  1. This is too difficult (and I'll probably change my mind again as soon as I hit post!)

The Virgin Suicides - Sofia Copolla

Lost in Translation - Sofia Copolla

The Darjeeling Limited - Wes Anderson

The Grand Budapest Hotel - Wes Anderson

    Slumdog Millionaire - Danny Boyle

    Fight Club - David Fincher

    Harry Potter (Series)

    Lord of the Rings (Trilogy)

Silver Linings Playbook - David O. Russell

The Color Purple - Steven Spielberg

  2. I use public transport to get about. We've got really good transport links up in Newcastle so I've never really needed to drive although I have started to learn (on and off! )

However, the bus company I use have created names for their services and the service I use is called the Fab 56 :D It's the most camp bus in the fleet and t cheers me up in the morning which probably says a lot about me :D

  3. Normally I'm a non fiction reader, as in "Primitive cooking in Neolithic Britian" type of book.

Haa! I know how you feel. I'm currently re-reading Social Innovation and Territorial Development just for fun.....yes I'm a complete loser!

I've not heard of this series Tenne and I've read a fair bit of vampire fiction. I've recently made a start on Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series and also the JR Ward Vampire series. They're both ok.

How many books are in the series so far? Any good?

  4.

When I have read a series of books, I tend to skim-read them the second or third time, cutting to the interesting parts or bits I want to read.

Me too. I've also re-read Harry Potter, Sookie Stackhouse and the Vampire Diaries quite a few times. I think I've re-read Dead to the World by charlaine Harris about 10 times! Its my 'pick me up' book when I need cheering up :D

  5. I love Jane Austen but this quote does crack me up:

Jane Austen, according to Mark Twain (1898)

I haven't any right to criticize books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read 'Pride and Prejudice,' I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin-bone.

This was my favourite too :D

Thanks Abby! I've had myself a good little chuckle :D

  6. finished Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk. Liked it! Crazy story, like the rest of his books. haha Now I must figure out what to read next..

Oh! I loved this book Whitegold :D A bit odd, but really interesting. I loved all the old movie trivia he threw in too.

I'm reading Dark Lover by J.R Ward and it seems to be recovering my lost mojo for me. I've also read a few chapters of Once by James Herbert which was recommended by a friend. It's pretty good so far and I'm looking forward to getting a few more chapters read....it seems like my kind of story.

Unfortunately, I've given up on American Psycho and have filed it away for another day. I wasn't a fan of the over descriptive narration which I think is probably one of the quirks of the book.

  7. My mojo is all over the place at the minute. I tried to start American Psycho again but it just isn't happening. So now I'm reading an academic book called Disadvantaged by Where You Live?, which is about how the notion of community and neighbourhood has been used in urban planning policy in the UK. My mojo seems happy to absorb the words so I'm just running with it.

    Zzzzzzzzz :Zzzz:

  8. I finished Wicked this morning, I really enjoyed it too, this afternoon I returned it to the library then went home and started The Big Over Easy I've got a feeling I'm going to love this book and it's humour. :)

Ooooh I've fancied Wicked for ages! Think I'll bump it up the to buy list.

Well I've had quite a bit going on at home recently so haven't had much time for reading unfortunately. I'm still about a chapter into American Psycho so I plan to pick it back up and continue tonight.

    Hope everyone's grand :D

  9. I may have just created the world's littlest Pratchett fan! After his bath, I decided to read "Where's My Cow?" to Xan. He loved it so much he immediately shouted "Again! Again!"

Awww that's so canny Kell :D

Finished Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. Absolutely loved it! :D

This is probably my favourite book of all time Whitegold. I'm glad you enjoyed it :D I'm not sure what my favourite short story is though....probably Mr Whittakers. It had the surprise factor!

I recommended it to a friend recently and he recommended American Psycho to me (which is his favourite book) so that's what I'm reading now. He's enjoying Haunted :D

  10. I have to say Matt's looks only half come into it - it's his portrayal of the doctor I find so endearing, I love how quirky he is.

