in Victoria Station, on the strip of shops just before you go outside and end up facing Colonnade Walk (or whatever it is called) and they are having a closing down sale with discount on almost everything. Most stuff is 10% off but there are some things that are 50% and certain things may be more but I couldn't say for sure about that. Got myself a stack of Terry Pratchetts earlier and felt everyone should know!
  6. Im just about to shoot off but before I do, I recommend applying for a job at Debenhams restaurant in Westfield if you want something for a bit of money, they definitely want people there. No good if your looking for something career-wise though! :)

I may try and get down to the 'HitchCon' if I can but can't promise anything. Theres far too much going on in London I want to try and get myself down to!

Enjoy your evening and I'm sure we will speak soon :)

  7. Basically everything I would say too. I've only recently read Hitchhikers Guide and since, I have been recommending it to absolutely everyone I know! I am yet to read the 3rd book onwards but can't wait!
  8. Ah, I'd love to have a read of your novel whenever I get a chance!

The move went much better than I could have hoped, despite the letting agents being... well, stereotypical letting agents I guess!

Uni is going really well and I am enjoying the course so far!

Catch up at some point would be great and the flat we managed to get is in shepherds bush so I am really close to the center of London!

And I understand how hell job hunting is, I have a job I despise and am at the point where I feel really down when I know I have to go in so I am probably going to leave this side of the weekend. I spent all day yesterday forcing CV's on people and basically begging for jobs. Hopefully some good will come of it!

  9. Hello!

How have you been? I haven't used the forum in absolutely ages as I've just moved up to London and haven't had the internet.

    Hope your well.

    :)

  10. yes i do, has it been requested? sorry ive not replied sooner. i havent been on the forums recently, just moved up to london and only just got internet! :)

  11. I read the original scroll a while ago and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Made me want to get off my arse and live my life while I am young and live for now!
  12. As I have so many Pratchetts TBR, I intend to punctuate the other books I read with a Pratchett or two!
  13. Out of the books I already have waiting to be read there must be about 35 - 45, however, there are countless books I see in shops or reviews on the net and think "Right, add that to the metaphorical TBR pile in my brain!"
  14. i loved reading these books even though I am abit 'old' for them. I borrowed them from a friend when I read them but intend to get the series for my collection and also want to try Robert Muchmores latest series Hendersons Boys. Anyone read any of the new series and have any opinions?

    Hello

    hullo welcome to the forums!
  16. Although I have read the first book before, I have just started it again. Got a copy of Tales from the Perilous Realm yesterday too! Looks pretty good. Mainly got it for the Adventures of Tom Bombadil! Paid
  17. This is the first I have heard of this and it excites me greatly
  18. I find it strange that you found this to be the case as when I read the first of the trilogy and came across Tom Bombadil, I felt that I wanted to know more about him and for him to have maybe a larger part in the book! Curious indeed. What are other peoples favourite minor characters in Tolkiens work?
  19. It is down Albert Road, Southsea. It has been around for approx. 15 years I believe. I am not aware of many in Fratton, although I do live there. Off the top of my head I can't think of even one in Fratton atm. There used to be a Sussex Book Stores (I believe that is the name of it) in town which I used alot as they do new releases at a very good price, however it closed down a few months ago. If you could give me some names, I would be able to find out if they are still knocking about. And Bookjumper, I really wouldn't come to Portsmouth. It's horrible here! As much as I know I will be sad to see the back of it when I move, I will be glad to be elsewhere. The Night Owls Bookstore I mentioned will give you there email address and if there is a list of books you are after, you just send it to them and they will gradually try and get hold of them all for you out of their masses and masses of stock and send them to you wherever you are. They do charge minimal postage, but don't charge you until you receive your books!
  20. The majority of my books are second hand and I buy an awful lot of them. I do from time to time buy brand new books, especially if it is a new release of a series I am into but I dont see much point in spending a lot of money I cant actually afford as a poor student when I could spend the same amount as I would on one new book and get a few I will really enjoy!
  21. Roal Dahl has got to be the one that sticks out to me. The Twits was one of my favourites! I really should get a copy of the Dahl collection! I also remember a book about a Caterpiller called Omnibombulator which I loved! I think it might even be somewhere at my mum and dads house!
  22. I am almost at the end of The Hobbit but can't wait to open LOTR. Although I have already read the first book of the trilogy, I plan to re-read it just so I am sure of little bits I will probably miss if I just read a synopsis to remind myself. You know you are getting a bit too obsessed with LOTR when you are chatting to friends on the net and say "BRB, just popping to Middle Earth"
  23. Haha! I'm sure I wont need to do that but yeah! Where abouts in London are you?

I am going to TVU in Ealing and yesterday I made an offer on a lovely flat in Ealing :D

It's going to get me in serious debt but meh.

    :D