I love how quirky he is too.

I used to watch Doctor Who as a kid in the 80's but can't really remember much about it. I started watching it again when it came back with Christopher Eccleston and enjoyed his portrayal of the Doctor. However, I really couldn't get away with David Tennant. I'm not sure why :D so I stopped watching.

I love Matt Smith though and have been hooked to this past series. Can't wait for the next :D

  11. Oh god, don't say that!! :D I'm not sure about storylines, I guess I hope

    Sookie and Eric stay together

, and also that there's a bit more action in the next one.

Me too.....I hope they do. I suppose now that

Bill's got his 'Sister', he won't be needing Sookie. Sam has that crazy werewolf and I don't think Alcide isn't in the picture anymore

    so here's hoping eh ;)

I'd also love a bit more action!

  12. Well......as some of you might know, I'm taking in a lodger when my BF moves away to help with the bills and unfortunately the only bookcase in the house was in the spare room and too big to put anywhere else. I bought a slim set of shelves from Ikea to put in my bedroom but they're not really big so I was set to pack up most of my books and send them off to my Mam's house. Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper!

Anyway, I came home from work one day to find that my BF had dismantled the dining table and bought three new sets of shelves from ikea that make a nice corner mini-library area. How lovely is that! So now.....

The first set of shelves in the living room holds my YA fiction, vampire fiction, sleezy fiction (like chuck palahniuk, Irvine Welsh, etc), big books like Encyclopedias and uni related text books.

The second set holds my classics, historical fiction, crime and some non-fiction (mainly about the Tudors)

The third set holds a mixture of fiction, non-fiction, dvds and photos.

In the bedroom I've got a random mix of books that don't have any order and the set in the spare room are empty but are soon to be filled by Phil (new lodger) who loves to read too :D

I've only ever had one set of shelves and a sort of display cabinet shelf thingymebob so I keep changing it around and reorganising. It's like Christmas! :D

  13. I've read it too, I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the others, but it was great to read something new.

Me too. I hope they start to introduce new characters too Chesilbeach.

    I really liked

Sookie getting to know Hunter a little better

and would like to read more of that but I wasn't to keen on the ending.

The fairytale kiss to remove Dermot's spell and three-fairies-in-a-bed made me cringe!

    :D

I'm looking forward to finding out what will happen with

    Victor

and think that this book was maybe a filler in between all the action of the last book and (hopefully) all the

action that could happen with Victor

    .

Does anyone have any theories about possible storylines?

Here's to another year of waiting! :D

  14. My Grandad never used to read a lot himself, but he made sure that me and my Sister were quick to learn basic skills like learning how to tell the time, learning the alphabet, learning to write our names, drawing and things like that, so he was the one who would sit with us while we read. I think it used to make him proud :D

  15. Sharky Carlyle. Probably wouldn't be so bad if I were a bloke.:D

I chose my goldfishes name because it was better than the dogs - Mutley :D

:lol: This has totally tickled me! You sound dangerous!

My name would be Buttons Mayfair. It's sooooo much better than Nicola Johnson that I'm thinking of changing it legally :D How much fun would you have with a name like that!

Sounds like a 1950s stripper.....I'm imagining feathered fans for some reason :D

  16. The books are very different to the show. There's not as much action and they're not as entertaining as the show, although, in my opinion, the latter books are a lot better than the earlier ones.

I agree. Books 1-4 weren't too great but I needed to know what happened so I bought books 5-6 and they were great. If you're a fan of Damon you need to read these books! :D

    I pre-ordered book 7 but they changed the release date from 1st July 2010 to 3rd March 2011. :D

  17.

Could this World Cup get any more boring? I think the only game I've enjoyed so far was watching the French get beaten by Mexico.

Thus far, I have managed to avoid the world cup completely which is probably really unpatriotic of me. However, I have heard that it's been pretty boring too. My BF isn't a happy bunny! :D
